Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Husband and I just cleared the Vauthry fight.

Was kind of hoping we'd see another hilarious tardrage scene from the deathfat like he did when Alphinaud delivered that sick burn way back in the first visit to Eulmore, but instead all he did was whine about how daddy told him he was a super special boy after having chugged an entire bottle of fantasia to make himself look cooler mid-raid.

Felt kind of bad for Graha. Dude went to all the effort of concocting this elaborate plan with all that secrecy only for Emet to pop out of nowhere and just shoot him with a fucking gun. Wish degenerates hadn't ruined any positive opinions I might've felt towards catbro, I actually did like him back in the post-ARR stuff.

We called it a night after reaching Tempest so maybe we'll get more Emety goodness when we continue tomorrow evening. Easily my favorite villain so far.

The Students of Baldesion yet again show themselves to be the worst of the BA organisers on the european side of the community by neglecting to raise their Spirit Dart user.

Not my screenshot, this was sent to me by a friend who used to play on Crystal.
My EB now owes me 2 million gil because I won the bet that they would wipe to a Black Hole instead of to the enrage like last time.

Our duo just got the first set of credits in Shadowbringers! We've got a lot more to do before EW I'm sure, but we're gonna intentionally slow down our progression a bit now that we're getting further into the overall currently available content.

I don't want us to finish everything and hit DT too quickly because I know it'll kill our enthusiasm and possibly be the end of our Eorzean adventures together. Which will be bittersweet because we've had a lot of enjoyment working through the game as a couple.

Pacing is king when it comes to stories.

I feel like my major gripe with Stormblood was, as previously stated, that I didn't feel like we had enough time for Doma to flesh out its setting and earn me giving a shit about it before things there came to a head. That has not been the case in ShB; Aside from one or two notable but brief parts, they did an excellent job of pacing out the story of the First.

I genuinely liked a lot of the supporting cast and side characters; from Chai and his fatass wife with a cholestorol-clogged heart of gold, to the trolley-loving autists of Amh Araeng, I cared about seeing them live because we spent enough time in each zone for them to feel like actual characters and not just set pieces. The worldbuilding was very pleasant.

Emet-Selch's plot arc was pure kino. He was a ton of fun as a villain and gave the Ascians some much needed background details that make our previous interactions with them a lot more interesting. I'm glad they've got some motivation beyond just being spooky scary shadow people with edgy attitudes.

I was also really happy Ardbert got to play a role in delivering the final blow alongside WoL by handing over his axe/stabilizing the contaminated light. The final shot we get of him walking up to the ghosts of his party in Crystarium was a fitting end for our counterpart from another world.

Out of all the story raids we've done so far, I'd say two of my three favorites have been in Shadowbringers. The mechanics have felt a lot more rewarding; It's cool to think about how far the content design has come since the basic bitch raids of ARR. The Dying Gasp and The Dancing Plague are definitely raids I'm planning to run again just because they're really enjoyable to play.

The story dungeons, meanwhile, were... Okay. I didn't dislike any of them in particular, but a lot of the mid-bosses especially felt simplistic. Only a couple of the story dungeon bosses really required any significant effort. The overall dungeon designs themselves were pretty good but I don't think any of them reached the level needed to dethrone my favorite dungeons from HW or SB like Great Gubal Library or The Burn.

We've decided we're both going to level new jobs and swap roles, to freshen things up before we hit EW. He's gonna run healer this time and I'll be tank; We thought about having one of us go DPS but we *really really* like the faster queue times we get as a healer-tank combo.

This'll be a fun new experience for me! I'm virtually always running healer in MMOs I play, and while I've done DPS before I'm more or less completely new to tank. Does anyone have job recommendations for us?

If you want absolutely braindead options, White Mage and Warrior are both the easiest jobs to get into. You generally can solo most MSQ content as WAR if need be.

Personal preferences are SGE or AST for healing and GNB or PLD. But all roles work just fine and it just comes down to aesthetics, really. DRK is really the only one I wouldn't recommend if you weren't running w/ a healer, just because it lacks self-sustain like the other 3 tank jobs.

Also, you should be fine with queues if one of you are running healer or tank, if one of you wanted to do DPS. You should still get instant or near instant queues.

If you're really new to tank, play Warrior. You're essentially your own party in case things go WAY south. Your main mitigation doesn't have as much pure damage reduction, but you have multiple self heals. Also, FELL CLEAVE!

