For the first time in over 19 years there is now a software only exploit for xbox 360s - (aka the hypervisor got cracked)

I love pc emulation as much as anybody but there are lots of games on any console that don't run properly in some form or fashion when emulated on a pc, sometimes the software just doesn't click with certain games. An emulator can do a lot but there is still a limit to what they can do. It's nice to have og consoles and copies of games you like so you know you can play it as intended if you want. You know there isn't going to be slowdown, or strange audio glitches in certain parts of games, none of that crap. You can always count on games on the real thing will operate properly as long as your console isn't trashed.

That's especially true in the case of the 360. Even though many games are running flawlessly or near flawlessly now, there are a non-negligible number of games that you can run into issues with.

It is too bad that it took so long to get a software solution for modding the 360, but I don't think it's "too late." If you're the kind of person that wants to keep an Xbox 360 around for modding purposes, you probably either don't care that 360 emulators exist, or do it for the same reason a lot of people mod their systems - just for fun. Most of my systems are modded for no other reason than because it was fun to do.

Personally, I'd rather just do RGH if for no other reason than having cold boot, but having a softmod option opens to doors for so many others that want to do their own stuff, and not have to do a mail-in.

Hopefully 360 chads get to enjoy softmodding PS3 users have.

Been meaning to pick up another CECHA01 60GB PS3. It's seriously my favorite Sony console they ever made. Plays all three gens, easy to jailbreak, and was a completely ridiculous machine back in 06.

1080p games and movies on a 4k screen isn't that bad lol.

My entire movie collection is 1080p, but I finally moved to 4K TVs because they're so cheap now. My movies look fine.

Most of the XBLA games can't be emulated properly if my memory serves me right. This is just the begining to get a better understanding on how to get more games running properly under emulation.

(By the way, Crackdown 1 and 2 and their dlcs are free on Xbox One and Series if you have any of those consoles and want to play them, no gamepass needed)

I don't know how long this is effective for though --and obviously you risk bricking the system entirely-- because as soon as I confirmed it was working again I sold it and bought a 360 slim model.

The towel trick is an easy way but also its one way where tons of things can go wrong. The best way to really go about getting rid of a red ring is by opening up the whole console, placing the mobo on a flat surface, then blasting the cpu and gpu with a hot air gun. You can typically find one of these hot air guns for around 20 bucks.

Ps3hen has been a game changer for my super slim. I cannot emphasize how nice it is to be able to just plug in an external hard drive and literally play any game I want. The best part about hacking is you also have the ability to play unlisted games so you can play stuff like scott pilgrim.

Because the 360 hypervisor is still considered the best piece of security software ever written. Breaking with a software exploit it is like climbing mount Everest in the exploit world

Is anyone out there selling 360 mod services? I'd love to take my old 360 and have it running the entire games library and the old blades UI.

Ask any modshop but also realize it only takes on wire and a raspberry pico to get RGH3 working.

Nothing says a dead community like having their ps1 having a full sdk kit made open to the public and nobody writing games for it (unlike the dreamcast) . Or having their japanese ps2 (psx) variants hard drive still encrypted to their specific model and unable to be cloned or swapped with an ssd.

Let me explain in small words.

Me Groog. Simple Cave Man. Groog see's Boog Goots with shiny rock with sharp edges. Boog Goots can use shiny rock with sharp edges to chop wood and make fire. Fire good. Fire make groog warm and use to make shadow play on cave walls. But without shiny sharp rock from Boog Goots, Groog must hunt for bad rotten fallen wood to make fire.

So Groog give second youngest daughter to Boog, as Boog likes them young, and Boog gives Groog shiny sharp rock thing. Now Groog can chop wood and make fire and play shadow games on cave wall. But Groog does not understand how shiny rock thing work. Eventually Shiny rock breaks. So Groog gives third youngest daughter to Boog for another Shiny Rock.

Little did Groog know, that Boog had spinning rock wheel thing that could restore shiny rock to maximum sharp. It might make you mad to find this out many years later but they didn't region lock all the games, they just sort of left it to developers to do whatever they want when releasing.
