All ages can very easily mean broccoli headed zoomers brawling with 50 year old dads, which I think would be peak.

Fishtank is an extremely slow show with moments of activity and 99% of the commentary stuff would be just filling dead air, Sam Pepper did that hosting role during the evening but he was there to observe kills and make rulings as the referee and even then most of his air time was just nothing of note aside from the contestants shit talking him whenever they realized he was watching their streams. Most of the time the viewers immediately fled the "director" feed when he came on and went to Fousey or another contestant like Chicken Andy, Letty, Gooner, EBZ or any of the other bigger names.
for most of fishtank, yeah a host would be dead air. but given a good host this shouldn't be a problem. i can imagine that in the down time the host could interact with the chat, tell stories, make jokes,maybe give their own take to what the fish are currently talking about etc. then pipe down when something big happens. it is doable, but i doubt any of the previous fish could really handle it.
You need a competent commentator or a couple of talkative people to go back and forth during slower moments. Kiwifarms talks plenty during downtime and we update each other on major moments and speculate on what's to come which is "filling dead air." Then someone clues everyone in when something worthwhile starts happening somewhere. Someone or someones filling that role might work.
This seems like the easiest thing to fix, they could just put a mic but not cam in the bathrooms (and let Cryo listen to the sounds of pooping), or enforce a hard rule that there can't normally be more than one person in the bathroom

good point. when the fish are sleeping it is literal dead air. considering how the fish tend to develop a sleep cycle causing them to sleep through most of the morning, how those of us who work cant stay up till midnight every night, there is a lack of content for a large chunk of the available daylight hours for a sizeable section of the audience.
