Agreed. I'm already working on saving up for the holidays, and the best motivation I have to resist the temptation to prematurely spend any of it is to think the words "Don't Be Chris!". Works every time.
He was met with massive resistance from both poverty groups because they saw it as a slippery slope when the government decides what they can and can't buy their their stamps, and surprise surprise a beverage lobbyist who wanted to keep the government money sliding into their profit margins.
What stuff is that? This one always drove me crazy. Laws wouldn't regulate what adults can and can not eat; Laws would regulate what adults whose existence depends on the state can buy with their ration money. Some of the stuff in that article is vile and should not be on any diet.
What stuff is that?
Just added another page to my recipe book. (Well, not entirely, I'd have to think about it a bit and decide what kind of cheese sauce and what kind of cheetos to use, but basically, yeah.Cheese Whiz poured over Cheetos...

They're already maxed out.Charb will be probably just use a credit card at hotels until they're maxed out
There's a similar problem in the UK, where it's possible to be working full time and yet still not afford to be able to feed your family adequately. It sucks balls, because the government's unwillingness to help the poor eat well winds up impacting on the National Health Service when these people wind up getting sick. Sorry, little off-topic rant there. I work for the NHS.Hey, if that's the best they can afford with their SNAP, then go with it. Despite that Fox News horseshit claiming that people on Food Stamps are buying lobster every day, you don't get that much in SNAP funds to make it through the month.
I'd worry about thread derailment, but I think this particular thread is hitting its natural end anyway. Yeah, EBT is usable for some really stupid shit. Energy drinks are a new one on me. If you need a buzz, coffee is arguably less bad for you and certainly more cost-effective.
The argument you'll hear is that the gubmint shouldn't be able to tell me what I can and can't buy. To which, I'd point out, the government isn't telling you what you can't buy, they're telling you what THEY are unwilling to buy with THEIR money*. Anytime you give someone money, you can specify it's to be used for x, y, or z. It's your money to give, and if the person taking it doesn't accept your terms, they have the choice not to take it. If you're taking government money for food and necessities, it's unfair to complain that they expect you to use it for food and necessities.
I'll also throw out that I think my definition of "food and necessities" is pretty damned broad.
*Yes, in a roundabout way, it's actually our money as taxpayers, but since the state is cutting the check I'll describe it this way.
The entirety of this current page has not a single post about Chris or the original subject matter, so I'm going to lock this.Guys, why are we discussing EBT?
