This is perhaps the biggest thing to come from xbox 360s in years now. Some may mention that this has been done before, a la king kong exploit from 2005, but that was for an extremely early firmware (which you CANNOT downgrade to) however this current exploit takes advantage of the update system and more than one game using the saving feature. This has been a buildup for around half a year now and with each update you can see monumental discoveries being made. Here is a couple of milestones being broken by Mr. Mario:

First Tony Hawk Exploit;

Major Hypervisor Exploit, Runs on latest firmware:

Hypervisor exploit ported to another game, now with an interface:

Updates after 3/11/2025 (ongoing)

(3/12/2025) Making backups, playing backups, playing unsigned xbla games, and playing region locked games are all now possible.

This comes with the disadvantage of taking a questionable amount of time (sometimes up to 45 minutes) and having to be run every time the console is powered on however considering just how quickly this hack has progressed It is likely more is about to be uncovered. I'd say this right now is similar to the discovery team twiizers found. With that said if you want to know about how things were discovered and more info check out the hackers blog here:

It seems like the one has been hacked. Idk exactly much about it tho, its architecture always seemed really boring to me imo.
All modern console architectures are boring, PS and Xbox are just whatever AMD has in stock, and the Switch just takes Nvidia's mobile chips.
The One has been hacked, but it's been patched out of the latest firmware.

Wrong video, the one you linked still uses Tony Hawk's American Wasteland.
This video shows how to do it with a free XBLA demo (Rock Band Blitz)

Thank you. I will update accordingly.

I'm not sure what this means. Is this useful for playing ROMs or something
This means that you dont need to open up the console and do a bunch of flashing things to get the console to play whatever you want. If you wanna play an emulator on the console now go right ahead, if you want to run a xbox live arcade game that was delisted or cracked, you can do that too. Whatever you can imagine you wanna do with the console you now have the ability to do without needing to know how to solder, including full games as well.

I haven't had a console in a really long time. But if I could potentially play lots of xbox360 emulators on it. I would be interested in grabbing a 360 I imagine they're pretty cheap by now

Just make sure you don't update it. I suppose microsoft is going to try and patch things up soon. Maybe they don't care considering the consoles age...the main thing I am hyped to do is play marble blast ultra the way God intended.

ok isnt this actually non viable from a user standpoint? isnt it like a 1 in 5 chance that you have to wait 20-30 mins to see if it even worked? EVERY FUCKING TIME YOU BOOT? It's very cool i do not debate that at all but the usefulness isn't there unless progress has been made that i am unaware of.

I'd really love a kodi port to the xbox 360. It never got one. Kodi originally started life as XBMC. Which was OG xbox exclusive.
I know you can run on an sbc and get better performance, most likely. But damn it, I still wanna see it.

Yeah but will it fix my red ring
lol no. That's hardware. There's probably ways to fix RROD. but idk.

I'm shocked that there are still any 360's actually working.
Its mostly the early fat models. The late fats, Slim, and E models work fine as they never had the RROD issue. Or if they did, it was extremely rare.

They just became yet another computer as an appliance. Basically just a PC with layers of custom software that stops you from just using it as a PC. Most hardware developments in the last 10 years or so have mostly just been trying to keep people as far away from the metal as possible so they can keep selling you the same shit over and over again and make you pay in perpetuity to use your hardware.

Will this help with emulation? Probably not? I just don't see a point in Xbox 360 now, you can't run games higher than 1080p. Tried my old console on new 4k TV and it looks not good, at least with emulation you can bring resolution up, if you have powerful enough pc.
