If vidya helps him cope, then why not let him have vidya?
Chris has spent his entire life with his eyes on a screen, in a book, or sleeping through lessons. He retreats into his happy place whenever reality requires his attention, actively ignoring his problems until his home burns down.

inb4 THAT DAMN TROLL KNOCKED MY HOUSE DOWN because Chris just hmm'ed and nodded without actually listening. Like he always does.

No more donations until a new comic is made, guys.

Chris been slackin' off for too long. Sonichu's saga has not been finished!!

Could you imagine them living in a duplex or apartment? It would be a good thing Chris isn't the prolific videographer he once was.

More simply, people don't like to see their charity wasted on frivolous things, which is understandable, but come on. Chris is going to ignore his problems and retreat into his own fantasy world with or without video games. I guess the unrealistic hope some people here have is that he'll segregate the monies and other fire-related donations he receives from them from the free gubmint money he already gets every month and spend the former exclusively on necessities such as food or toiletries.

Of course, that's not going to happen. Money is money. Gift cards are basically money too. Nobody, much less a manchild who has been living on the dole his entire life, is going to make any kind of distinction between "responsible stuff" money and "video games" money.

I'm going to be fair in this one; at least he's starting to appreciate the help he's getting. But that's just a tiny step for him to get in touch with reality which is several kilometers away and he's only taking a millimeter at a time. And by time, well, lets just say its a long one.

By Chris standards, this is actually pretty genuine and grateful. Then again, he does tend to take one step forward, ten steps back.

I once heard that even the step of a drunken St. Bernard onto the thin ice of a frozen lake is forward progress, but it's nice to see him saying thank you even though we know this won't last long.

That being said, this situation reminds me of the old adage: "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for life." From what we know of their spending habits it's fairly safe to assume that they had already spent a large portion of their monthly income by the time of the fire, so donating at the moment would be like giving a starving man some fishing tackle and the location of a nearby fishing hole, along with a few fish to hold them over in the meantime. But giving them more after they pawn the tackle for a few cheap toys will do more harm than good; after all, what happens when there is no one around to give them things and they still haven't learned to fish?

Here's a question... during the "renovations" wouldn't whoever is making repairs have to ensure that the building meets fire codes? And wouldn't that include removing most of the remaining Horde?

Man I have no idea but I just snort-laughed imagining it

I can see :snorlax: getting another assault charge over that. "Dat dere's mah PROPTY! Yew ain't gonna take dat outta mah house!"

At least they get a nice clean house that doesn't have cat poop and creepy crawlies.

I get how someone would be a packrat and like their worldly possessions.

But how could someone possibly be so immune to bed bugs, animal waste and rotten food, especially if they have known better surroundings?

I bet in 1992 or thereabouts, 14 Branchland Court was fairly clean, pleasant, and cat scat free.... I can't believe anyone wouldn't want to keep their house that way!
Mental issues.
I'd go into detail but it's been discussed like, a grand amount of times.
Long story short, Barb hoards because she feels abandoned.

Again, I get the possesions and treasures she hoarded like Smaug the Dragon. But what about all the gunk and bugs that she lived with? Did they make her feel safe...? (yeesh!!!)

Or maybe she made friends with and talked to the bugs, much like Snow White and the forest animals?

I'm imagining this, only with bugs/bacteria instead of cuddly woodland creatures.

Not sure what's being done about a car, but some insurances will also rent a car for you to use (for so many miles of course).

Didn't they leave 14BC on the 10th in one of the cars? Or did it break down or something and I missed it or forgot?

As always, it's just waiting for the next Fb post, which will have an exactly opposite tone and message. Almost like there are two Chrises who alternate who gets to post.

I'm waiting for Chris to get the forum's care package and be a total prick about it.

Yeah, no, I'm not giving Chris gift cards to buy more video games.

Could that be the "huge box" he's referring to? Because there were also some trouble with the trackin number for that one.

lol get a job fat boy. It was a one time deal, very few people are going to continue subsidising you to sit on your ass no matter how hard you milk the fire story.

More than likely. That's the only box that we know of that Chris hasn't received yet.

There is literally no job that Chris would be competent enough to do. We've decided, in several separate topics that Chris is:
  • Too dumb for the Army
  • Too dumb and incompetent to be a janitor
  • Too dumb, incompetent and greasy to work in a mail room (seriously, every letter he touched would have to be tested for anthrax)
  • Too dumb and too greasy to work at a fast food restaurant (would you want him touching your food?)

The best way that Chris can benefit society at this point is by staying far, far, away from it.

Exactly. Chris is completely unemployable, and not because of the Slanderous Lies you find when you Google his name.

He could do menial work like stitching mail bags, making kevlar body armour like they do in Jails, You aren't exactly dealing with Genius IQ's there either but he'd probably have to be forced to do it under violence and threats.
