People on my server on Aether did the same thing. They would AFK at NPCs or aetherytes to make sure to stay logged in in order to not lose progress on their leveling/raid prep.

Primal Hyperion, my server, did that a lot too and still does when they can. Only they aren't even rping (as far as I knew), they're legit just afking. Their is a reason Idylshire is meme'd "Idleshire". People treated it like a screensaver for the entirety of Heavensward, especially as the middle area got built so they can proudly display whatever shit glamour outfit they threw together.

I'm on Crystal because it was the only DC with open worlds when I started and I've since established roots in my current world. We could maybe make a Discord or Telegram group for everyone who's not on the DC though.

That's a nice idea, since a lot of us are spread out on different data-centers. We could have dedicated data-center raid channels in Discord or just a chat in Telegram for memes and such.

The one hang-up I have about Discord is that it has a tendency to advertise every server you're attached to if you have servers in a common, and with how Discord-centric the FF14 community is, if you're part of like a datacenter-wide hunts server or something, you might reveal a lot about yourself to the people in the Discord. That and it doesn't really have an easy way of spinning up alt identities if you don't want to use the same account you use to post in everything else.

If there's a way to configure a Discord server to make it less of a hellish dox trap, I think that might be good. Otherwise it might be worth just using some other chat system.

EDIT: Maybe we should make a room in the Kiwifarms Matrix/Riot/Element server?

So I just got started on this game after finally managing to get past its atrocious introduction on attempt #3, and I've got to say that this nonsense is the whackest shit in the game. Like. I get the impression a single report can just end your whole career if you happen to suggest a tank turn on its emnity skill and there's a white knight around - but people can straight up advertise in public, open channels about some creepy internet sex-roleplaying thing, no repercussions. I've seen that pop up so many times just doing random shit in the middle of nowhere - but oh, no, that's kosher; that's protected. Mildly suggesting the uWu;;; faggot hit some buttons rather than autoattacking, though, is about on the same scale as the Great Leap Forward.

I get the feeling I might hop to max level and then bounce just due to how fuckin' pathetic this playerbase is. Which is a damn shame, since I quite rather like the mechanics and style and so-on -- but goddamn. How do you people who've been at it for years cope? I've barely dipped my toes in the water and I'm already ignoring most chat channels wherein folks seem liable advertise they're looking to buy some pictures of wet toes.

Coming off lurk status here to state that, unless the tank or their white knight is butt buddies with a GM, nobody's going to report you for simply telling a Tank to turn their Tank stance on in this game, and even if they did, nothing's going to come from it. The worst you'd get out of it is a lot of toothless backlash and attitude from the offenders and maybe other people in your party and either a votekick or people will just abandon party.

I've been playing since early 2.0 and I've run into situations like this more times than I care to remember. People just get incredibly pissy over being advised on what to do, or they get pissy over NOT being told what to do, so, either way you go about it, you're probably going to be in for shitters acting entitled no matter what.

You learn to roll with it. At least until you have to deal with it when running Savage/EX content. And that's where you get to dealing with the stuff that people in this thread have been discussing at length recently what with raid culture and community drama.

Yeah, I've played since the alpha and from nearly 9 years of playing it, the instances where people are jackasses during dungeons is very small. Even if something crops up, from what I seen, most people are able to squash it and go on without making a big deal unless you get a particularly petty person but again, it's pretty uncommon.

The whole reporting players for being mean actually isn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. The whole harrassment thing is only if..say a streamer was going out of their way to put you down in front of everyone and call you a piece of shit and humiliating you instead of either A: giving advice or B: just telling them that they are gonna have to leave/just kicking them from the group. Because the reality is, if you cry to a GM because someone hurt your feelings, they don't give a shit because it's a problem that you the player can fix yourself. There's a blacklist button, that is what it's there for. The GM will just tell you to use it and stop wasting their time being a whiny faggot in an MMO. The rules being written as they were are mostly just written as they were as a...uh I dunno the word. A front or something along the lines, a courtesy. GMs have more important things to moderate than answering reports of every crybaby that runs to them. Like culling the bots, the RMT scammers, account sharing folks, people who intentionally sabo raid runs, etc.

