Fallout series

The shitty part about the BoS is that they made them goofy do-gooders in FO3 and to a lesser extent 4. Outside of that it actually makes sense that they'd have a (minor) presence in The Capital Wasteland for research swiping, New Vegas for keeping an eye on Mr. House and HELIOS One, and Massachusetts to control/loot the Institute.

I disagree somewhat.

FO3 made it clear Lyon's Brotherhood chapter was an anomaly, and by FO4 they reverted greatly back to their original roots, with some of Lyon's ideas (like recruiting capable Wastelanders) retained out of a need for practicality (it prevented the Mojave chapter's dwindling numbers issue from being so dire).

They were also more like they were in Fallout 2 in FO4, given they were allied with the wastelanders generally to take down a mutual foe, but outside that had their own specifics goals and prejudices.

But is Charlottesville going to be in that area?
Depends where they "center" the map and how they do the scaling of real life distance to in-game distance. I remember in F3, there was roughly a 1:3 scale for in-game to real life distances, can't remember what it was for NV and 4. Even with a very generous scaling and centering of the map, I doubt they would have it stretch that far into Virginia proper because at that point the game map would start to have some overlap with the periphery of the F3 Capital Wasteland map.

how is it that 76 is a prequel but has a world that looks better off than 3's or 4's

Because West Virginia was an oversight by the Chinese who wanted to target the Capitol Wasteland area instead.
then why would anyone stay in the capital wasteland when west virginia is so well off and very nearby

maybe they'll explain that though

The war was expected but when the bombs fell it was very sudden, listen to the Keller Family Holotapes for more, it's pretty harrowing how a dysfunctional family were just few of millions who couldn't make it or make it altogether.

West Virginia is hard to get to on foot due to the mountainous terrain of the Appalachian range, and especially so if all the important bridges/tunnels/highways were rendered impassable by the bombs. In the pre-industrial era, the Shenandoah Valley was notoriously well isolated from the rest of Virginia since the terrain was so rough and the passes through the mountains were few and far between.

I can give you some reasons I guess. WV is only two hours away from DC (traffic) but if there was an apocalypse then the people in the DC metro area would try to head to the mountains....Appalachia.

They could easily do this, as the C&O canal runs along the Potomac river and it is a groomed trail. You are looking at about 120 miles to Hancock, Maryland and there is a railroad that runs from DC west then turns towards Chicago.

One thing though is that the people of WV are armed, so I imagine they will put checkpoints out and turn people away.

Can't feed six million people.

The A.T. runs through Shenandoah Valley (SNP), and it's about 105 miles of groomed trail. So you can move through there easily.

Don't mind the black bears, or the deer on the trail ;)

Probably everyone that tried making a break for it got horribly murdered by deathclaws and other wasteland creatures. Also I imagine scavenging DC was a pretty good way to live before the super mutant epidemic hit its peak.

The Brotherhood in 3 were just following Lyons who became an idealist in his old age after passing through enough of the wasteland to turn him into one. You still had the Outcasts for all the wastelander contempt and superiority rather the passive dismissal the Brotherhood in 3 had. It makes sense for the Brotherhood to at least casually help out the wastelanders since they need them to replace losses and more importantly trade since we never see the Brotherhood run a farm. Not to mention the NCR Brotherhood war shows what happens if they don't try to get along with other people. Even in Fallout 1 the canon ending is the one where the Brotherhood defends the major settlements from the Master's army.

Daily reminder that the very guy they have in charge of the lore says "lol fuck the lore".

I don't really care at this point how much they fuck it up anymore because it can't be fixed at this point. 1, 2, NV and Tactics to some extent will remain enough for me to be content.

I'm just so excited to see a Fallout game set in Appalachia. My father is from West Virginia, oddly enough.

So, I am definitely getting Fallout 76. Let's just hope Bethesda doesn't fuck it up too much.

On a lore note:

Myron is one of the most ear-rape characters of any Fallout "scum" to date and they sent him off in a cheap way rather than not worry about catering to lore-speds and leaving his fate open-ended. That's a lame ass origin story.

I'll wait for a group of regulators to haul me off to their interrogation cell.
