FB 8/10 - Chris comments on a news article about incest

I'm wondering if this could be related to his face-blindness. We know he's not good at telling faces apart, he can't even remember his own face, he even appears to have difficulty telling body types apart and he honestly thinks he looks like a Playboy centrefold. I'm wondering if his facial recognition is so ballsed-up that the instinctive repulsion one normally feels towards blood relatives just doesn't work because he can't tell Barb from any other woman.

Faceblindness isn't as dramatic as it sounds. It's not like people with faceblindness see faces like a blurred out tv interview. It's just that they are missing the thing that most people have which is super good at recognizing and differentiating human faces. Most of us have little trouble differentiating between hundreds or thousands of people we vaguely know. But if we were asked what we are using to make that differentiation, we would have no idea. Our ability to differentiate human faces far exceeds our ability to differentiate anything else. Faceblindness is the absence of that special ability. But it doesn't mean he can't tell people apart. He can recognize his own mother without problem, just like we wouldn't have problems recognizing our own cat or dog.

I think it probably has more to do with one of Chris' many other deficiencies, lack of theory of mind. He views other people as different manifestations of the non-CWC entity, and all he wants is for one of those manifestations to be his sweetheart.

He also has a very warped view of romance and sex. He hung around mall food courts with a sign advertising for a sweetheart. He drank his own semen. He stared at a poster of Sailor Moon to stave off homosexuality. After years of constantly trying to assert his masculinity, he flipped and now tries to assert his feminity. He was convinced he could turn his penis into a vagina by self-hypnosis. He fantasized repeatedly and openly about tribbing, a not particularly common sex position for lesbians which is unlikely to give him physical pleasure. He is clearly an isolated, not particularly intelligent person, who has no idea how to deal with his sex drive. Given that, does it seem hugely surprising that he would give the possibility of incest way too serious consideration?

Facial blindness is a particularly bad condition to have. As humans 80% of our communications are non verbal. Add to that that we are also a very social species and the recipe for social isolation is not hard to imagine.

Chris is already confirmed to not recognize the pickleman even though they have met several times.

Autism is a very difficult condition to deal with and Chris doesn't even try.

Serious faceblindness actually does reach that level but that's not what Chris has.

Chris is less faceblind than he is just pretty shitty at recognizing faces. Part of this is autism and part of this is he honestly just doesn't give a fuck about the vast majority of people so he doesn't even bother to remember their faces.

Long time lurker (before the first induction of kiwi farms) and first time poster. Rediscovered this gem of a comment on the wiki today:

"I am close to my mother, but I would advise some space between you and your mother. And I recommend finding yourself a Girlfriend/Sweetheart to remain with in your later years of life. Mama's not gonna be around forever."

I haven't read the whole thread but I really hope Chris is going to pull another "Ha! I was just kidding! Fooled you trolls again!." But as disturbing as it is, it's really not surprising to me. Long time coming, really.

He has not been able to difference between the pickleman and his true and honest sweetheart several times, men tend to be worse with faces when it comes to women are very good with the faces the women they are courting or women they view as the most fertile. Chris' problem lies in the fusiform gyrus of his brain, which means that part of his brain is either screwed up in structure or shape or is not connecting to other parts of his brain necessary for the complete recognition of faces. Chris would be able to recognize Barb and Bob just because he was exposed to them over a longer period of time, just like he can recognize his gal-pals in his facebook. Just like his galpals, though, if his brother aged slightly or put on a little bit of weight, he may be completely unrecognizable to Chris. Chris also has a difficult time differentiating between voices, being duped by a 13-year-old boy playing a brother and girlfriend and the same time. Chris got accustomed to Borbs aging faces and recognize them because he was gradually introduced to their changes, also the fact that they were already old when he was born helped as well. Chris' inability to distinguish between faces or voices along with his driving history leads me to believe that his autism is pretty bad, but he is also severely exceptional as well.

He has often fallen for tricks like multiple people with different voices/photos etc. playing the same character. I wonder if his gullibility and ability to completely ignore information and not think things through plays a part of that.

If someone uses the same voice and tells Chris he is both a girl and her brother, Chris' first reaction would be to accept it, particularly if it is to his benefit. Then he can block out any input into his brain that might challenge the pleasant idea that he has a sweetheart.

The answer to the question "what is Chris thinking?" is often "very, very, little".
