You’re both misinformed. Both of the flops you’ve attributed to Nomura (FFXV and Third Birthday) were actually directed by the same guy, Hajime Tabata, who was ran out of SE after XV proved to be a critical failure.

Nomura deserves criticism for how he’s handled KH over the years, but FF fans have a bad habit of blaming him for things he had nothing to do with. No idea who’s responsible for FF7 devolving into multiverse slop though. There’s like 5 different people you can point fingers at, but primarily I think the issue is that nobody is willing to reign in the main writer, Nojima.

If you don't like the WoL additions, cool, the original exists. If you like WoL, that exists too. Why give money for a lazy recut of a game that doesn't serve the basic role of at least being a definitive edition of the title by including everything we already have?

People tend to have real rose colored glasses for WOTL though. More guest characters that don't belong, worse dialogue, two new half baked classes, and ran like absolute dogshit on native hardware (which "couldn't be fixed ever" officially, but of course the hacked PSPs could run an unofficial fix patch). It's horrendous and belongs in the garbage.

There's nothing in WOTL that I'd really want brought over and having the dialogue be voiced and less dense is the best thing they can do for FFT.

It is identitcal to SCH, which in turn is identical to WHM and AST but instead of "Applies a regen for X potency of Y seconds" it says "Applies a shield for X potency of Y seconds"
Gameplay is pressing 1-1-1-1-1-1 for 99% of the fight with an occasional (note: legally distinct from Whispering Dawn and Celestial opposition because this one is blue) Physis oGCD cast to heal everyone to full HP on a 60 second cooldown.

Yes. It's my favorite healer. Everything works together well.

I don't know when you last played it but DT gave SGE Philosophia which is like a party-wide Kardia that that lasts for 20s, boosts healing by 20% and procs on any GCD spell including heals.

The biggest problem with SGE is that your oGCDs are strong and your GCDs are not, and then you'd get doubly fucked if you ran out of cooldowns and had to resort to GCD heals because your Kardia wasn't proccing anymore.

If I need to play melee, I usually pick VPR at this point. It just flows so nicely with the DT encounter design. I love NIN, its my "main" job if I ever had one, but I can't stomach playing it in DT. It feels very nice when stuff just flows, but you need to hold back burst so often or do awkward windows because the boss happens to jump away 64 seconds into the encounter or you need to detach or whatever. VPR doesn't care, it can just shift its powerful moves around a lot.
Would I prefer playing NIN or any job that has meat to it? Sure. Would that even remotely work with the DDR obsession the developers have? Imo no.

Well, at least it sounds like a good job to jump into healing with; I'm not someone who usually plays a healer in games, but since I was needing a healer in FFXIV for the Job Quests and such - because I actually do enjoy some of the story of SHB and END - I figured Sage would be a good choice. It comes out the box at 70, which admittedly helps the leveling process.

I have heard that Sage was admittedly fairly easy to get into once you get some practice, which is ideal for me; I'm someone who's IQ is in the negatives, so having a more simplistic job is honestly good. Yes, I do suck at playing healer; in my defense, I prefer and main DPS roles any other time, so healing is genuinely new to me.

Outside of this, I still do want to figure out what my other jobs are for Role Quest stuff; Warrior is the Tank, obviously, though I'm having some issues with DPS roles ironically enough. Mainly Magic; been thinking about giving Pictomancer a shot, though RDM is admittedly decent as well. Melee and Ranged are more because I kinda like all of them equally, I just can't pick which one I like the most.

Last played Sage was around 6.2, I think? Really never did much with it, but I'd like to give it a proper go now.

