With a (questionable) W from James Drake, how would you rate season 5 of Fishtank?

  • 1 Star — Absolute disaster. Unwatchable, boring, production fucked it up bad, the fish were lame

the intro is already 10x better than the S2 edits. they should let people who aren't Jet edit these things

Episode 1 was great, but that's not surprising given the content. The first week of Season 2 was excellent. Character moments were happening constantly and everyone felt really keyed in.

you think the editing is good, just wait till they let someone else run fishtank. Jet should have never moved beyond being Nick's assistant. imagine every guest going "is that your real name" the first time Sam or Nick goes "jet" every episode of their podcast and him having to tell his story.
 
The camera angles make it very obvious that more than one of them were in on knowing fishtank s1. When the TTS showed up for the first time you could see tayleigh crack a smile. Haven't finished EP1 yet, but it's way better than what they did for S1.

Edit: One minor baby little nitpick that I might be 100% wrong about is that Sam says "adam's apple check?" around the 18-19 minute mark it comes out of fucking nowhere. If I recall, the context was that everyone thought Tayleigh was a tranny and him saying that was a little wink and nod at the chat. It's not super major but I hope nothing major along that vein shows up as the show continues.

Really fantastic first episode. I could nitpick minor details here and there, but overall I don't think they could have really done much better and it feels like a real TV show which someone with no information could watch and enjoy. Many of the improvements are almost exactly what we critiqued the S1 episodes for in this thread and I'm especially glad that now there is a real introduction to the show and the producers.

Obviously, I think after episode 2 (which presumably will end with the reveal that everyone is the plant) the quality of the content is only going to deteriorate but given the great choices in what is and isn't shown so far, I'm quietly optimistic that they will be able to stick to this winning format.

Hopefully the final two weeks is edited down to 1-2 episodes, there's not enough content for more than that.
 
First episode was far better than what they released for season 1.
The only thing I think could've really used some work for the first episode was some of the background music. Why are they going with what sounds like royalty-free stock music they just ripped from somewhere? MDE always had some interesting music choices, but some of this just feels bland; it's more noticeable at some parts compared to others.

I looked into it a bit and the guy behind the music is Green Sahara, but he only did 12 songs for the soundtrack. So I assume the rest of the music is from some stock library.
It's a rather minor issue, though.

Jimmy is the only one of the “plants” who doesn’t immediately soyface when the judge comes in. Shocked I missed this from the cameras but it probably just looked like surprise.

TRUE. Although I was surprised to see Sam downstairs trying on his outfit while Jimbo crouches in front of him. So maybe he knew enough not to soy. He did do the fake thinking face (thumb on chin fingers covering lips and such) when Sam said there was a plant. And I can’t think of something more suspicious than doing that.

Also, I missed a lot of the early season. I see why everyone loved Cole so much. Funny little guy.

Cole squandered so much goodwill with his ego and whiny flip outs about production. He kept comparing himself to Jon but what he really couldn't handle was being Letty(him vs entire house).
