Fallout series

Obviously the Japanese influences are apparent in that armor, but he seems to be saying the Praetorian's armor is directly based off that of the Blades when... it isn't. Random sawblades aside, its surprisingly faithful to Rome, certainly moreso than the Legion in NV itself. And that still doesn't change the fact the torso and arm protection on the Blades apparel is right out of Rome itself.
i was just kinda pointing more to the asset in the game itself, and how to me it looks like a minor editing of the blades armour from oblivion.

Hell, just make a VR pod like the ones in Vault 112 and Operation Anchorage and have the sole purpose be to give the player a bunch of video game simulations to play. Easy peasy.

Edit: Good fucking lord the solid goddamn cringe.

Fascism bad! Blatant fetish shit good!

Honestly, Enclave really isn't fascist more than they are generic authoritarians obsessed with genetic purity.

Legion would fit that bit far more given the fact they have a full blown Roman LARP going on and an obsession with wiping out degenerates and loathing the Democratic Process, and you can still fucking join them.

Besides, you already know the people who put that dumb line in are the very same people who share this meme unironically right after going on a 3000 paragraph rant about how Fallout conforms to all their left wing talking points:

I mean, the Legion acts like you're practically subhuman if you manage to convince them you need chems to manage a congenital heart defect. They hate anything they deem a weakness.
They also hated fags, at least according to the male prostitute in West Side. Caesar wanted everyone breeding so he declared homosexuality a capital crime punishable by death.
I'm fairly sure the Legion would absolutely despise trannies, likely seeing them as mentally ill degenerates who sterilize themselves and reduce their utility to the state.
They're actual fascists and closer to nazis than a lot of Legion fans would care to admit.

All the Frontier devs did was take the Nazis from Wolfenstein and shove them in Enclave armor, often literally.

To be fair, that's not far from what Black Isle did. Fallout 2 had the Enclave create intelligent deathclaws, have a giant boss in power armor wielding a chaingun, and were designing a virus to wipe out all life they deemed biologically inferior. That's about as insane as Wolfenstein nazis could be!

The difference is that Black Isle never allowed you to join the Enclave because they would shoot you on sight. Not even a character with Intelligence 1 would be stupid enough to do that.

The talking Deathclaws actually made a bit of sense tho. The deathclaws were originally an experiment by the US Army to create disposable weapons for the war with China. The Enclave already had big stacks of research data pertaining to the Deathclaws from their excursions into the mainland to raid military bases. Makes sense to continue the project.
Problem was the FEV had already infected them, making them far more adaptable at a genetic level. This caused the Enclave's experiments to massively overshoot their goal of trainable deathclaws and landed them right in "Oh fuck, they're smart enough to disagree with us!" territory. Then they decided that intelligence could not be allowed to spread to more deathclaw packs and sent in Horrigan to gun them down.

The power armored boss wielding a chaingun also made sense. Enclave heavy infantry already wear power armor and carry Vindicator Miniguns. Horrigan was just a bigger, mutated Enclave heavy infantry soldier that the Enclave kept around because he was brainlessly loyal to them and very, very dumb. And yes, I know his INT was set at 10, all his stats were for gameplay purposes. Lorewise he was stated to be a spectacular dumbass. The only reasons he wasn't yeeted was, initially, his value researching the FEV, and later the fact that he still seemed to be fanatically devoted to the Enclave and literally being a walking weapon of mass destruction.

The virus designed to wipe out all life was also understandable, if horrible. The consequences of the FEV and radiation exposure to the human genome are unknown, unknowable, and potentially dangerous. For all we know the poor bastards in Fallout have a 10,000% higher rate of cancer than we do. Not something you want to leave to your kids. Problem is it's harder to make people kill out of mercy than out of hatred, so the Enclave used propaganda to ensure everyone within the Enclave viewed anyone outside of it as a dangerous, degenerated mutant who's existence threatens the future of mankind.

And no amount of "It kinda makes sense" fixes the fact that it's uninspired plaguarism, they literally stole whole plotpoints and writing directly from Wolfenstein.
Why even drag out the corpse of the Enclave in what is supposed to be a prequel story to the war between the NCR and Legion? It's either because of Bethesdaism (It's Fallout so it goes in!), Memberberries, or because they really wanted to hamfist in MUH FASCISM BAD without pissing off Legion players.

It's worth noting that it was the latest iteration of Don't Ask Don't Tell, only this time punishable by death. They still rampantly practiced buggering eachother, just not out in the open. I don't think Caesar actually gave a fuck about the homosexuality itself, but he was devoted to upholding his image, and going back on any laws he had installed would have started deteriorating that image. Remember, he's the same guy that threw Joshua Graham down into the Grand Canyon despite his amazing combat skill on par with if not superceding Lanius, and having history with him from his Followers days. It speaks to his cold judgement and ruthlessness.