He also supposedly wanted ff7 remake to be a straight remake, but higher up suits wanted the multiverse stuff. Nomura has issues, but I am unsure he deserves hatred for the way the remakes turned out. That's what I heard once anyway.

it wouldn't surprise me if this is true, SE routinely makes very terrible decisions and they rely very heavily on their handful of senior project leads that are proven to actually get shit done. Nomura is one of their most senior guys at this point and as much as I think his output fucking sucks, other people seem to like it a lot. however, as I understand it, Kingdom Hearts was his baby and all of the FF7 Remake trilogy's retardation deeply parallels that franchise. KH is basically an exercise in keeping retards in suspense; every character is actually three characters, the main bad guy is the good guy is actually the bad guy and the good guy fused together, separated into three different people, and then one of the good guys who turns into a bad guy is actually a good guy, but still kind of bad...? Remake's confused half-committal to Aeris' death stinks of executives being afraid to alienate people, but given how much Remake's retcons track with Nomura's brand of bullshit, like metaphorical plot devices becoming actual physical mcguffins, I sincerely doubt he was simply a victim of the management's stupidity.

as somebody who's been maining BLM since 2.2, it's definitely not lobotomized. the skill floor dropped a bit, sure, and it's not nearly as hairy as 3.0 BLM was, but the skill ceiling remains quite high, especially compared to pretty much every other job which simply requires you to memorize a burst rotation and execute it robotically every 2 minutes. all the bullshit the Balance nerds cope about with "nonstandard lines" and being able to niche optimize are like a 0.1% DPS gain in 0.01% of situations. I was very skeptical of the changes too but this savage tier is the most fun I've had on BLM in years. now hopefully they add some actually cool shit in the next expansion, like Dark/Death/Comet or something, because BLM hasn't gotten a true glow-up since fuckin Fire IV.

SGE is certainly the easiest healer once you get good at it, especially in 4-mans.

Typically the biggest mistake I see with new healers is trying to make sure everyone is at 100% at all times and this is especially bad with SGE because you're the worst at taking health bars to full. You blow through a lot of time and MP trying to do that. Trust your shields and regens to put in some work.

I'd unironically take additional deep dungeons or even a roguelike mode, additional jobs, and maybe the shitload of multi-player challenge maps as normal maps. Tactics is one of those games that would work really well with a roguelike mode where you start with shitty units and gear and have to make due with what you can get. Bonus points for your gear getting destroyed or stolen actually setting you back.

I also don't know how much I enjoy grinding to get each of your many units the full kit you want for them. I kind of think an alternate game mode where every mission gives you a jp budget would be kind of cool.

I don't mean to shamelessly shill for something, but after playing through tactics and realizing it had some jank, such as arithmeticians being a win button or some unlock conditions being shit, like for dark knight, or that there is constant pressure to equip jp boost instead of actually buildcrafting with your units, I went looking for romhacks of tactics and found what may be my favorite hack ever, called tactics tweak. Almost every aspect of the game was buffed or nerfed, earlier jobs remain viable, advanced jobs are still powerful, but dont make earlier jobs redundant, all multi-player items for wotl are available in game, jp boost for all units, finer balancing, almost everything related to gameplay revamped without ever going so far that it doesn't feel like the same game. I recently played through wotl, and then immediately after, tried this hack, and I think it is the better way to play the game. If you do look it up, read the readme for a list of changes.

Hopefully this remake of the game affects the romhack scene. Unlikely, but I can dream.

I discovered the FFT arena thing on Twitch during the pandemic and it kinda plays to this -- randomly generated characters fight each other in a tournament. You can cheese it a bit by paying in-game money to roll as certain jobs, have certain skills/gear but it's an amusing diversion here and there.

I'm going to try to keep that in mind; problem is, I... may have some perfectionist tendencies. Can't help it, I see someone injured, my first instinct is "HEAL!", and not just in MMOs. It doens't help that I had some issues with Sage back when I first unlocked it; failed the intro quest three times because I couldn't figure out how the job worked, my Eukrasia buff (the one that you place on an ally and do damage to heal them) kept dropping at random times, and the enemies would do seemingly-random damage to the NPC I was supposed to protect. No joke, they'd go from half-health to dead; dunno if it was a glitch or my internet fucking up (again) but it was annoying.

Anyway, I'll be sure to give the job another go if/when I hop back on; I want to figure out what the rest of the jobs I'll be running first, then go from there.

No joke, they'd go from half-health to dead; dunno if it was a glitch or my internet fucking up (again) but it was annoying.

It's scripted so that you need to use Eukrasian Diagnosis when the game tells you to otherwise the NPC dies.
