It honestly gets a worse rap than it deserves. It's a very solid game and there were clearly attempts made to marry it into Fallout canon, as well as maintain many of the series' core design principles. Quests in F3 have a lot of choices and options.
It's because of hbaldingguy's video on it. Funny that he made that video about plagiarism because his anti-Fallout 3 video took all its points from an old 4chan post which eviscerated Fallout 3. And while yeah Fallout 3 has a bunch of flaws it at least still captures the look, feel and grit of the original Fallouts. It's the first Fallout I played to completion and while I don't like it as much as I did back in the day, the only real problem I have with it nowaday is that it's an old game so just like New Vegas I have to install half a dozen stability mods just to get it run decently on my current machine. But that's not really much of a problem, takes only 30 minutes max to set it all up and afterwards it plays fine. I haven't replayed Fallout 3 recently but I did New Vegas and with the stability mods I had a grand total of 0 crashes.
Yeah, don't get me wrong, I don't think any of the factions are good or endings are good. But the one time I finished the game, it just felt right to go with my son and the group with the technology that seemingly wanted little/nothing to due with a Wasteland I just woke up in from living in the pre-war.
Speaking of which, I hear that destroying the institute is canon because the Prydwin shows up in the TV show. I should really have a sperg out at Bethesda for hating Fallout 4 so much that they retconned my choice.

I side with the Institute because A) Boston doesn't need anymore nuclear craters, B) I want to keep the classical music station online, and C) they're clearly the only faction that would have toilet paper.

I have heard it's not the Prydwyn, which I tend to believe because the "broad strokes canon" of Tactics was probably meant solely to allow for airships, and in that game they all crashed. It stands to reason they have more than one.

Wasn't the Prydwyn stated at one point to be more advanced than all previous airships built by the Brotherhood? Unless they built another one and gave it to the Western Brotherhood for some reason.

