Since the Premier League was founded in 1992 not a single English coach was able to win it and since the rebranding to Champions League, also in 1992, no English coach ever won the Champions League.

Maybe that's the issue here, that English coaches just suck.
I don't think English coaches are great but as far as the England job, the choices they had would not have taken the job. I don't know of many oversees so just looking at the premier league you got:

Sean Dyche - Not sure he would leave but England don't want him either
Eddie Howe - Could be good for England but why would he leave Newcastle?
Gary O'Neil - Not sure you would want him since he is struggling with Wolves right now

And thats it for the premier league. Others of note I guess

Michael Carrick - Doing a pretty good job with Middlesbrough in the Championship but he would be a guy who needs to develop into the job and England are in a win now spot
Mark Robins - Did a good job with Coventry last season and took them up from League 2 to almost making the premier league but isn't good enough for what England need right now
Will Still- Is doing well but with little talent in the French League. Plus I don't think he has his coaching badges still
Graham Potter - His charade seems to be up but he would have been perfect for England if he didn't fuck up at Chelsea so spectacularly
Rob Edwards - Luton manager that was a hot commodity 2 years ago. Not sure if you would want him now but he would have jumped ship from Luton

These English managers who want a shot at England need to follow Southgate's path tbh. Dude was a mediocre premier league manager and decent Championship manager but he decided to take the U-21 England job and learn the role. Its easy to adapt to the international game at the U-21 level since the stakes aren't as high and you can learn. Then when you are ready, you can take on the national team job

Another week, another Champions League predictions.

Tuesday matches are
- Monaco vs Red Star (draw)
- AC Milan vs FC Brugge (draw)
- Sturm Graz vs Sporting (win Sporting)
- Girona vs Bratislava (win Girona)
- Aston Villa vs Bologna (win Aston Villa)
- Arsenal vs Donezk (win Arsenal)
- P$G vs Eindhoven (win P$G)
- Juventus vs Stuttgart (win Juve)
- Real Madrid vs Dortmund (2:3 win Dortmund. No goal Mbappe)

Wednesday matches are
- Atalanta vs Celtic (win Atalanta)
- Man City vs Praha (clear win City)
- Benfica vs Feyernord (win Benfica)
- RB Salzburg vs Dinamo Zagreb (0:0 snoozefest)
- Young Boys vs Inter (win Inter)
- Atletico Madrid vs LOSC (win Atletico)
- Stade Brest vs Leverkusen (draw)
- RB Leipzig vs Liverpool (win Liverpool)
- FC Barcelona vs FC Bayern (4:4 let's gooo!)

I predict at least 3 red cards.

We get last CL season's final with Real vs Dortmund and we get Barcelona vs Bayern which I think is an absolute highlight.
Juventus vs Stuttgart will be another banger, same for Leipzig vs Liverpool. Despite Stuttgart having lost both matches and losing to Bayern 1:4 this weekend you will never know what you get. It's ride or die with Stuttgart. Same for Leipzig. Zero points in CL so far but if they manage to bring their best on the pitch they can be a real threat to Liverpool, besides Liverpool being the clear favorite.

A really insane thing is happening in Argentina right now. I have seen a few different fan groups from Argentina united in their hatred of what is happening right now.

Currently, Argentina has 28 teams in their top flight with a plan to add 2 more to the top flight without relegation. This is going to lead to a lot of problems that I have seen almost universally talked about by a bunch of different fan clubs, even those who realize they would be in the second or even third division if this wasn't the case. A normal squad has around 20-25 players in the squad, so for a conservative calculation, lets say 20. 20 players for 30 teams gets you 600 players. Does any country really have 600 players that are of the quality of the top flight? Even if you say only 75% of players on the squads in other leagues are actual top flight quality, thats still 450 players on a conservative amount. So Argentina is forcing their top flight players to play against second and third division competition in a 29 week season (twice since they have 2 separate seasons) along with a cup competition and international competitions.

Other issues it brings up
-The congested schedule and game time. Its easy to laugh at a Man City or a Real Madrid who complain about the schedule when they basically are playing in every final but when you got a small time team playing a minimum of 59 games a season because of this schedule change, thats kinda fucked. These guys aren't being paid anywhere near the amount of a De Bruyne to play these games.
-The quality of officiating. 15 games a week has to happen. You think about how hard it is to find good officials in any country and you can't really find 9 or 10 good officials in these countries but now you are expecting to get 15 good officials? They are going to end up having officials who aren't ready for the top flight reffing these games and they will end up making big time mistakes that shouldn't happen in the top flight. But they are forced into these situations because 15 games need to happen.
-The quality of the lower divisions. Lower divisions in Argentina are basically cleared out of any talent. You need 600+ players in the first division so you are going to take as many guys as you can get. On top of that, why would any youngster looking to develop with playing time go play in the second division? The second division is more like a 4th division and the bottom 10 teams will probably take the best youth players on loan. On top of that, a lot of youth players that do really well in these bigger teams tend to go to a smaller first division team or second division team and prove themselves in order to make it to the first division. But there is no point to go into the second division because you aren't really proving yourself anymore.

