So they weren't hosting absolutely anything locally. It was all up on the Google cloud, waiting to be taken down at their whim. I guess all the archival footage and account information for every Fishtank user is being held for ransom until Sam forks over another 30k to get his Google account unsuspended. We may never see those tapes.

It's incredibly funny to see people up in arms that the producers don't want the show to end in like 5 days due to TTS or that this free viewing experience has expensive options to generate revenue.
People upset that Sam isn't having the crew beat the contestants with hammers or let TTS say "niggers did 9/11" every 10 seconds for 6 weeks straight. How dare he try to make something somewhat serious.
 
This whole situation reminds me of when for a community college IT class the teacher convinced everyone to connect credit cards to amazon web services for some activity about using cloud services. He assured all the students they wouldn't be charged because the assignment fell under the amount of resources needed to actually activate any payment plan. Like half the people in the class ended up getting charged like 10 to 50 dollars because they gave their VMs more resources than they were supposed to and left them running instead of immediately stopping/deleting them after class.

I can understand why Sam didn't want the IP2 crowd in on Fish Tank. IP2 fans are some of the most insane and destructive people on the internet. There is a reason despite it being a really cool concept it has a very tiny audience and dwindling relevancy.

  • Send out jpeg caps of the cams taken every few seconds for the overview
  • Maybe keep that going in the background in place of streaming every fucking feed at the same time silently
  • If people are confirmed sleeping maybe have some motion detection going on so it just pauses on a still frame and cuts to mic feed only

  • Don't use major cloud providers.
  • Use metal servers with generous bandwidth limits to pull the rtsp/hls stream from the master node/s and serve it at scale.
  • You can be extra Jewish and shut down servers before accruing traffic charges but it's likely too much work.
  • Use web torrent in conjunction with this to further reduce costs.
Theres also cloudflare stream.

In a small saga, Graf has made contact with the fishtank crew due to users spamming various MDE members and is presumably in talks for assistance. Graf states that he confirmed contact via bills. More developments to follow.

For the record I don't think the peer tubing thing is necessary. Pretty sure they should be piping this all to a computer in the basement, assembling it into a single security camera style feed and then streaming that at a high resolution. Then they could have the illusion of separate feeds on the front end through scripting and scaling and overlays. Doing that should cut their costs by a factor of almost 10.
