With a (questionable) W from James Drake, how would you rate season 5 of Fishtank?

  • 1 Star — Absolute disaster. Unwatchable, boring, production fucked it up bad, the fish were lame

Something I guess worth adding to the thread - during the stream Vance said he didn't in fact fall for the girlfriend gaslight, rather, his fuckup was hearing the gaslight, not believing it, and thinking it was his job to pretend as though he had fallen for it because "producers wanted" him to. But also that he was stressed that the audience would believe it and harass her.

Maybe that just makes his penultimate defeat more poetic. He would do anything the producers told him for 35k, even a long sappy public monologue to his girlfriend, when in the end the producers might have spared him if he had the balls to say "no, I won't do that because I don't believe you" like pretty much every contestant besides him had done at some point in the show. It's almost more excruciating to know he didn't believe it, because as Mauro said Vance is a person and he has the sense to say no to a bit if he doesn't want to do it, and helping to make his girlfriend sound like a whinging bitch on TV is one of those great opportunities to say no.

It's one of those final degree lies of the show - first they lie by just lying flat out, then they lie by telling the truth when you are expecting a lie, then they just tell you flat out what they want and you can't tell whether they want it or not because they want you to go with your gut.

I don't believe him. He's boring and stupid and will never be an entertainer at this rate.

One example is when a TTS asked him his favorite albums and he said he couldn't remember and needed his list from RYM. I don't think he's incredibly pretentious but he is definitely a self aware normie who woke up in 2016 and then crawled back into hiding shortly after. If Sam wasn't such a nice guy he would've destroyed him for being quiet, yet somehow over confident while fumbling every opportunity he was given. He still seems cool to hang out with though, as long as you only want to talk about baseball and music because if you brought up anything deeper he'd get shy and retreat, scared to offend anyone.
 
I think Vance's arc was the funniest.

I'm going to assume he was chosen because of his YouTube/music endeavours and probably thought this could have been his big break and got into MDE 2.

Instead, he was the most boring, beta, vanilla, mundane character on the show who suffered totally from Letty Derangement Syndrome, to the point where he was sperging out about her on his spaces. Ie he had no idea what the fuck was going on, bought the bullshit while offering nothing in response.

Then, at the end of it, he gets no gig with Jet putting out a good word on his twitter, while Letty is applauded for her acting by Sam.

Imagine the seethe.
