Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

I would argue that Calyx still has something up his sleeve.
I should hope not because my first impression isn't good and I've already had my fill of him.
I'm fine if he gets relegated to being the observer to events who makes spiteful quips pertaining to current events while he prays for our downfall but please, if he does some kind of ass pull to try and make himself relevant again, my eyes will roll so hard that I'll be able to see my own brain. He shot his shot and he failed. Now it's time for him to step aside and let someone else have a turn.

The weakling guy who is seemingly neutered and then comes back in a grand betrayal of the main villain is a well trod Japanese trope and it does seem rather odd that such a mega genius like this guy just rolled over and showed his belly.

Well, on a positive for the patch, I have reclaimed a ton of space both on retainers and in my saddle bag. Job relic armors can now be stored in your Armoire. And with all the old individual dyes being condensed into one Standard Spectrum dye I turned in 258 of the old dyes to the Calamity Salvager into just 258 of one item. Special dyes still need the individual dyes so I can't get rid of those. But I will take everything I can to have extra space. I'll count the patch as a positive just for those facts alone.

Maxed out retainer to about half of the space free because of dye consolidation, as well as putting all the 7.X dungeon gear and gathering, crafting and combat job artifact gear into Armoire from the dresser. From those alone, this patch is rated highly in my book.

as we settle for mostly Rebuild slop.

100% they're gonna shill the fuck outta rebuild and you're gonna sit there and take it.

It's the most blatant marketing crossover yet. I'm amazed we havent gotten a Fate/Stay Night crossover since those fuckers crossover with everything.

Isn't Yoko Taro involved with some Eva stuff? I thought that was why they were marketing a buddy's shit again.

Evolved changes for combat should be good just because they're aping more from WoW which has objectively better combat, with less buttons doing more things. This is good.

What's genuinely retarded is letting players pick both options, because now they have to """balance""" twice as many styles of gameplay. So either the new style gets hamstrung by needing to be playable on the old style, or the old style is a fucking mess.

Just make jobs feel less like 111111111111 spam ass, you bastards. I'd rather put a gun in my mouth than spam Glare 99% of the time and these dumbasses wonder why nobody heals.

Having MT and OT is also retarded and there's no way it doesn't cause issues if you actually need both. And if you don't need both why call them something so stupid. Splitting healers was already a pain in the dick because you need two rare roles but also TWO DIFFERENT of those roles. Imagine now you finally get a main tank paladin or new thing and now have to sit in PF waiting for some cuck warrior to come along.

Edit: credit where it's due though getting rid of the trash tomestone system where if you missed any you were just behind forever (and letting you copy ilvl from your highest gear to all jobs) should make weekly maintenance and swapping jobs less of a complete hassle. They need to massively boost xp on alt jobs though, nigga I don't wanna spend 90 hours getting a job from 1 to 100, I will just never play it. God help you trying to dungeon queue daily for xp as a dps.

Knowing square enix, the option for legacy will remain and only be viable for old content for people who want to "go back and revisit" but moving forward it will be entirely non-viable to not use the evolved combat system, because as they stated you NEED to use it to get access to new job actions.

The problem is I can already predict they will not lock people with legacy enabled out of new content and you will have obnoxious "haha im so funny" people for a long time, much like the people who'd join endgame stuff without job stones.

Honestly what I kinda wish they would do, entirely for my own nostalgia, is add a sort of timewalking mode where you can go back and revisit old stuff with the jobs working like they did back in that expansion.

So you timewalk to SB and can do SB content while playing your job as it was in 4.5.

It wouldn't even be a significant amount of work I don't think - I am certain they have to have all the old data and animations still around, and it doesn't need to be balanced again, just freeze things as it was at the end of a given expac.

That would be a lot more interesting as a "legacy" system for revisiting old stuff I think, rather than having a "legacy" mode where you just play lv100 [insert job] forever.
And it would actually restore some of what has been lost for old content, which even when synced isn't at all the same experience just one expansion later, let alone most of a decade and several major reworks of core game systems.

