Any of you all get together and play in general out of curiosity? I haven't been out to events in a long time.

iDom and Punk crashing out of groups makes it a worthwhile event. Otherwise it's just SF6 throw loops galore.
I have huge respect for idom for staying character loyal. A punk is character that brings entertainment to a bornibg game and honestly that’s what makes NA such a good region to watch because each player has so much personality(Noah and Jack are goofy. What we’re lacking is the competitive nature of the Japan region.
It so obviously tries to be a better SF3 with all the urban imagery and themes, but it just come out as hollow and boring, and the uncanny models don't help either.

They tried to make an updated street fighter three that inherited the issues that came with street fighter three while on top of it adding the overdrive system which is terribly designed. It doesn’t matter how good your game looks when the gameplay is boring and shitty. Marisa, Lily,JP, Jamie would have gotten better in SFV or even Sf4. Because if your character doesn’t have a good drive rush or any way to quickly burn out your opponent, then your characters is dogshit look at manon.

Not sure if this is the place but what happened to Soul Calibur after SC6? I recall it sold well, well enough to get a good chunk of DLC, and then...Nothing since then.

Technically nothing. It was generally well received but never found a "real" audience. SC6 was too different to Soul Calibur for the SC base to stick around and too similar to Tekken for the Tekken base to stick around (instead of playing Tekken with Swords, you could just play Tekken). I think it's "fine" but there's not really a great core game there - the netcode isn't great and neither are the matchups for online and there's not a lot of offline content to care about, which was a huge miss for SC and FGs in general.

There isn't a hard rule or anything, but it went Tekken 7 -> SC6 -> Tekken 8 -> likely SC7 if they do one, although the series hasn't really had much of an identity since SC3 and I'm not sure what you would even do in a hypothetical SC7 (although given FGC trends - more comeback mechanics, guest characters, meters, and character specific meters/mechanics). Tekken 8, while predictable, was officially revealed about a year or two before it's 2024 release - so I'd imagine that SC7 will get announced on the tail end of Tekken 8 (probably Season Pass 4 or so).

I'd prefer if they left it alone if they don't know what to do with it, but I'm sure they're going to dredge up something and milk it for all it's worth.

I see, sitrep much appreciated.

I stayed up till four fucking a.m. waiting for the Elena trailer and they didn’t drop shit. That ending presentation for SFL was just a Corpo circle jerk of thanking themselves. And then they announced they’re going to collaborate with the Saudi for the esportsWorld Cup. I hate Corpo bullshit.

At least they're better than 5's (at least I thought 5's looked bad), and 4. SF4 definitely had more charm than early V, but I can't look at that game and think it doesn't look incredibly scuffed.

It couldn't keep an online playerbase without rollback, and it's considered by many to be frustratingly slow and RPS'y to play with gameplay being stopped for cutscenes often.

The most you can say about 4 is that they tried to stay to the anime-ish look that most people are familiar with regarding how the characters look. You can look at T-Hawk and Fei-Long and say "yea they look similar to, if not exactly like, their SSF2/SSF2T character portraits."

Once they started going down the "realism" look in SFV, even with the beta, that's when shit went south fast.

Would you mind giving us more information? How's it fucked right now?
Season 2 launched a few days ago and the balance is all kinds of fucked up.

Primarily a lot of people were complaining that Rushdown was too effective (aka, the attacker has too much of an advantage while the defender is backed into a corner) and that there was tons of offensive tools but virtually no defensive tools.

S2 gave out a lot more offensive power, virtually no defensive options, and buffed heat so all of the problems most people had with Tekken just got amplified to the extreme - on top of all kinds of technical issues, bugs, and so on as well. Some characters now have access to Touches of Death (or near Touches of Death) or comically high or safe damage. More moves than ever are safe, even if blocked, fucking over defenders even further.

Now, more than ever before, rounds can be boiled down to "who landed a jab or launcher first".

So the story now is literally everyone in the FF universe is eventually going to be in the game...
