Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

This is basically where husband and I are at. We've been focusing on the older hard dungeons we haven't run yet, mixed with a bit of PVP and achievement hunting.

It's frustrating to not be excited for new content in a game I enjoyed so greatly prior to DT.

In all honesty, FFXIV is similar for me; there's been very few games these past few years I've gotten so invested in for whatever reason, so seeing how DT has tanked it all so hard... it's a wee bit upsetting.

As for what I'm planning next; as mentioned, I'm going to be making a new character, though I'd like to figure out what direction I'm going to be going with it. I've got an idea for a challenge I was going to be running with said character, though figuring out the jobs that I'm going to be running is... complex, honestly.

I genuinely believe more than ever in my conspiracy theory that Wuk was intended to be the new main character, the new face of FFXIV,

It feels like you're a bit right; given the backlash, I'm honestly surprised that Yoshi is still using Wuk. Unless he somehow manages to fix Wuk's character - which is unlikely, given just how bad the reputation already is - it's likely the story is going to continue on a downward trend. Which is a shame; I was interested in seeing where the story would go, but with all that's happened, I'm most likely just going to stop after finishing off Endwalker's post-MSQ on my new guy. Might not even buy DT, unless the patches end up being legitimately good.

Everything the woke touches inevitably turns to shit. You'd think with how much backlash there's been towards wokeshit that Yoshi wouldn't bend the knee so damn hard, but here we are.

I think I heard that Square cut a deal with Sweet Baby a while back; it would certainly explain the drop in quality.

Fuck it. I would rather go back to Elpis for an entire expansion than suffer through more DT. Or let us go back to the First again or something. Somewhere Wuk Lamat cannot follow.
She wouldn't have to, we'll just get her unsundered form or the First's shard instead.

Then she'll "is that a rift in reality?" and follow us anyway.

It will be enough for everyone else to go “you know what maybe Meteion is right just let the final days happen.”

With the responses Yoshi P has given regarding Wuk I'm very close to simply letting my sub lapse and losing my house.
That dumb house is the only reason I haven't unsubbed yet. It may only be a small plot, but it's premium poolside Goblet property in a semi-active ward. It's gonna hurt to lose the days of work I put into the interior, but if 7.1 doesn't show any progress towards correcting this trainwreck of a story, I think I'm just gonna have to suck it up and pull the plug.
I'm still quite proud of what I managed to pull off though. So, before I lose it, I'll show it off here.
Pictures that I took pre-graphical update are in the spoiler tags below. Hopefully those tags keep the images contained because they are quite large.

Yoshi P doubling down on Wuk is so baffling considering how much the Japanese fans despise her and have been pretty vocal about their hatred of the character. It’s not like the backlash is isolated to certain sections of the community, the hate for her is pretty much everywhere across the board.

I have no idea how you'd even start to "fix" Wuk Lamat. I mean, Alphinaud in ARR was a poncy naíve little shit who tried to fix big problems with ideals which led to the Scions disbanded and a major character (potentially several, at the time) killed off before getting redeemed in Heavensward. But at least he had some backstory we cared about being Louisoix's grandson, and it was in the context of a larger conflict. Even if they tried to do the same with Wuk Lamat she's just too entwined with the general yawnfest "good vibes" of Dawntrail to fit anywhere else.

Like the "Majima Everywhere" system, except replace the occasional humor of a one-eye Japanese man ambushing you in the streets with the toxicity of a tranny furry being as obnoxious as possible. Wuk Lamat Everywhere.

"Got you now, Meteor-chan!"

Yoshi P doubling down on Wuk is so baffling

This is what makes it so absurd; everyone hates her, but the devs are continuing to use her. Unless they're planning on killing her off, or otherwise making a very hard attempt to fix her - somehow - then I genuinely can't see why you'd keep her on. Even from a business deal, whatever they've got from their DEI consultants can't be worth this.

She's like Ava from Borderlands 3; toxic little cunt that destroys the plot with her attitude.

I have no idea how you'd even start to "fix" Wuk Lamat.

I'm honestly not sure it is possible to fix her; she's got nothing we could really build off, and even if the devs managed to actually make the character likable, the amount of damage DT's already done is... well, I'll be surprised if FFXIV is able to jump back. To say nothing of Wuk's voice actor going off on rants on his/her(?) Twitter and attacking the fans; you'd think that would be grounds for termination, but no...

Big of autism here, but; I find it fitting that Wuk Lamat is a Hrothgar with the Warrior job. Hrothgar characters have a tendency to be the biggest degenerates in the game, thanks to furries. Meanwhile, Warrior is the job used by Meteor in ARR's trailers and such; fitting for someone who got shoved into the main character position.

As someone who plays Hroth characters and was considering giving the Warrior job another shot, I am... less than pleased.

We're definitely not getting rid off Wuk Lamat before 7.3 at the earliest.
I fear Yoshi P having had his "Jar Jar is the key to all of thjs" moment when making plans for the next 10 years of FF14

I might be a bit biased towards mood lighting and verdant partitions, but that's a pretty baller pad. Love the color scheme and hell ya Kojin NPCs. Tbh housing is prolly my fav part of the game, but I'm always too scared to go for more unconventional 'home' approaches, so my house is 2 floors of basic bitch. I got a bit weird in the basement, but that's about it.

The DT zones are really nice but I’m only up to the level 93 quests and already tired of the plot. Everyone we meet is so stupid and incompetent to the point where I’m surprised their societies are able to function at all. I feel less like I’m taking part in and learning about cultures and more like I’m a pre school teacher wrangling toddlers and teaching them to share toys. At least Bakool Ja Ja is a fun character that elevates every cutscene he appears in.

He's easily the only new character I gave even a remote shit about. Not enough to redeem the expansion but Bakool Ja Ja is still pretty fun at points. Plus he spends most of DT trying to kill Wuk which is what I wanted to do myself.

Legitimately amazed how universal this reaction was. Usually when game stories go to shit, they'll just enter a period of relative decline where it just gets more divisive and polarising. (Something like Stormblood comes to mind). DT just leaps off the cliff entirely.

Good job, Hiroi, you hack.
