I don't think English coaches are great but as far as the England job, the choices they had would not have taken the job. I don't know of many oversees so just looking at the premier league you got:Since the Premier League was founded in 1992 not a single English coach was able to win it and since the rebranding to Champions League, also in 1992, no English coach ever won the Champions League.
Maybe that's the issue here, that English coaches just suck.
Sean Dyche - Not sure he would leave but England don't want him either
Eddie Howe - Could be good for England but why would he leave Newcastle?
Gary O'Neil - Not sure you would want him since he is struggling with Wolves right now
And thats it for the premier league. Others of note I guess
Michael Carrick - Doing a pretty good job with Middlesbrough in the Championship but he would be a guy who needs to develop into the job and England are in a win now spot
Mark Robins - Did a good job with Coventry last season and took them up from League 2 to almost making the premier league but isn't good enough for what England need right now
Will Still- Is doing well but with little talent in the French League. Plus I don't think he has his coaching badges still
Graham Potter - His charade seems to be up but he would have been perfect for England if he didn't fuck up at Chelsea so spectacularly
Rob Edwards - Luton manager that was a hot commodity 2 years ago. Not sure if you would want him now but he would have jumped ship from Luton
These English managers who want a shot at England need to follow Southgate's path tbh. Dude was a mediocre premier league manager and decent Championship manager but he decided to take the U-21 England job and learn the role. Its easy to adapt to the international game at the U-21 level since the stakes aren't as high and you can learn. Then when you are ready, you can take on the national team job
