Holy shit Bayern really are going for Kompany: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cxww834p37vo

Bayern Munich are in advanced talks with Burnley over the shock appointment of Vincent Kompany as their new coach.

The Bundesliga side believe Kompany wants to join them and the two clubs are aiming to agree on a compensation fee.

It is believed Kompany, 38, would take his Clarets backroom staff with him to Munich, including former Wales international Craig Bellamy.

Bayern have struggled to find a replacement for Thomas Tuchel, whose exit was confirmed last week after initially being announced in February.

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, Germany chief Julian Nagelsmann and current Austria coach Ralf Rangnick have all turned down the job.

Talks about persuading Tuchel to stay on failed to reach a positive conclusion, leaving Bayern with a problem.

Kompany has built a decent reputation in his time at Anderlecht and Burnley, although the Clarets' relegation following lofty pre-season expectations has not reflected well on the Belgian.

He speaks German, having played in the Bundesliga for Hamburg.

Kompany signed a five-year contract extension at Burnley in 2023 but refused to answer questions about his future after Sunday's home defeat by Nottingham Forest.

Kompany, a four-time Premier League winner as a player with Manchester City, became Burnley manager in June 2022 in his first managerial role in England, having previously been in charge of Anderlecht.

Burnley minority shareholder and former NFL player JJ Watt posted a cryptic message on X on Wednesday night, saying: "People often ask if European football ownership helps fill the adrenaline void from playing...

"There are definitely days."

Even though I hoped Bayer Leverkusen would win the final I have to give credit to Bergamo. They earned this victory, in the 1st half they were fierce and efficient, didn't give an inch to Leverkusen defensively and made two deserved goals. In the second half they cleverly managed the game and did the knockout punch. They played great. Congratulations to Bergamo.
Denying the second half to Leverkusen was key. That's where teams just fall apart is that ending. Atalanta being able to manage that second half is what won them the game. Well done to them as well. They didn't convincingly win their group with Sporting in it, tying both Sporting and Sturm Graz but got through nonetheless. Got to knock out Sporting, Liverpool, and Marseille on the road to a title, so they played some good teams. Should be interesting to see what happens to their squad now that they are a European champion.

I laugh but like, at this point, who else can Bayern get? Just kinda sad that Kompany is going to throw away his coaching career so Bayern can have another year and a half stop gap before hiring the next sucker to run their club

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta has been charged by the Football Association for allegedly getting booked deliberately "for the improper purpose of affecting the betting market".
The charges relate to a Premier League game against Leicester City on 12 November in 2022, plus 2023 fixtures against Aston Villa on 12 March, Leeds United on 21 May and Bournemouth on 12 August.
The 26-year-old Brazil international had been under investigation since last summer over suspicious betting patterns.
An FA statement said: "It's alleged that he [Paqueta] directly sought to influence the progress, conduct, or any other aspect of, or occurrence in these matches by intentionally seeking to receive a card from the referee for the improper purpose of affecting the betting market in order for one or more persons to profit from betting."
Paqueta, who joined West Ham from Lyon for an initial £36.5m in August 2022, said he was "extremely surprised and upset" by the charges.
"For nine months, I have co-operated with every step of their investigation and provided all the information I can. I deny all the charges in their entirety and will fight with every breath to clear my name," he added.
The charges came on the same day the Hammers confirmed the appointment of Julen Lopetegui as their new head coach following the departure of David Moyes.
A West Ham statement said: "The club will continue to stand by and support the player throughout the process."
Paqueta has until 3 June to respond to the charge of "misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of FA Rules E5 and F3" subject to any request for an extension.

The games FA charges relate to

West Ham 0-2 Leicester - 12 November 2022
Paqueta booked for a 'lunge' on Leicester midfielder Boubakary Soumare in the 60th minute.
He is booked at 1-0 and the match finishes 2-0 to Leicester.
West Ham 1-1 Aston Villa - 12 March 2023
Paqueta booked for what is described as a 'lunging challenge' on John McGinn in the 70th minute, with the score at 1-1.
West Ham 3-1 Leeds United - 21 May 2023
Paqueta is booked for pulling back Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville on the counter-attack in the 65th minute.
It happens at 1-1, with West Ham going on to win 3-1.
West Ham 1-1 Bournemouth - 12 August 2023
In the opening game of this season, Paqueta is booked for handball in the 94th minute, with the match finishing 1-1.
In addition to the betting related crap which are the rule E5 breaches, the Rule F3 breach they mention means the FA don't think he's co-operated fully and/or handed everything over. Will be interesting to see if they try and throw the book at him, my guess would be yes

Juve will win the champions league, you heard it here first
I’m dreaming big for sure. Motta is bringing Calafiori with him and it’s starting to look like Bremer stays. Fagioli suspension over, big talents returning from loan, a few smart signings and we go.

Dusseldorf already up 1:0 on Bochum in the Bundesliga relegation first leg. Lot of football left to play, obviously (only 15 minutes in on the first leg).