Its become a real shit show with the AFA and the top division and this is entirely done to get votes from these clubs for the people running the show. A 3 time world champion who develops insane talent is ruining their entire country set up for literally no reason.

(Also as a side, I don't really know if this is a valid argument, but they were also complaining that a lot of these clubs are thrust into the first division without the infrastructure to handle first division teams away fans. But last I checked, away fans weren't really allowed at these games so no idea if this is a valid point but it very well could be)

I never really looked into the Argentinian league system but holy shit mother of christ what the fuck is this even?!?

A lot of sperging (most likely deserved) also happened/is still happening in Mexico because they got rid of relegation in Liga MX. When they did have relegation, it was a joke because the same few promoted teams yo-yo’d up and down, or the relegated teams would buy the promoted team and essentially swap identities. The quality of Liga MX has since deteriorated to the point they’re losing to MLS sides in Concachampions, and the Mexican National Team is even more ass than it usually has been.

I can’t imagine this going over well with Argentinian fans. One of the most surreal situation in football I ever saw was when Belgrano relegated the mighty River Plate.

The Primera B and Primera C side is for clubs in the Greater Buenos Aires area. The Torneo side is for literally everyone else in the country and plays more like a tournament than a league. So the fact that there is 38 clubs and 376 clubs isn't that shocking because they just get eliminated throughout the year until there are teams set for promotion. The Primera B and Primera C having those amount of teams is ok because the Torneo Promoccional Amateur is for players under 26 that haven't played professionally. They use to have a Primera D and then if you got relegated, you were just playing friendlies and could get back in the league a year later. Which made everything more competitive but now its just insanity

The Mexican promotion and relegation use to be a bigger joke than the MLS because they pretended like they had relegation when it wasn't really the case. At least the MLS only pretends to have equal wage bills instead of pretending like there was relegation.

River Plate were relegated that season because of the rules set aside to prevent them from being relegated in the 80s. That year they finished 4th in the Apertura (August to Feb) and finished 9th in the Clausura (Feb to June) but they do an average over the past 3 years and see how many points per game you get to determine relegation and River Plate got put in the playoffs at 17th because of it. They finished 20th and 8th in 2008/09 with enough points to finish 16th that year, finished 14th and 13th in 2009/10 with enough points to finish 15th, and then finished with enough points to finish tied 5th that year and got put in the relegation playoffs which they then lost. That team didn't deserve to be relegated but the system put in place to save them in the 80s came back to fuck them

The AFA system (left column) is mostly comprised of small-fry teams located in the Buenos Aires metro area and a few outliers here and there. Everybody else across Argentina has to play in the Federal system (right column), which is just a commonwealth of local federations with AFA's auspices. It's usually like this: the Primera B and Torneo Federal A hold round-robins at the end of the regular season that permit one or two teams to go to Primera Nacional. Whoever gets relegated from it will either go to Primera B or Torneo Federal A, depending on where they are localized.

The Regional Federal is obviously divided by regions that dispute vacancies in the third-tier championships, which is why it has that shitload of teams. Not even mentioning the Regional Leagues.

Every two years or so, they try to reorganize this mess of a system and schedule, only to create bigger ones. Relegation is also a humongous mess that even I can't make heads or tails about - I think it has to do with the mean of points earned in the last few seasons played in either Division, which means a shitty season a couple years ago or so can signify a decent team's relegation later on. Insert the Copa Argentina, which is always held in neutral grounds for some damn reason, and there you have it too.

All in all, AFA president Chiqui Tapia said it better in a promo that became a meme. Don't try to understand it. Just enjoy it.

Sort of. The big rivalry games (Boca vs. River, Independiente vs. Racing, Newells vs. Rosario Central, etc.) no longer accept away team fans because they always, ALWAYS end in a violent shitshow between rival fans, with the cops entering the fray somewhere in between. The barras bravas also hold too much sociopolitical sway (notably, former president Mauricio Macri was Boca Juniors president for quite some time before verging into politics) but never reach proper consensus about the situation because that would admit their members are a bunch of chest-thumping niggers itching for a fight.