As for the erp thing, I think Yoshi has addressed it in that he's okay with it as long as people keep the creepy cybersexing to private DMs and not shout it out to everyone. He's very nice to the RP community, giving them tools and tons of emotes to use for said rping. So yeah, love it or hate it, rp is everywhere no matter where you go. It's eye rolling and cringey as fuck, but as long as they keep the erp shit to themselves, I'm mostly fine.

I suppose that's the trouble with trying to get an outsider's impression - the more negative people are the loudest, and a glance at the forums and reddit give a fairly misleading impression of how the day-to-day goes. It seems like there's truth to the idea that one had best bite one's tongue, but that the consequence of refusing to do so is more tooth-gnashing and frustration than getting your account nuked and locked - at least for the more minor unstated-code-of-ethics violations.

Folks mostly just don't jaw too much from my experiences thusfar, so it's been hard to figure if the punishment went any further than some speds getting worked up and huffy, or if a pissant could get a GM to give you a timeout because you hurt their feelings. The latter was impressed upon me by the people that dragged me in, though it's wholly possible they've a rougher time not shouting at schlubs than your average joe and are as such more affected.

There was a big post on their main forums about ERP advertising that was mildly entertaining to read through for a slow work day. Traditionally, I've rolled on roleplaying servers for a more laid-back MMO experience, so I don't mind the field as a whole quite so much. And so far back as I can recall, there's always been people enjoying some sizzling, sultry sentences for sexual stimulation - but I don't think I've ever seen it advertised so broadly and openly. Particularly in the era of endless discord servers to groom to your heart's content on, it just strikes me as a rather odd and brazen thing to just throw out there for everyone.

A humorous note in my experience is that, upon returning to give Shadowbringers a try back in December, I've noticed that most Tanks these days seem to turn their tank stance on no matter what, even in 8-man content and they're delegated to the "Off Tank" role, and there's practically no reason not to turn it on (or turn it off for that matter) when running dungeons since every Tank is now given their Tank stance before even starting Sastasha. (Anyone else remember the days where you didn't get your stance until starting Brayflox? Fun times.) So you should never really run into an issue where a Tank doesn't already have their stance on. Unless you're a professional idiot like myself who sometimes forgets to turn it on when queuing between lower leveled content and Expert roulette and don't realize it until a pull or two in when you're asking yourself why the hell is everyone generating so much aggro until you look at your bars and realize "oh fuck, that's right, I forgot to turn my stance back on after that last queue/class change".

As for the prevalence/open nature of the ERP scene, I really don't think the general administration of XIV cares too much. Lord knows that if they ever decided to take a hard stance on it and start cracking down on people for openly advertising their degeneracy, it would cause an unprecedented shitstorm among the more vocal portions of the playerbase at large. I know some people have recently thrown massive tantrums over the fact that they cracked down on people posting screenshots of nude mods, but because that only predominantly affects the people who do so on social media or on Discords (as far as I understood it?), it's an issue mostly disregarded by the fact that there's been no crackdown on fanart and drawn porn of their XIV characters. Basically "You can make whatever you want and we can't stop you, but don't go showing off how you illicitly modified our in-game assets for explicit adult content" seems to be their outlook on it.

Then again, that last point is a bit of an extrapolation on my part based on observing feedback and having seen a few of the notable ERP celebrities turn their social media presence almost completely "SFW" after having previously established themselves as the type of people who regularly post nude mod screenshots of their characters.

A bit more difficult for me. Probably due to the race I play and what my character looks like, it's not uncommon for other players to send me tells to hit on my character, and they think that you're into the things they're into.

Not uncommon to run into ERP nonsense in public. It's often very badly written too.

Lalafells have a whole complex about being the "master race", and I'd say most of them that hang out around that circle want to ERP with other lalafell players. One hardcore raider lalafell was complaining recently about lalafells getting "bullied", and most lalafell players that replied were degenerates. If you stopped posting pictures of your modded naked lalafell, people wouldn't bully you.

You turn off tank stance in savage/ultimate raids when you're not tanking a particular enemy. AKA off-tanking.

Thank goodness it's done there, at least. I haven't actually touched Savage or even Extreme content since Heavensward, but the amount of off-tanks I've been seeing who insist on popping on their Tank stance for basic bitch Hard mode trials and story mode Eden had me worried that this was the new trend. Especially when I've asked some of them a few times if they wanted to MT or OT for a single target fight, they say OT, and then proceed to leave their stance on when I take over.