Probably. It was definitely built in the East, since they scrapped lots of Rivet City to make it. I guess we'll find out next season, assuming everyone keeps hate-watching it.
It really is impressive how they never learned from this. View attachment 5931152
Even did it with my bare hands like I did the Deathclaw for emphasis.
It's only really been the hot thing to do to hate 3 specifically after Hbomb made his video full of stolen takes about it. Fallout 3 was widely acclaimed when it came out with only a few super grognards seething about it back in the day.
I always got the impression Lanius' reputation was mostly the byproduct of an intentional misinformation campaign. You hear contradictory stories about him, never see him yourself, and when you finally do he is an imposing figure but relatively easily killed, and the man beneath the mask doesn't match the story about his face being burnt. He is a figurehead, a big scary monster for The Legion to use to intimidate their enemies, but funnily enough not quite as stupid and violent as Caesar leads you to believe.
Eeeeh, I would argue they are both about the same levels of shit, but Fallout 4 can be more fun with a good suite of mods. Outer Worlds suffers because the central conflict is very Marxist, shallow, and incredibly boring. Fallout 4
It's made pretty clear that losing the dam would likely cause a domino effect that would upend large parts of the NCR system. Even House banks on it, directing ire for losing the dam back to Kimball to cause internal strife while he tightens his grip over Vegas. It probably won't lead to a total collapse of the nation but it won't do them any favors.
Down the last episode of the Slopout show. It's... Y'know, it's much like a Marvel movie. It passes the time. It's tropetastic and entirely predictable, which is the case for much of today's entertainment, but I can not say that it isn't in line with Bethesda Fallout, to be completely honest. The writing could be read as meta at some points too. Lucy is on a few quests at once, therefore she's got objectives. One of them is repopulate the Earth. "Wanna have sex?" Haha, failed Charisma check. It IS terrible, but it is consistent with the source material and the general tone.
It's Emil and Todd to the core, to be completely honest. Fallout 3 was tropetastic as well. You left the Vault to be either JEEEESUUUS or a fucking kitty strangling irredeemable bastard with no in between. Y'know, I'm surprised how little games that implement a morality system actually do it right.
True Crime: Streets of NYC let you shoot people non-lethally. I know, but, well, videogames. Then you could arrest them. These shots were often an absolute bitch to make. This was a third person shooter with no shoulder swap. Enemy damage was generally pretty damn high, and even though the protagonist is a lot faster than the enemies, he isn't infinitely tough. The game's generous with it's health drops, but there was still a very palpable feeling of risk in almost every shootout you were into. Cops risk their lives daily to apprehend evil motherfuckers, yadda yadda.
Or... You could just shoot them in the face with a very large caliber gun. This was super easy to do. Marcus IS much faster than anyone else, and has access to borderline infinite bullet time, so popping everyone you meet is easy as hell if you don't care about procedure. In fact, you'd get a lot more done a lot faster. The feeling of risk was gone and you were just a one man army tearing through street level criminals that just didn't live up to the level of power you were working with.
The reward for being evil in this game is pretty much unlimited power. Nothing could hurt you if you had the character just stop holding back.
In Fallout 3, an Evil playthrough has you being mustache-twirling evil for no fucking reason. Blow up one of the few standing cities in a Wasteland for like 1000 caps, sure, yeah, I'll do it. Shit won't even buy me a unique weapon but you had me at "Blow shit up." Jesus Lone and Bastard Lone are pretty much a mass murderer regardless as there's absolutely no shortage of murderous mutants and raiders in the wasteland. In fact Jesus Lone will very likely enslave people to do the Paradise Falls quest, THEN free them after the fact, so he's a little schizo on top of everything else. Bastard Lone is played as a teenager lashing out against the world at many points, coming pretty close to having a "Fuck you, dad" moment when he says he's disappointed.
In reality there's pretty much no reason to go around the Wasteland being a bastard. There's almost no reward in it. Sure, it's handy to come out of the Vault being evil to grab Jericho and get carried through a few of the initial fights, but in the long term it's just about roleplay. Oooh, I've got clover, edgy sex slave follower, she's packing a sawn off shotgun and her DPS is literally worse than just punching shit barehanded. What's the Good Follower, you say? Oh an invincible super mutant tank with a gatling laser that can melt shit in two seconds? Redemption story time it is!
Even if you were going solo, Evil Karma simply has no rewards and almost always comes off as Bastard Lone actively going out of his way to cheat, lie and murder for kicks. It was meant to be this corrupted Errant Knight who is just fucking done with the world and wanders it not to right wrongs but to dole out punishment, and teach a few lessons in cynicism to those who will listen. Instead it comes off like a cynical fuckhead who's out to stomp people while they are down because he's got cartloads of daddy issues and was kicked out of his vault, even if it offers no benefit to him. Coop's a lot like this in the show. The three leads are fucking woeful but I think Coop might be the worst written one. The dude repeatedly eats everyone's lunch just to prove how much of an asshole he is. Sometimes he pays for it, though! The one good thing about Coop is he's used to showcase gameplay. He's high level, a crit build, and admittedly takes a lot of drugs before combat, so it makes sense that he's blowing chunks out of people and tanking bullets with minimal issue.
The rest is just pure Bastard Lone. It makes absolutely no sense for this guy to be as much of a gigantic dickhead as he is and he would indeed catch a lot more flies with honey, specially when he's nigh unstoppable to begin with. But ohhh, he's hurt because his wife and daughter or whatever. Also discriminated against because he's a ghoul. Yes, got it, sympathetic excuse again. Doesn't really justify how much of a psychopathic retard he is. A guy this powerful shouldn't be this much of a dick. There's no need for it and there's no prize in it. Dumbass killed a ghoul as he was turning and had Lucy mutilate him into ass jerky when not three hours ago they could have killed a Gulper and cooked it. And if we're drinking irradiated water, we might as well drink it straight outta the lake and we'll deal with the rads later rather than out of a puddle. I don't know if it's intended to be like "Oh his Survival score is just really low" or bad writing, but I feel it's the latter.