That, and I can't imagine there are billions of people left on the earth anyway.

Again, the Enclave in 76 and in 3 weren't fascists either, and I would argue Autumn had a viable plan for the DC Wasteland. New Vegas also went the distance to humanize an old squad, showing that they obviously all weren't fanatically devoted soldiers looking to genocide everyone not them. The only one that was bitter as vinegar was Moreno, and that's more because of the NCR being a bunch of annexing hypocrites, not because he had any real grudge against normal people. For fucks sake, Arcade regards his Enclave heritage with shame, but also hints of pride.

Gee willikers, it's almost like Obsidian knows how to write nuance! The Frontier is if you took a fucking sledgehammer to a typewriter. There's no goddamn subtlety anywhere. It's just The Phantom Pain 2: Electric Boogaloo. Or at least it would be, but Hunt Down The Freeman already did it and that had a semi-cohesive story compared to this derivative schlock.

Not only does it steal scores of plot points from Wolfenstein, but it also fucking apes Heart of Darkness, as well as several other war themed books and games, most notably, Call of Duty 4, but I'm sure that was abundantly obvious by now.

When I heard about the lizardmen memes, the first thing I thought was "somewhat intelligent mutated lizards with guns" like the intelligent deathclaws from Fallout 2 or those cut tribal injun raccoons from the first game.

Instead what I see are like some freaky scaly otherkin OCs from Furaffinity; twink-ish snake people with creepy-looking dragon heads and wings, girly voices (with an obnoxious hiss) and manly upper-bodies who are super horny and high on drugs all the time and claim humans are really attracted to them for some reason. If that's not some weirdo trying to push his fetish, then I don't know what is.

I like how they thought "Hey, you know how reptile people always drag out their S sounds? Instead lets not do that with any words with S in it and just add a few S's to the beginning of every word AFTER a word beginning with S!" was clever at all.
It really ain't.

The thing with Joshua makes sense when you consider just how bad it was for the Legion: a good chunk of their OG vets got RANGER'D from afar and nearly the entire army was obliterated in Boulder City. While Joshua was an excellent killing machine, he was more of a drill sergeant than a general like Lanius is. He's probably remarkably more competent in Honest Hearts because his enemies are literally retarded nomads who get shitstomped when the people they raid actually fight back. Though I guess realizing how lost you were does wonders to one's ability to think ahead.

They were working on the ACHIMEDES map at least as far back as summer of '15, though I can't say if that came with the story concept or they just filled that in later. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if aping the Wolfenstien scene was specifically intended as a reference, rather than trying to plagiarize or ORANGE MAN BAD. What those screenshots don't tell you is that the very same room where that scene happens also contains a body named Issac Clarke, who is holding a unique energy weapon. Their reference game is frankly all over the place, ranging from a pre-war shop named "Elim's Fine Tailors" to a ghoul prostitute named Dick Kickum, to actually using the phrase "you've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"

Figures it'd be splattered with pop culture references and memes.

As I said, it's all over the place. Sometimes it absolutely ruins the atmosphere, other times it's well-done and others it just stands by itself without references, just like Fallout 2.

The other caveat I would mention is that I've yet to see anyone talking about the Legion or BoS routes. The NCR was always advertised as the big, stupid, engine-breaking spectacle campaign, with the other two being closer to traditional New Vegas. I haven't touched either of the others yet, like most, apparently, so maybe they pick things up in the quality department.

This is the reason on why Firaxis didn't told Torque's voice actor that she was voicing a alien snake, they knew that the hissing would be annoying

Of course it'd be Wojak memes.

No, you still get captured and beat up by the Legion even if you're sided with them.
I know the term railroading has been thrown around a lot, but it's extremely prevalent here. At the very least, you're given more free reign of the map unlike the NCR.

No Step on Snek!

Now that the mandatory snekposting is out of the way, Jesus Fucking Christ is that terrible writing. And that goes double for all the shitty ham-fisted sci-fi references.

It really does feel like they made the mod in a traditional action game format, which is to say that they made a bunch of fancy setpiece moments (crucifixion, Archimedes, big vertiberd scene, etc), and then tried to figure out how to stitch them all together. It has massive fucking flaws, but I'm honestly having fun with it. Maybe once the "ooh, shiny new thing" wears off I'll start getting tired of it, or maybe I just have a higher tolerance for shitty mod writing than most.

On the topic, their latest hotfix says that they've moved some content into Wild Wasteland requirement, so maybe that will help with the references a bit.
