It could mean a bunch of things really. The stress of trying to put this event together, getting mad at nothing and not getting it done, people being lazy etc etc. I'm not accusing them of being anything because I haven't been to ECT ever but even if they have some weirdos with them, it's always a shame to see something like this get shut down.I get the financial issues and other people having better careers excuses, but what's that whole "mental collapse" shit about?
It's probably too few people being stretched too far. It was a fairly large tourney that might not be possible to have without a certain amount of people. In 2024 they had probably ~400-500 people across all of the tournies, plus sponsors, broadcast tech, accomodations - it's a huge pain in the ass to have an event of this scale. You'd likely need a small army of Tournament Organizers alone to keep it afloat. If enough people decided it wasn't worth the effort this year, it likely would just collapse from that.I get the financial issues and other people having better careers excuses, but what's that whole "mental collapse" shit about?
>this community is deeply queerSome fag wrote a review (archive) of City of the Wolves and dedicated half of it to whining about how Saudi Arabia is going to kill queer people.
But people like Ronaldo get thrown out of the fighting game community. Guys like Infiltration, a multiple-time EVO champion who was convicted of beating his wife, and TempestNYC, another EVO champion who couldn’t keep his hands to himself. The list goes on. This community is deeply queer, largely made up of people of color, and extremely protective of its grassroots origins and the people in it. Corporate, moneyed influence is something it — no, we — have always fought against because this community is ours. We built it. It’s not for sale. Every year, some of the greatest fighting game players in the world turn down the chance to compete at the Esports World Cup for life-changing money because it is funded by the Public Investment Fund and they do not feel safe, as queer people, in Saudi Arabia. I’m sure City of the Wolves will headline the next event in Riyadh next year, and more people will have to decide what they believe. At some point, you are who you choose to be.
I can't take anyone serious if they bring that up out of nowherealso lol at still seething at Infiltration where you have to use him as an example.
They ruined my local and I'll never forgive them for it.> This community is deeply queer
Uh, no. It was fucking made queer by a bunch of faggots in the last 10 years. Fighting games were always an extremely and utterly male autistic interest and fags would get laughed and insulted out of arcades for their faggotry.
Not to mention the idiocy of bringing up Infiltration. He was cleared of all charges as far as I can recall. And wouldn't you know, the so-called "inappropriate behavior" of TempestNYC's was against, you guessed it, a pair of troons.
Troons and faggots made the FGC queer in the last 10 years because of course, they don't feel satisfied if they don't entrench themselves every-fucking-where. 20, 25 years ago they'd have been laughed out of the room.
fix'dI keep looking for locals but I'm concerned I won't like what I smell.
If saudi oil money didnt exist city of the wolves wouldnt exist and someone would be trying to revive snk for a 3rd time so its probably okay to have some saudi values in a single fighting game when theres mk1,ggst, tekken 8, and uni2

shooters haven’t innovated much since halo but theyre still popularIt's also not about a good one, because there are a lot of good ones - it's about innovation. Arguably the largest innovation was the concept of team vs team that crystallized in Marvel vs Capcom 2 - which was 25 years ago.
sf4 in the dog shit category is crazy but ill agree they peaked around that time with certain exceptions even ssb peaked in with melee, what we need is more new franchises but you can also say platformers peaked on nes or n64 or fps peaked on xbox or jrpgs peaked on snes or ps1 so its just weird when people only say this about fighting gamesEven if you think I'm wrong about that specific innovation, generally speaking most people think (me included) that fighting games peaked near 2000 (MVC2 in 2000, 3rd Strike in 99, Tekken 3 in '97, Soul Calibur 2 in '02, Power Stone in '99, etc) and turned into absolute dogshit (Tekken 4/5/6, SC 4/5, SF 4, MVC3/I, etc) and now are kind of approaching OK again (Tekken 7/8, MK whatever, SF6) but most genres have massively evolved in the same time period.
single player content was always bad in fighting games i think the only way to fix it is to have a good story which has always been treated as secondary and still isThey aren't really played in arcades anymore but the online isn't amazing either - but the games basically require PVP as there isn't much fun in fighting CPUs and not a lot of single player content.
this review made me buy city of wolves lolSome fag wrote a review (archive) of City of the Wolves and dedicated half of it to whining about how Saudi Arabia is going to kill queer people.

Shooters as a term has pretty much exploded. From Halo you've got all kinds of "branches" and a huge swathe of game modes.shooters haven’t innovated much since halo but theyre still popular\
It isn't strictly about "peak" (although some have peaked) but most generes are finding new avenues. Even for "platformers" there's big strides. Mario Maker let's people make their own shit and Sega said "fuck it" and let fans make Sonic Mania as on official release. Baldur's Gate 3 absolutely pushed out the CRPG Genre. Expedition 33 is already some peoples GOTY. MOBAs exist, Autobattlers exist, and so on.sf4 in the dog shit category is crazy but ill agree they peaked around that time with certain exceptions even ssb peaked in with melee, what we need is more new franchises but you can also say platformers peaked on nes or n64 or fps peaked on xbox or jrpgs peaked on snes or ps1 so its just weird when people only say this about fighting games
It's a way to practice without needing an online connection/second person. It's good for onboarding, practice, teaching, and different game modes. I think Soul Calibur 2/3 and Tekken 3/Tag had some decent offline play - but a sorely unutilized mode currently. SF6 has some, which means someone is at least trying to bring it back.single player content was always bad in fighting games i think the only way to fix it is to have a good story which has always been treated as secondary and still is
I'm late but: lol Guilty Gear Strive's source code leaked. 122.4 GB. Lucy and Unika are playable.
It reminds me of that one GG Strive tournament where a majority of Top 8 players (one that included UMISHO, who himself was outed as a liar and an uncontrollable sex pest) all had fucking trans flags instead of the flags of the countries they represent. It's REALLY fucking telling, because they're putting their identities first and their literal homes second. And from that point forward, we knew GG was lost to the alphabet crowd, and a lot of OG players (myself included) bowed the fuck out when we saw the signs.I don't fully understand how LGBTQ especially transgenders have this bad effect on communities but they really do. It becomes all about reaffirming their identity instead of playing the game. Playing the game should be on spot #1. It's what brings people together. Plus the competetive aspect.
They seem to take it as an opportunity to change it into a hugbox and change it into a validation machine for transgenders and make it all about being a safe space for transgenders. And only that. It's not about the game anymore.
They also inject themselves in higher positions to make sure the hugbox is being enforced and not broken down by people who don't abide by it.
People who are not transgenders now abide by the rules or they are exiled. Walking on eggshells. And that's how it's enforced. Eventhough none of these transgenders built these communites. They inject themselves into it and slowly change it from the inside out. I think this is what pisses people off the most.
If they made their own competetive scene/tournament for transgenders who would hate on that, noone. But they don't get validation from that they need "normal" people to confirm their identity and give them dopamine hits for being a stunning brave woman. If they just played the game and stopped trying to make it their own hugbox by forcing rules and punishing anything that's "anti-trans" that would already be enough for people not to hate them.
