Being a pocket healer can be pretty handy sometimes too, if frustrating when the actual healers aren't doing their damn jobs.
Funnily enough, the "pocket healer" aspect of RDM is the reason why I hesitate playing the job. I mentioned this a few pages ago here (p. 646), but it feels like people's brains just shut off in FFXIV when they see a RDM in the party; I've seen healers refuse to revive players because "the RDM will get them up" and that therefore means that healers don't need to do it... somehow. There's this portion of the community that seems to think that Verraise is this crutch ability that automatically carries fights, and that RDMs that don't use it are "toxic" or some shit; I've seen people lose it when RDM got a small damage increase back in Endwalker, because it would "take away from (Red Mage's) niche as the support caster". It's ridiculous, honestly; people think Verraise makes RDM immune to criticism... even when they're trying to repeatedly slow cast it, then die and bitch about content being "too hard".
How's Viper currently? I main Reaper for Melee DPS, but I've been considering switching to Viper some time down the line. Also been thinking about giving Machinist another go.
I also play all 4 healers although I play Sage and Scholar the most.
I'm still maining SCH. I know it isn't the most interesting job, but I enjoy the toolkit it gets and the general playstyle.
Got tips for someone trying to get into healing? I tried out Sage a while back, but I couldn't play it very well; failed the tutorial quest multiple times, one time I passed it was a fluke. I've been thinking about either giving Sage another go, or trying out White Mage, since the later seems to be a bit more "friendly" for people learning how to heal.
But useful since I can still swiftrez teammates when healer is on cooldown so I tolerate it.
Wait, Summoner can still resurrect people? Genuinely didn't know that; never tried the job myself as of yet, probably should sooner or later...
