Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Being a pocket healer can be pretty handy sometimes too, if frustrating when the actual healers aren't doing their damn jobs.

Funnily enough, the "pocket healer" aspect of RDM is the reason why I hesitate playing the job. I mentioned this a few pages ago here (p. 646), but it feels like people's brains just shut off in FFXIV when they see a RDM in the party; I've seen healers refuse to revive players because "the RDM will get them up" and that therefore means that healers don't need to do it... somehow. There's this portion of the community that seems to think that Verraise is this crutch ability that automatically carries fights, and that RDMs that don't use it are "toxic" or some shit; I've seen people lose it when RDM got a small damage increase back in Endwalker, because it would "take away from (Red Mage's) niche as the support caster". It's ridiculous, honestly; people think Verraise makes RDM immune to criticism... even when they're trying to repeatedly slow cast it, then die and bitch about content being "too hard".

How's Viper currently? I main Reaper for Melee DPS, but I've been considering switching to Viper some time down the line. Also been thinking about giving Machinist another go.

I also play all 4 healers although I play Sage and Scholar the most.
I'm still maining SCH. I know it isn't the most interesting job, but I enjoy the toolkit it gets and the general playstyle.

Got tips for someone trying to get into healing? I tried out Sage a while back, but I couldn't play it very well; failed the tutorial quest multiple times, one time I passed it was a fluke. I've been thinking about either giving Sage another go, or trying out White Mage, since the later seems to be a bit more "friendly" for people learning how to heal.

But useful since I can still swiftrez teammates when healer is on cooldown so I tolerate it.

Wait, Summoner can still resurrect people? Genuinely didn't know that; never tried the job myself as of yet, probably should sooner or later...

Got any complaints about jobs right now?
Seething over how fucking garbage black mage is and Yoshi's answer to just scaling all the jobs to be in line with PCT because he doesn't want to nerf "the new job" despite nerfing Viper's gameplay into the dirt a week after release.

PCT getting the protected class treatment. Instead of balancing it out properly, let's just make everyone stronk like PCT. Yoshi's brainrot is showing.

Last I checked, Viper is nowhere near meta DPS in terms of parse, but they're not (always) bottom of the barrel either, so take that as you will if you're planning to play for performance reasons.

Otherwise, I just like playing Viper. It's fun. It's rotation feels like it has a nice flow (even if they did slightly nerf it – yes, I consider it a slight nerf).

My problematic take is that I didn't care for the debuff that functionally was not even a debuff and more of a self-buff that only works for you and you alone while it occupies space on the enemy's status bar.

Yeah, since it's a base skill of the Arcanist jobs! It's really handy.

SMN is a pretty braindead job to get right. Cycle through your summons, spam the AOE or ST button depending, then do it all again. Hit your extra damage buttons for Bahamut/Phoenix when they pop up. Rez idiots as needed. Not much else going on. There's a few other skills in there but frankly they're tangential to your function as the job.

I sound like I hate the job but really it's not that bad. Just the fact I'm not big on DPS as a role to begin with I think. SMN is thematically pretty cool I just wish the summons were still full Carbuncle-esque pets like they apparently used to be long before I started playing.

I'm still pretty new myself so maybe I shouldn't be giving advice, but:

With SCH, at least, the main thing to keep in mind is that you are more about predicting damage vs reacting to damage ala White Mage. Your mitigation skills are best used when you have awareness of what's about to come so you can get shields/soil/expedience/etc in place for the moments that need them.

I just keep using the same jobs I always do as I get overwhelmed gearing up multiple ones and learning a whole bunch of playstyles at once. I started leveling BRD recently because it’s a decently fun job and the peloton speed boost is helpful in large zones you can’t use mounts in. I also do SMN when I want to turn my brain off.

What's everyone maining in terms of jobs, currently? You guys using the same jobs you always have, or are you trying something new? Got any complaints about jobs right now?

I've been thinking about giving Red Mage another go, but it doesn't seem to be doing so hot in DT; any suggestions? I love how it looks and plays, but it doesn't feel as strong as the other magic jobs at this point...
Graduated from RPR to VPR when DT launched cause it's just so much crazy fast weaving, and it was plain to see that RPR had fallen way behind in DPS comparatively. Still leveled it to 100 cause I like it anyways. Other than that, GNB is my tank of choice.