Paladin is also pretty beginner-friendly with an emphasis on balancing the Physical and Magic phase

Gunbreaker and Dark Knight lean more into being off-tanks(former is WORLDS more reliable than the latter). Meaning, they CAN take the brunt of the damage, but they would rather tag in when needed. Heavier on damage than defensive capabilities. (Square Enix pls, make DRK tanks again)

slow down our progression
The last piece of worthwhile content in this game is unlocked when you finish 6.1.
Have you tried out Deep Dungeons yet? You need to do floor 50 of the Palace of the Dead to be able to unlock the other 2 for some reason.
Eureka's fun and going in as a pair is probably the only way to level up in a party without having to leave for stupid instance-based exp reasons.
I've sperged about Bozja before in this thread. Do it.
The Zodiac and Anima relics are a decent timesink and a nice status symbol.

You can also farm old expansions' EX Trial mounts (and also old savages, though EW requires braincells still) unsynced. I'd recommend buying some crafted gear for your job to be at the highest IL you can be to heavily increase your damage and also allow you to get into elitists' PFs. Hell, the mount for getting all of the Shadowbringers EX mounts is a two-seater! Imagine the screenshots you can take on that together.

and while I've done DPS before I'm more or less completely new to tank. Does anyone have job recommendations for us?
Tanks don't have that much responsibility outside of savage/ultimate raiding. They're basically DPSes with mitigation buttons instead of party buffs.
I'd recommend Warrior if you're new to the role and want to learn it since Bloodwhetting will remind you how important it is to use your 25s mit whenever you can to be literally immortal in trash packs. If you want to DPS, Viper's pretty easy to pick up and isn't as braindead as Summoner is since you have positionals to hit and your Awakening gauge.
Bozja is a great place to level from 71-81, by the way.

Just because I'm curious, have you done the Eternal Bonding ceremony yet? You can do it for free if you pick the lowest tier and you get a ring that allows you to teleport to your spouse's side at any time provided you're both on the same world, not in an instance, and not in a building. If you pick the middle or highest tier, you get a 2seater mount as well and can dye the wedding outfit.

Damn you learn something new everyday. Didn't know there were tiers to getting married ingame.

If I ever become degenerate enough to get in-game married, either this is my wedding song or that marriage is going to be REAL FUCKING SHORT
You can also make the groom hold the bouquet. Or you could do what I did which was that I put on the suit and my buddy who asked me to marry him put on the dress LOL

The description of the ring also tells you what date you got married.

Got all of my DOH/DOL and 6 or so other classes to 100. Taking a break til the next patch and praying the FFXI raid lives up to my hype.

Yeah, he's leaning towards AST for his healer job because the cards and aesthetic are pretty neat. We're gonna try and not use the two classes we've been running so far, which is the only reason I don't just go GNB.

I'm gonna give Warrior a try, I think. It sounds pretty fun from the videos I watched just now. Thanks for the recommendations guys!

Not yet! I wasn't aware there was a free option, and paying real money for some fake in-game wedding shit was unappealing. I might have the pair of us do the free option just for the teleport rings. Thanks for letting me know there's a freebie version!

No problem. I like giving advice to people who sound like they genuinely want to have fun and are enjoying the game.

This has been possible since 5.2.

I've been taking dawntrail nice and slow and doing other stuff inbetween, so I am only half-way through the MSQ. I do need to say that so far after having changed from English to German, not only the VA but the whole game, it really hasn't been that bad so far. While not the best writing, it has come across far less childish than the English writing, of course there are still childish parts but it hasn't been worse than other expansions. The Voice Acting is pretty decent, especially the weirdness in mixing that is present in the English version is not present. The story has been basic and repetitive, however there are some pretty good spots, especially with Koana, Thancred and Urianger. These scenes really made me feel like I'd rather have followed that story than Wuk Lamat, however Wuk Lamat, as a character, still comes across more likelable in German than in English and there were points where she was okay just the fact that everything in the universe bends to her will and the entire rite is basically tailor made for her, makes the story come across as so much less than it could have been. The idea of the rite and the search for the city of gold is a really fun idea to base an expansion on and have it be some actual general adventuring, which is what I looked forward to. However, I don't think I ever felt less like I was adventuring than in the first half of dawntrail.

Is Dawntrail worth playing if you don't give a fuck about the story anymore? My girlfriend gifted it to me but I haven't gotten around to starting it, and I haven't watched a cutscene since ShB. She beat the MSQ for DT the other day and said she lost interest about 1/3rd of the way in. I kinda wanna do the eventual FFXI raids, but I only went as far as finishing the .1 patch of EW and I tried to log in the other day and got bored before I even left my house.
