Formula 1 Discussion - And favourite driver?

In no particular order:

I'd be surprised if Logan Sargeant survives the whole season. Whilst it might not be possible because of his RB ties, I would love to see Liam Lawson be given some time this year in the Williams.

What the fuck are RedBull doing with RB Visa Cash App or whatever they are called? Surely they are just losing money for no good reason?

How does a team with all the problems of Haas, have a car finish ahead of both the RBVCA's?

McLaren have started better than 2023, but less impressively than one would have hoped for, considering their end to 2023. Can they repeat their improvement over the year like last year, probably not.

How did Mercedes ever dominate for so long? Did they lose someone significant from their tech department? This is the 3rd year of consistent rules and they are once again going to be no threat for the either Championship.

Ferrari might get a few wins this year, despite their tendency to revert to being Italian, but clearly RedBull and Max are going to romp home again, but probably not by as much as they did in 2023.

The Aston Martin/Alonso dream also looks to be over.

Alpine are a disaster, maybe they can sell to Andretti or something, as they don't seem to have any clue or desire to be a serious team.

I thought Checo's second place was pretty weak considering how easily Max was doing it out front, I hope they replace him with someone half decent.

Red Bull power trains hired a lot of their engine staff. Plus their muh diversity push saw a lot of people hired based entirely on skin colour, in an era when cost cap limits factory headcounts (only top 5 paid are exempted from the cap) hiring a load of tokens doesn't help.

Fucking lol.

That fastest lap of Max's was almost 1.5s faster than anyone else managed.

I am loving all the seeth on social media about how the sport is totally definately dead now because Max won. As if dominance eras haven't been a thing as long as the sport has.

To be fair here Verstappen had fresh softs while Leclerc had fresh hards. Not exactly a good comparism. Also, Leclerc might have had brake issues but they sorted themselves out. Maybe some wrong setting? Or something clocked the brake cooling? At the very least Ferrari seems to have somehow solved their tyre issues. That is something. And an extra troll award for Newey for making the 2023 Mercedes into a winning car one year later. Now do the no sidepod concept

These are the fastest lap each driver did during the grand prix, Leclerc's fastest puts him 2nd.

Perez's fastest lap being 1.75 slower than Max's is also pretty significant.
Fair point. Would be interesting how fast Leclerc or Sainz could have gotten on fresh softs at the end. Still Verstappen seems to be on track for his next title unless the Horner affair causes internal chaos

Devil magic? I think K Mag made very few mistakes this race and VCARB slowed themselves with infighting.

It’ll just filter DTS casuals. This isn’t that bad in terms of dominance for a sport, at least the rest of the race is interesting and Max isn’t a complete wall in terms of personality. I think there’s something special when it comes to individual dominance in a sport and that it should be appreciated while it lasts.

I don't even think its DTS casualt, I think it's cultLH who never cared about the sport in the first place, just wanted to watch lewlew winning constantly.

If the ridiculous length of static rules that made sure hambone kept his dominance didn't kill the sport then Max having 3 seasons until a large rule change comes in sure as hell won't.

If anything it's nice to see someone with a clear passion for all things racing winning rather than someone who's doing to fund their next rap album and clothing line.

I’m pretty sure that Max’s secret is that he takes his job a lot more seriously than the others do. His hobby is simracing and the competition there is actual competition and you can’t blame your car for your bad driving. The last simrace of his I watched he won by less than a tenth and he was battling for position for multiple laps. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him pull a 20+ second gap on a Redline teammate unless they were joking around, but that happens frequently with Perez (admittedly though I don’t watch that many simraces).

I really hope his GT3 team does well once it gets off the ground and his friends get a chance to demonstrate their skills in a real car with an actual budget and competent engineering. Proving that sim racers can transition to real racing would actually make real life racing accessible to more people than any of the diversity programs that Lewis and the browbeaten FIA push.

Maybe racing makes one a better racer than attending the Met gala does… Also, I imagine hanging out with normal people every night instead of millionaires helps to keep the ego in check. Team Redline is not shy at all about making fun at him.

I do SimRacing from time to time (often being one of the slowest but it's still fun) and we have a few players who also drive in real life. Even the 24 hours of the Nordschleife. So it's not impossible to get far. Heck we had one driver with us who later won titles in his respective series. And some of the SimRacing games are quite realistic and even driving aids won't help you as they actually slow you down on high level settings

We're yet to see if RB brings the same advantage in tyre life that they did in the past.