The Tank's HP doesn't need to be full at all times unless you're in a Healer Solo Duty.
Your oGCD heals are much more important than your GCD ones.
Don't overcap your Lilies (WHM) or Addersgall (SGE).
If you're a Shield Healer, use your shield on tankbusters and big raidwides.
If you're a Regen Healer, use your party regen after a big raidwide and dump one of your instant heals on the tank after a tankbuster.

Healing dungeons is as much the Tank's job as it is yours, if they aren't mitigating you'll unfortunately need to use your GCD single-target heals. If you've got a Warrior who knows what Bloodwhetting is, you can attack as much as you want.

I really liked DRK when I got back into the game in ShB but it really got axed hard when I returned and DT came out, simply switched to WAR and now I play Doom W2W because WAR.
BLM was my first and starting class, I really liked how it played in ShB lv80. Love it even more at 100! Also picked up WHM because I wanted to try out healing and its fun and challenging if things aren't going along with the usual glue eaters. Sadly also have to look after them like children. Very different depending on dung/party.
There's times where its just a competent tank and 2 floor tank DPS's and sometimes I simply just focus on the tank if the DPS's are beyond help. Raises cost Mana, and I need it.
Thin Air is a blessing that is NOTICED & missed when LVL sync happens and other horrible instances I happen to get dragged into.
Considering picking up Machinist as first phys ranged and also currently mid-60ish Dragoon when I renew my sub

If you have a Warrior who knows not only what Bloodwhetting is, but how to cycle their CDs, you are there solely to heal the rest of the party (outside of wall to wall. Usually.)

Suffered the MSQ as Dark Knight. Didn't enjoy how it felt at 100, so I switched to GNB and decided to main it as a tank. Healer: Sage. Only one at 100 at the moment. Reaper is my current DPS job close to 100

Officially in DT now. The post EW msq patches were meh, they were far more boring than offensively bad. Zero didn’t annoy me much as I thought and I really don’t have any strong feelings about the character. The post msq would have been a lot better as a set of trials instead. As I said before the Pandaemonium raid plot is so much more interesting than the post msq patches and what I’ve seen of DT.

Yeah, that was my impression too for the most part. They weren't bad enough to be upset over. Yet just bad enough to not be very compelling. I did enjoy the trials for those patches though.
I feel like there's a different experience for people like us three who did the whole set (half on my part) in one go. I can only imagine how soul-sucking the experience would be if you had to do it all one patch at a time - I mean, it made me quit until DT. It's boring, but it's not insultingly boring if you're going to go through with it in a few sittings.

With that said... I really hope that they don't put the other trials in the MSQ this time. It makes it feel like there's less going on, and you could feel the story starting to groan from the strain.

I've been maining Gunbreaker. It's not Warrior, but I enjoy the DPS feel, especially using Continuation's slightly increased range while moving away from AoEs, feels like a really tactical move even though it's pretty simple.

I tried running Savage with a static for a while and usually had to end up running MT because we couldn't find a second tank to help out, which could be pretty painful since I'm not that experienced a tank. The group kinda fell apart but it felt nice seeing my 99% parse for healing just by virtue of being a maintank GNB.

Aside from that, I tried Viper because I like watching the goofy naruto run on my Elezen, but it can't beat watching them try and do a giraffe front flip so back to Ninja I go.

Been enjoying my little foray into PVP for the most part. I know it's not much of an achievement but this felt pretty good when it popped up.

SCH plays like a completely different job in CC/FL. It's taking me a while to get into the mindset of it. But it's kind of a fun challenge, and hey! I finally found a game mode where I'm better than my husband which is a victory in and of itself!

Tuliollal is beautiful and as much as I love the map design not just being a flat open plain it’s such a pain to navigate even with the aetherites. I don’t know why but moving around in this city feels a lot more sluggish compared to the big cities of previous expansions.

I was surprised I didn't get my threatening email and just realized house demolitions are suspended on US territories. Hopefully I can comfortably wait until 7.1 release.

Nice to see you're having fun.
But if one does PVP for the rewards only (like me), a single Frontline a day consistently for a few weeks can get you pretty far on the reward track with minimal effort, even if I loathe the ice map.

Wait. They are?

Fuck. I could've refrained from logging in even more.
