If the writer part is true I wouldn't be surprised at Scott's role as writer just being "hey, we just have new robotic fursuits for the robots" and probably making some easter eggs or whatever to surprise fans. Otherwise, Steel Wool had some opportunities to make with the game, perhaps something like throwing people off with Vanny in showing she isn't really Vanessa but say some prototype robot or whatever that got hit by a virus or programmed to kill by an Afton fanboy just to mess with people thinking Afton had to of came back while the jumpscare white lady that is Vanessa turns out to be clueless whatever horrors Gregory faced while thinking the kid just wanted to sneak in a place that's closed.

it is shit writing, especially since the TRUE & HONEST ending doesn't even acknowledge any of them at all, because teh conflicting endings could easily be explained as being non-canon, but since the canon ending doesn't even mention Vanny or Vannesa we are left to wonder what they fuck happened. I personally like to think they are not the same person, like Mark said the whole "Vanessa/Vanny" is just too obvious, so decent plot twist would be revealing that Vanessa is just a regular night guard doing her job, while being completely unaware of whats going on. Because even if Gregory told her, would you believe a kid that starts sperging about killer robots and shit? And even if Freddy tried to tell her whats going on, since he had just malfunctioned, Vanessa would most likely just assume that he is still malfunctioning.
Its how these retards' minds work, for example you could be a literal saint your entire life, personally feeding starving children in Africa and other parts, singlehandedly end not only the Covid pandemic, but Ebola as well, building hospitals where you attend everybody for free, and generally make the world a better place, and if in your dying breath you say "maybe Trump wasn't so evil" or "You know I once voted republican, lol" Then you are immediatelly the worst person to ever exist, all your "good deeds" completely memory-holed.
Her just being a random night guard doesn’t quite work, with some of the added notes and extra shit that has her searching up how to induce compliance in human subjects and inexplicable recommendations from higher-ups with no further info why she’s being recommended. They’ve weirdly tried a balancing act where as much lore exists that implies one option as does lore that instead implies the other. At this point they, as in Steel Wool, could genuinely not know yet and it wouldn’t change much.

My guess is that it’s intentionally written vaguely enough so that the most popular of the fan theories can be claimed to be canon the entire time in the next story installment, for another $20 you can actually get vague answers on the $40 story you played already.

Jesus fucking christ this is a new low. Hasn't the Crying Child been dead for upwards of half a century at this point in the timeline? I REALLY hope that Steel Wool doesn't just grave dig and yank a bunch of dead characters out of the ground, slap them in a "robot body" and call it a day. Like, if this all ends up being true and Freddy ends up being Micheal and Gregory ends up being robo-crying-child (and ESPECIALLY if Vanessa turned out to be an Afton as well), my eyes are going to roll so far into the back of my head that i may go permanently blind from the damage.
I feel like Gregory is a Rey type character with no backstory or link to the past.(remember all the theory about her family?).