I think the 3 leads of Slopout represent the karma system. Maximus is Neutral, mostly self centered, just wants a home, and realizes that he needs power to make this happen. Therefore he keeps the armor and so. Discount Zooey Deschanel is Good and therefore wants to go around hugging people and giving them free puppies. Coop is Evil, but, y'know, in that Hollywood sense of "He used to be a good person, you guys." He's just dejected after hundreds of years alive in what is now implied to be the chronic pain that comes with being a Ghoul. He's gone hungry, thirsty, and he's just done with that shit and is gonna take what he wants when he wants it.
The writing is very no fuss no muss. Just an extremely basic story about, I was gonna say one Knight Errant, but really, they're three. They're all Fallout Protagonists of different Karma allignments. So you get to see three playthroughs in one go. But obviously, this is about the budget and putting on screen what was in the games. As an adaptation, it's fucking terrible. Obviously it has the problem of being absolutely unable to live up to how nuanced and complex the writing was in 2 and New Vegas.
It's plain to see that NV is gonna be the series' legacy in the end: Just fucking mention New Vegas on an online board and some dudes will absolutely go into a 4 page debate over who the best faction is, why, who would win, why Based House is the best option in the long term, but NCR's bread for today, but also Caesar at least would bring the most unlawful elements of the Wasteland to heel, and like, "Just think of Caesar in the Capital Wasteland, dude. He'd fucking nail all those retarded Raiders to a cross and shit would be peaceful in a few months, if that!" That's the strength of New Vegas. It's writing and world building is 300 layers deep. There's no optimal answer to pretty much anything. You can talk about it for days, and probably never reach a satisfying conclusion. I think there's the general consensus that with crazy minmaxing and some headcanon a Yes-Man ending where everyone is allied to the Courier would likely be the best outcome, but even that is arguable.
I don't think the Mojave BoS would take it laying down, but I suppose if you upgrade the Securitron Army, are on good terms with the NCR, wipe out the legion at Hoover Dam, and ally yourself with the Followers of the apocalypse, the Kings, the Boomers and so on, while being a Mojave Brotherhood Paladin, it should work out fine. But it takes a bit of headcanon as well. Of course the Mojave brotherhood wouldn't be okay with you using your tech, or specially Old World Blues tech to make the world a better place, so the optimal thing to do might be just taking them out. Not that it'd be a problem if you had the Securitron Army, of course, but... Yeah. Specially if you kept the Sharecroppers afloat, you're sitting on a lot of power, housing, food, peacekeeping, basically all the things you need to make a nation. But Courier can be as much of a puppy-hugger as you want, so no uncomfortable implications of corruption, brutality, tyranny, etcetera.
Meanwhile Fallout 3, 4, and Slopout have this "Hollywood" writing to them. It's clear who the good guys are, who the bad guys are, who you should root for, and it's very clearly a "Good vs Evil" conflict rather than a really complex political struggle. Fallout 3? Lyons' BoS good, Outcasts and Enclave bad. Fallout 4? Railroad puppy hugging idiots good, Institute pragmatic progress-at-any-cost bad that could ultimately lead to some good, Maxson's BoS WACKY METAL NAZIS WITH A WARRIOR MONK CREED neutral who will ultimately do more harm than good, Minutemen realistic, if a little bordering on the superheroic when they get their shit together good.
In any case there's clearly defined good and bad endings. Fallout 3 BoS good, Eden spike the water with FEV bad. Fallout 4 Minutemen and Railroad good, BoS and Institute bad in that more harm than good way bad. New Vegas didn't have this, and it was all the more memorable for it. Most of the bad shit in New Vegas is the fact that there's a lot of Fetch Quest bullshit to pad out gametime, because if it was just the main missions of each faction you'd be done in 45 minutes.
No wonder Bethesda hates the Obsidian Fallouts and would much rather just write their stories in a barren wasteland. You can write a lot of Marvel Errant Knight shit in a wasteland, it's easy. You just come up with some quirky quests, some serious quests, have most of the choices be moral choices, and have your characters be either a self serving prick (Evil Beth Fallout Protag), an all loving hero (Good Beth Fallout Protag), or only in it for the money (Neutral Beth Fallout Protag) and there you go. New Vegas was written by people with talent. It's also much harder to get into, both the story and the gameplay. Most grugs I know that played it to completion just went "Durr NCR soldiers so soldiers good!" and went for that. I guess that is an option, and not to get all "Ackshually Richard & Mortimer requires a high IQ to..." but New Vegas is, for lack of a better term, nerdy as fuck, and it requires some levels in the hidden skill "Autism" to properly enjoy, while F3, 4, and Slopout, are much more accessible to your average normie.

I may be one of the few FNV fanboys who genuinely enjoyed Fallout 3. Every other FNV fanboy I've seen on Youtube can't stop hating FO3 and usually compare it negatively to FNV.
To me, they're both fun games that let me fight enemy armies through a post-apocalyptic hellhole and nuke entire cities. I blew up Megaton in FO3, and I nuked both sides in FNV before I killed Benny.
Watching Creetosis' vids was like driving a spike through my head. His criticisms seemed less objective and more based on personal opinion, but he's too blind to see it.
Never get the transgender obsession with fallout new Vegas is objectively the least progressive of all of the games all of the factions besides the NCR are right wing and the NCR is insanely corrupt
For the weed launch of the fallout series fallout 3 is actually pretty good people who hate on it obsessively don't even understand that game design work is it perfect absolutely not for what it is is a pretty good yes
Tag skills aren't really important beyond your main method of attacking, which was just unarmed for me. I haven't even used Speech or Science very much. In fact, science is one of the worst things you can tag. I just forgot after so long.
