In the context of winning Bashir knows out of James and Landon, James is his only real competition. If he is playing the social game he wants Landon close and on his side to help eliminate James giving him an easier win. However I do think Bashir is a pretty empathetic guy and genuinely cares about Landon.Drake is a typical reality TV snake and Bashir is socially savvy in his own way. Bashir seems more genuine overall yet I feel like him working to lift the spirits of Landon and Blane is a social move that he feels is beneficial for him to do personally more than it is about making them feel good.
There are a lot of leaders out there like this, it isn't necessarily a bad thing but it can seem psycho.
As I type this, Bashir is talking to Landon and James Drake away from the others, saying that Binx and Laura are not their friends, to not to rely on them. With James Drake and Landon feeling let down, they're more susceptible to this sort of manipulation. It's hard for me to tell when Bashir is playing a game, being sincere or both.