This year, two very small clubs are playing in Primera División - Barracas Central and Deportivo Riestra, both from Buenos Aires. Their stadiums are very small and don't even have floodlights. In Barracas' case, they usually rent out Huracán's stadium for high-profile and/or night games, because it's a stone's throw from their home ground. It helps they are Chiqui Tapia's team (which also explains how this crappy side managed to rise to the top flight in such a short time), so the deals are suspiciously easy because of that. Riestra, however, either refuses or has no condition to do that with the nearby San Lorenzo ground, forcing the big boys to play in this tiny widdle pitch in the suburbs in the middle of the afternoon of a weekday, and having to use San Lorenzo's facilities to train and get ready. Just see here the difference in size between the stadiums.

Vini Jr. is a fucking cheat code at this point.

Another week, another Champions League predictions.

Tuesday matches are
- Monaco vs Red Star (draw) 5:1 win Monaco. Good lord, did I overestimate Red Star lol
- AC Milan vs FC Brugge (draw) 3:1 win Milan. Got to impressed with Brugge due to their match against Dortmund and underestimated Milan.
- Sturm Graz vs Sporting (win Sporting) 0:2
- Girona vs Bratislava (win Girona) 2:0
- Aston Villa vs Bologna (win Aston Villa) 2:0 Villa
- Arsenal vs Donezk (win Arsenal) 1:0 Arsenal
- P$G vs Eindhoven (win P$G) 1:1 Again, not mad that I got this wrong bc fuck P$G anyways.
- Juventus vs Stuttgart (win Juve) 0:1 win Suttgart
- Real Madrid vs Dortmund (2:3 win Dortmund. No goal Mbappe) 5:2 win Real.

Wednesday matches are
- Atalanta vs Celtic (win Atalanta) 0:0
- Man City vs Praha (clear win City) 5: is a clear win I'd say
- Benfica vs Feyernord (win Benfica) 1:3 win Feyernord
- RB Salzburg vs Dinamo Zagreb (0:0 snoozefest) 0:2 win Zagreb
- Young Boys vs Inter (win Inter) 0:1 win Inter thanks Thuram scoring in 93th minute.
- Atletico Madrid vs LOSC (win Atletico) 1:3 win Lille
- Stade Brest vs Leverkusen (draw) 1:1
- RB Leipzig vs Liverpool (win Liverpool) 0:1 win Liverpool
- FC Barcelona vs FC Bayern (4:4 let's gooo!) 4:1 win Barca. At least I got the 4 goals for Barca correct.

I predict at least 3 red cards. 1 for Brugge, 1 for RB Salzburg and 1 for Juventus.

It's ride or die with Stuttgart. Same for Leipzig. Zero points in CL so far but if they manage to bring their best on the pitch they can be a real threat to Liverpool, besides Liverpool being the clear favorite.

Real vs Dortmund was something else. Nuri Sahin fucked up. A lot of Dortmund fans already calling for his scalp and want him gone but I say "What the fuck do you expect from such a young coach? Shit happens".
Barcelona vs Bayern was a highlight indeed. Bayern needs to get a new defence asap. Kim Min-jae and Upamecano aren't aint it. Either Kim fucks up or Upamecano or both together. It's not a new issue. That happened constantly last season. Bayern clearly is the favourite to become Bundesliga champions again but for the CL it isn't enough. Man City, Real, Liverpool, Barca are all way ahead of Bayern. PSG has the talent to hurt Bayern badly too.

Juve vs Stuttgart was not a banger or at least not the sort of banger I hoped for. Juve fucking sucked. The 3rd ranked Serie A team lost to ranked 10th Bundesliga team. Jesus fucking Christ.
Leipzig tried but clearly didn't have any answer to Liverpool's efforts. Liverpool could have won way higher.

Overall not a bad matchday thanks to the two Spanish-German match ups. Eindhoven getting away with a draw in Paris is a nice surprise. Watching Juve was painful tho.

Hence his other nickname is Ficticius.
That's a new one. Gonna use it more often.

Anyways, we had the Libertadores semi-finals last two nights, and...

2024-10-24_05-41-39.png

And those are only the first legs. Our league is way past above the rest of Latin America's, yet somehow our NT is a mess and a half.

Almost like hiring a rookie manager whose only achievement was winning the championship with a PL squad is a bad idea

On a similar note, cant wait for Maresca to flop
Kompany is basically at a club that is set up to fail. Don’t think that will help his career aspirations much. Chelsea will trend that way soon enough

Are we back to the point where Brazil has the most money in South America and can buy the players before they go to Europe again?