Yoko Taro is writing the next Neon Genesis Evangelion anime and working closely on it. It's an anime series he's credited several times as a personal inspiration to him and now the old author is essentially passing the torch to him. It's a pretty huge deal in the anime world considering how protected the franchise has been for so long.

I don't sincerely believe that Reborn / Evolved will last beyond Evercold - it's just a way to get people "hip" to the new changes over a two year period then doing the WoW thing of making a bunch of huge changes and then going "fucking deal with it" (ex - Retribution Paladin every few patches, Hunters with a cast bar, Hunters moving to Energy instead of Mana, etc). I fully expect it to be addressed in the first fanfest keynote for 9.0 - "95% use Evolved, so we're forcing that for 9.0". It's also going to be, in essence, a public test period where they find emergent behavior if x or y activity is easier in Reborn mode, how to adapt it to Evolved mode.

You already see it in the new jobs not having a Reborn mode (and SGE/GNB/VPR/PCT having traces of it in their design) that they've been leaning this way for a while. They're clearly struggling to create new jobs in the space they've limited themselves into and have to break out of it.

Otherwise, where the FUCK is my cosmic exploration? God damn japs announcing shit for 7.5 when they actually mean 7.51 or whenever the hell else they want.
All we fucking have right now is the MSQ, one dungeon, one trial (with its ex) and the new alliance raid. Ffs I was expecting occult crescent north horn to drop at the very least.

Their ability to release minimal content on a slow as hell schedule and then wonder why they can't keep subs consistent is astounding.

Release shit for your game that isn't just 'do 700 days of roulette for tomes' like the trash relic weapons always are.

They abandoned the island content instantly which was at least something.

I got to admit, Yoshi-P mentioning he played Star Wars: Galaxies and name dropping the NGE threw me. If he knows SWG he should have no excuse for the lack of real MMO social features in FFXIV.
SWG was always the nichest of niche MMOs that survived solely on franchise power.
I would be very careful with looking towards SWG for inspiration.
SWTOR might just be Star Wars WoW, but it immediatly dwarfed peak SWG player numbers and kept being bigger than peak SWG even as it went into maintenence mode

Galaxies was a very differently made game and was also around at a very different time in MMO/Internet history.

Going off of raw sub numbers is a bit of a misnomer. There was a lot of...interesting...stuff in there. I never really played it, but people still gush about the crafting system in the same way people sperg about City of Heroes customization options. It also had some real dogshit things going on (Jedi) along with funny incidents, like GMs teleporting players into space because they were protesting in game.

Yeah all those old animations are still in the files and are basically rudimentary examples of "babies first mod"
Animation swaps.

What you are asking for is effort, even if minimal though so it will not happen, that is why they are just leaving it as-is, both to save effort and to try prevent outcry from changes, because people hate changes regardless.

Getting the B-Team Scions back kinda worries me in so far that they just might be warm bodies to waste for the "Muh Stakes" crowd since, realistically, they will never touch the core Scions. The marketing is at this point 80% Scions and 20% cute animals like moogles and chocobos. On my most recent visit to the Eorzea Cafe they added a whole slew of Scion drinks Y'shtola, Thancred and Urianger's are all with alcohol which made me laugh and you now get to pick a limited coaster of your favourite Scion on your first order. In front of the building is a Vending machine that has a life sized Y'shtola on the side and you can get Scion themed cans of softdrinks.

Speaking of marketing: What is with those completely lost collabs with camping gear shops or trendy hair dye... do they know their audience?

I have no idea, it seems to be this Japanese thing where they will collab with literally anyone and anything. I've always asked myself why because I do not see them working so well.
Like, you have to remember they have had collabs with perfume, clothing lines, Audi, Nissan, Fender, banking and mortaging companies and you could get a FF themed credit card if you signed up for specific loans, or with telecom companies that would give you deals on subscriptions if you signed up for their internet or phone packages in specific regions. I also remember a real estate company collaberation at one point. It's such a massive list that the english world actually only see's a fraction of what they collab with since many are JP only.

Like I have never seen a country with such aggressive cross-promotion, it probably clearly works but it's so... alien to me.
