Do they not see the irony of mischaracterizing Wuk as a "trans icon" despite them not being a trans character? Isn't that exactly what they bitch about when it comes to misgendering?

These are the same people who tried to appropiate Samus as a troon icon, apparently they figure that because she's immensely taller than the average woman (or man, in any case) and can transform into a ball with with fangs by deforming her body that makes her a troon.

It's more telling on them than anything, just like when people whined about D&D orcs being 'black coded' merely because they are low intelligence violent creatures and so classifying them as an evil only race was racist.

Ah man, I will never forget the sweet sound of the collective meltdown and seethe of troons in the Bayonetta community. She was supposed to be their bisexual diva queen that they would relentlessly fantasize about being. So when it was revealed that she got married to a man and had a daughter with him to form an entirely normal and stable and happy family, their salt levels were off the fucking charts. HOW DARE MY TROON ICON BECOME A TRAD WIFE AND BE HAPPY?

God dammit that troon shit is a massive L for an otherwise juice expansion, guess i'll have to use JP voices instead, would be nice if it were possible to replace specific characters voices in cutscenes but alas they're all or nothing.

Unless... somebody modded the JP voices over while keeping the english for others.

Maybe something im going to look further into when dawntrail releases.

Theoretically it should be possible even if the voices are mixed together as cutscene audio, would just require some manual editing but by the gods it would absolutely make those degens mald and flip a shit... it'd be beautiful.

Speaking of which, the first week or two without dalamud addons is going to be agony, my carefully tuned delvui setup + all the QOL shit like ingame vendor search / quick teleports are just too handy.

The current hottest thread on reddits ffxiv sub is celebrating that troon (something like 2k+ upvotes), i had to flush my eyes with bleach after taking a peek. And of course those who dared not like it got ganged up on.

There is a mod out there that adds voicelines to every single quest in the game by using a healthy dose of volunteer voice actors, AI generation and manual editing to very closely match what the NA actors sound like, it runs off of a discord bot and runs on top of the game so it technically does not directly tamper with the files.

I'm sure someone could use that to either do JP voiceovers or better yet, replace Wuk Lamat's troon voice with an AI amalgamation of actual natal women doing the lines.

Seems too convoluted for just one character (Not sure how big her role will be).
Seeking to replace all her voicelines with the japanese ones is my first strategy.
If that works im gonna see if I am able to pull Elevenlabs and give her a normal english voice.

Stepping out of Eorzea for this, but when I was younger and had a D&D group, a conversation like this popped up and how everything similar has a "man" prefix or suffix. Got into a fun discussion about lizard men often identify more with their scaled brothers and sisters, they're man-like because they started standing upright and gained two hands as opposed to four feet; or Yuan-Ti who identify more with snakes than humans/mankind. To which someone asked, so would they look at humans and say we're monkeys, yes. But that'd require actually building a whole new society and rules for them and possibly creating an in/out group, something no one seems to want to do; while they bitch about dumb shit like tribal or beast men.

I don't think they've gotten to dialogue stuff yet, but it's mostly been quest information in terms of MSQ spoilers.

And you know why, re: the MSQ stuff I posted.

Troons are going to latch onto a character like Wuk Lamat because 'omg it's so heckin me.' I saw a discussion the other night about the VA and how jarring WL's delivery, intonation, etc. immediately devolve into 'MUH TRANSPHOBIA.' Keeping in mind this was a larger discussion about VA in general.

It's also why people fixate on Ryne/Gaia as jailbait lesbians. Or how Zero is nonbinary. Etc.

Yeah, and if I'm remembering right, the 'beast tribe' thing started with Ul'dah and their spat with Sil'dihn, effectively as propaganda against the lizardmen.

There's a lot of detail put into something pretty minor, which I find interesting. But I do agree that there's going to be localization nonsense creeping in. I think we had a bit of it in EW, as that chick who is part of the translation team was giddy over something.

I think the delineation fell apart in SB when they couldn't figure out what the Lupin were supposed to be, possibly due to cut content.

The ARR and HW ones were all pretty cookie cutter. They were dumb and more in touch with primals than the enlightened races. Then slowly that got dropped until you wind up with EDM rabbits.
