I agree this is completely fucked up but it's 14 pages in and it's been mentioned a shit ton, but I gotta do it again.
Copyright does NOT equal Trademark.
The reason this is big is because it's a lot easier to prove a violation of a trademark than it is for a copyright. Well...more accurately it's easier to unknowingly violate a trademark than it is to violate a copyright.
They aren't trying to put a ban on all reaction videos through a copyright, they're just trying to take the word Reaction away from reaction videos via a trademark...Essentially, if this goes through; people can still do Reaction videos...they just have to find a new word for "React"....
Copyright does NOT equal Trademark.
Copyrights are a form of protection for the authors of "original works of authorship," like literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other creative works.
Copyright does NOT cover intellectual property such as titles, names, short phrases, and slogans; familiar symbols or designs; or mere variations of typographic ornamentation, lettering, or coloring.
A trademark protects a word, phrase, symbol or design (or a combination of these), that identifies and distinguishes the goods or services of one person or company from those of others.
