Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

I have no friends though and if I caved and did it with randoms, they'd just rush through everything instead of checking rooms for chests. I'm in a discord that organizes deep dungeon runs, but they are more in it for clears than grip farming.
It's possible, it's just the time sink I'm dreading.

You should be able to set up some grips runs through PF.

If you're doing clears to 200, though, it might be worth hopping onto a few of those as you'll accumulate aetherpool pretty rapidly. At the bare minimum you'll get +10/+10 and you'll be able to loot silvers along the way, too.

E: And on leveling jobs, it is pretty easy to just naturally level everything slow and steady. Do MSQ on jobs you're trying out/are newb with, dungeons/roulettes on healers/tanks, and do the Alliance/Frontline on DPS/whatever.

BLU is easy to level to max in like an hour, too if you have someone helping.

The real meat with BLU is to get all of the spells which is a long task in and of itself.

On a side note, think that for the time being I'm done with this game, let my sub expire 2 weeks ago.

I played this for a long time and did a lot of side content in this game like Deep Dungeon solo, Triple Triad for the card mount, etc., and leveled every job (yes, both crafter/gatherer and combat ones) back in Endwalker to 90 but Dawntrail's overall lackluster environment along with the Wuk Lamat cocksucking and staff retardation sucked all interest in the general game out for me. Couldn't even be bothered to finish the 7.1 MSQ past the dungeon.

I'm just one person who actually plays this game in the massive sea of degenerates who sub and keep this game floating just to ERP, Groom 'n Goon and do retarded nightclub shit, but even then I refuse to give SE my money any further until they actually come up with some good stuff again and purge Kate and all the other DEI-influence out. Got plenty of retro games to sink my teeth into to fill the gap.

It's frustrating because I'll play older content like Shadows of Mhach or Sorrows of Werlyt and think to myself, hey this game has some really fun storylines.

Then I'll remember my struggles just to make myself finish Dawntrail and realize that I'm just seeing the ghosts of what was once a really cool game.

Still, you think the Four Lords would've chosen something less... conspicuous.
They did this because apparantly they aren't able to turn into humanoid form (Other than Suzaku, but that comes with its own issues), so the closest that they could do without alerting the entire continent of Othard to the fact that they're real is stuff themselves into furry costumes.

btw seiryu appeared in the 2023 heavensturn event in that bunny outfit provided you have that specific quest completed

That storyline would never be done now.
Gaius Baelsar as a character would never exist period in modern FFXIV. God forbid there be actual nuance to an antagonist.

Ishikawa is a legitimately good writer and I wish her all the best. I'm sure whatever she's working on is better quality than Dawntrail's mess.

What quest is that?
Tataru's Grand Endeavor, the Four Lords one.
It's called "An Auspicious Opportunity", and it requires doing "Small Business, Big Dreams" (The unlock for the Tataru Endeavors), and "The Fifth Lord" (The quest that finishes off the Four Lords questline after you do the Seiryu trial.)
The other ones require doing the Mhach quests and the Werlyt quests.

If I don't see Yasulaani Station get a make-over after completing the new deliveries, I'm going to strangle something.
I've been dying to see it turn into something more than just being a aethernet point

I'm not getting my hopes up after seeing the stairs NOT get repaired during the pelu pelu tribe quests

Gaius would be a one dimensional evil racist colonizer if he was written now. It doesn’t help that Kate is the current localizer, and she’s a complete libshit.

I’m sure it will be. She’s one of the rare female writers that can write a story men like, which is shocking.

The new patch's hildibrand stinger breaks the fourth wall.

The quest's decent and not nearly as hammy as the previous ones.

That's part of the reason why I haven't jumped back into FFXIV myself as of yet; I want to give the game another go, get a character fully caught upon content, but... Dawntrail is just shit. I'll probably end up waiting a bit longer to see if the game continues on the downward spiral; if it manages to improve, then I might hop back in, but otherwise...

That storyline would never be done now. We can only have watered down stories about food and friendship! This game noticeably got worse once Ishikawa stopped writing. Hopefully she’s at least working on something, like FFXVII.
Reminder that Smile and its inclusion in the 'we're going to create a death train' was at the direction of Ishikawa.

I was kinda floored when I read that revelation.

I still think that there was a lack of oversight due to BU3 being split and with the narrative team wanting to try something new (and not succeeding.) I'm reserving judgment until 7.3, but good grief is it trying.

The localization shit is also an issue. I really wish I had a better grasp of Japanese and could parse/compare things better because I really get the sense that the prior localization lead was more interpretative and looser with the translations whereas Kate is an autistic 1:1 translator (except for when it is convenient for her not to do so.)

I honestly don't now if it is stemming from new writers or new localization (or both.) But the tone, language choice, etc. in DT was very jarring. There's this glut of what I can only really describe as contemporary conversational writing, much like how a Millennial would speak.

Okay so managed to Get Wuk Lamat to become a dawnservant gotta say theres a good story in this arc but its bogged down by hyper focusing on Wuk Lamat. Apparently from what ive been told the real story of Dawntrail kicks into high gear going forward. Honestly im looking forward more to the Hildribrand Quests and the Alliance raid(RGB Tower) more than the main story itself.

Rate me dumb/optimistic but for all the shit I've talked I don't really see myself jumping ship permanently at least for the next couple years. As a pretty new player (~2 years) I still enjoy the game and hanging out in it dipping my toe into Savage every now and then, and I just can't see myself getting into any of XIV's competitors for a similar experience.
I'll wait and see how quickly 7.3 pivots away from Tural but as long as they introduce some kind of conflict after the "vacation arc" I can't believe 8.0 won't be an improvement at least in terms of story with CBU3 back in swing.

Story aside the two big issues I feel Dawntrail reveals is 1. the talent pool is not particularly deep, and the thing we've taken for granted (good writing) can and will disappear at a moment's notice when put in the hands of hacks, which, call me a negative nancy but that's something I've had to learn with every franchise, and 2. the actual game is just getting plain tired. This was already true in Endwalker copying the Shadowbringers formula, but now that the main story is over and people have less to keep them engaged long-term everyone I've talked to just seems tired. Endwalker was a good time to play it safe, this wasn't. For me the biggest issue with Dawntrail is that it's styled as a "new beginning" but ended up being more of the same with worse writing.
I don't see either of these issues changing any time soon, but I also know MMOs can fall a lot further than a shit story. Until Square starts flogging AetherCrystals™ for max ilevel gear boosts I'll probably keep subbing in every few months like a good niggercattle.