Congrats on the payout.
Looks like they do! And thanks for the congrats, but much happier that my Max win by 10+ with FL paid off at 3X. I should have put 10K on that. LOLOL

Still only first race, but looks like similar season to 2023 ahead. Hope it shakes up a bit as we progress, but Max/RB combo seem unstoppable really.

I was thinking, if Max/RB keep going similar to last year, by end of 2025 there is a better than not chance he will be 2nd all time in career wins department. So, he is on trajectory to knock the nigger off the top of the list in next 3 or 4 years, I'd be quite happy if he abolishes almost every record Ham has by the time he is finished.

An ok race, given first of season, let's see if it tightens up as we progress. Back next weekend for another Saturday race.

You may be right to an extent, but I think it’s both after a quick glance on Twitter. More so of it from Lewlew fans however. Also NASCAR fans throwing shots as per usual as if NASCAR isn’t in the worst state it’s ever been. The American media (ESPN) seems to be bitching about it already acting like this will seriously hurt F1 if it goes like this for a few more races (it will). Overall, most of the complaining is just Lewlew dick riders, none of the other constructor fanbases seem all that upset. Maybe F1 needs some old NASCAR style racism to keep such people out of the sport.

The worying thing is this RBR is a compromise car, they didn't have enough time to finish everything Newey planned so put together what they had for this. They have a massive upgrade coming at Japan (April this year), which is rumoured to be even more of a nopod.

This race’s margin of victory is already greater than the fourth largest last year. There’s a chance we could see Max exceed 35 seconds if the upgrades work out.

Newey's insane plan is clearly to create a car that is fast enough to lap itself, creating a paradox that will dethrone the laws of physics. The only men who are capable of standing in his way are Swarthy Carl, who is poised to be ousted from Ferrari, and Alonso, who is locked in a holding pattern in a mid-field team.

Max’s secret is  AUTISM
You right the. The dude lives and breathes racing 24/7. When it comes to passion and dedication and the sort of talent and intelligence that gives way to on the track i think him and nando are in a leauge of their own in that regard. Outside of the redbull pr events and Aston tick stock skits(witch Fernando always nails) they both are always racing or doing something involving racing. It's really easy to see why as time goes on those two have shown such admiration for each other. Real recognizes real sorta shit.

Also though I don't think max can mentally help himself. The dude may have some sort of weird neortypical affixation with race car driving. Witch is fine cause the results are fucking fascinating. Maybe it is starting to get boring but 20 years from now that'll be irrelevant and he'll be talked about in the same vein Clark and Schumacher and senna are. He's gonna be your future favorite drivers favorite driver.

Yuki is kinda of lil spaz. And routinely is very bitchy. But also you kinda feel for the guy cause Daniel Riccardo is not the guy. I get why he is the guy for redbull$ he sells and will be complacent enough to race with max again. Yuki will never be that guy. Think he knows that. But I think he also isn't that far off from being routinely quicker than ric. The dts jerkoff Riccardo gets has to suck. 5 years ago maybe you gotta case for prioritizing this guy on merit but I just don't see it anymore. It's shitty too cause it's just gonna get worse if perez manages to not fuck up this season and somehow keep his seat.

Merc fans genuinely deplorable. Crazy watching the very tolerant and women friendly Fandom ready to jump for joy over the possibility some alleged women was "sexually abused" all because this dislike a certain f1 team. It's truly impressive the kinda hypocrisy there. Not just sexually abused either but doxed and the details sent out to not only every journalist and important personal surronding the industry she is employed in. But to the public masses as clickbait. And they so want it all to be true. It's kinda sad how quickly there morals go out the window.

Isn't Albon still connected to RB somehow? If so, then the precedent is there and Lawson would be an ideal candidate to slot into Sargeant's seat.

As if Max ever had a choice. Jos is living vicariously though him, and definitely gives off helicopter parent vibes. Not as strongly as Lawrence Stroll, though.

Well I guess it's going to be watching the 7min highlights on youtube for the rest of the year for me, modern F1 is so incredibly dull, DRS making overtaking easy and unexciting, no refueling or anything else to give teams strategy options, no tyre war, everything so bulletproof and planted that nothing unexpected ever happens to mix things up a bit, snooooooore.