Atalanta were something else yesterday. I was rooting for the Leverkusen treble but eh... can't be upset with Atalanta's win.

now rooting for FC Kaiserslautern to win the DFB Pokal. I think this qualifies them for Europa League Football as a 2nd Division side
It does qualify them, like how Portsmouth won the FA cup and got relegated. Like the Europa League final, I am fine with each team winning it but I don't want to see Leverkusen collapse after exposing Bayern's absolute shit status as a club. I want to send them into next season on a high

Bochum vs Düsseldorf ended 0:3 and there is a very, very important lesson to learn for every struggling team:

If you are on a downward spiral where you piss away a comfortable lead to the relegation ranks and end up playing relegation in the end, do not at any circumstances fucking bench your most important player of the squad*. Especially not if it's the goalkeeper and ABSOLUTELY NOT if you are facing the strongest offensive of the 2nd tier league and ABSOFUCKINGLOTULY NOT if your goalkeeper is one of the best assist giver you have and ABSOLUTELYTOTALLYFUCKINGNOT if you need a win at home bc you suck dick for cock in away matches.

*they benched their 1st goalkeeper Riemann bc he got mad at some players in the last regular league match last weekend and replaced him with Luthe who will retire after the relegation matches

Barcelona has sacked Xavi. I don’t follow la liga closely but do I have this right:
- Xavi announces he will leave/resign after the season.
- Sporting director begs him to stay
- Xavi refuses at first but eventually agrees to remain.
- Laporte fires him anyway.
What a disgraceful club. I don’t even like Xavi as a manager but he’s a legend of Barca.

Edit: I’m also seeing reports that Jose Mourinho is now one of the favorites to take the Chelsea job :story:
What an absolute shit show that would be.

Allegedly it's bc Xavi 1. spilled the beans about Barca's financial situation (which never has been a secret) and 2. said that expectations should be that high for the club for the near future (true bc see 1.) which angered Laporte. If true Laporte is a fucking idiot (which never was been doubted anyways).

And top candidate for the job is allegedly Hansi Flick. Allegedly he is close to signing, only a few minor details have to be agreed on.

Lolcow threads for Barca, Chelsea and Bayern when?

Laporte fired him for being honest. Thats the only thing missing here. And its absolutely a disgrace. Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets, Pique, and Puyol should be untouchable legends from that era of barca and to just be disregarded like some shit manager the stole from Real Betis is unforgiveable.

Hire Poch to help develop these young players they went and bought. Poch leaves because he wants more control over the squad and realizes it isn't possible. Hire Mourinho who is notorious for wanting to change the squad. Makes sense

And top candidate for the job is allegedly Hansi Flick.
Who turned down Bayern. What kind of shit show must bayern be to have someone prefer Barca over them?

Honestly IMO the Flick story was boiled up by the media way more than it was actual hot.
Same with Hoeneß (Stuttgart) who was rumored to join Bayern but pretty soon declared to stay with Stuttgart which was obvious bc he has no reason at all to join Bayern right now. Stuttgart played relegation last year and now he led them to become vice champions and play Champions League. He has something cooking at Stuttgart. Why giving this up? If he performs well enough with Stuttgart next season the door at Bayern will still be open for him.
Same with Alonso. Leverkusen confirmed Bayern made a first contact but it was declined immediately by Alonso bc why should he join Bayern? Why should he join them at all? With his current Leverkusen squad his shots at a CL title are as good as with the current or an improved Bayern squad. It's his first full season and he already played the first ever invincible season in Bundesliga. Only the sky is the limit for Alonso and he can fly as high with Leverkusen -who are a financially cheat code club- as with Bayern.

The two names that were thrown around and that were actually mind boggling are Nagelsmann and Ragnick. Nagelsmann was set up to extend his contract with the national team. He has something cooking there. There's actually some hype for our national team again at the moment but so far Nagelsmann hasn't won anything with them. Let Germany get kicked out early at the Euro Cup and everybody will talk about how Bayern dodged a bullet here. Everyone is expecting that our team will make it at least to the final. That's a high bar and easy to fail. I simply don't see which offer Bayern could have made him to join them again. The amount of power they would have had to hand him over is insane after all what happened with him. No way this is going to happen as long as the big dog in the background, Uli Hoeneß, is alive. He is the patriarch of the club, end of story.

And Ragnick? He has an ongoing contract with the Austrian national team and he's cooking there. Besides that, the moment his name came up there were a lot of people pointing out how he isn't a good fit for Bayern. Like a lot. From every direction. Whatever negotiations they may have had these were torpedoed by literaly everyone.

I simply have no idea what sort of devil was riding the Bayern officials thinking they could get one of these two guys or that it would be a good idea. Total clown show at the moment but I'm going to enjoy it as long as it lasts before Bayern goes back to fucking murder mode again. Which will happen.

So Bayern have agreed a deal for Kompany, and are paying Burnley ~£10mil in compensation. However that no longer takes the title of "Biggest WTF managerial appointment" because:
Championship side Plymouth Argyle have appointed former England captain Wayne Rooney as their new head coach.

The 38-year-old succeeds Ian Foster, who was sacked on 1 April after a poor run of results.

It is Rooney's first role since he was sacked by Birmingham City on 2 January after a disappointing reign of less than three months in which he lost nine of 15 games.

Blues, who were in the Championship play-off places when Rooney took over, were relegated to League One earlier this month.
