It's funny that they finally do content that's too little too late.

This is how X-Play/G4 TV should have been from the start. Just talk to legendary game devs and talk games with them. If you gave me a film crew, a modest budget, and Game Dev Zoom accounts I would have interviewed Ed Boon like this guy did, I'd interview John Romero, Todd Howard, Julian Gollup etc etc. They should have found a bilingual Japanese gamer who could do interviews with Japanese developers and then just added subtitles.

They could have been another No Clip, I love that channel even if some of the guys involved on there can be rather cunty on Twitter. But no they though Adam Sessler and Frosk could carry network. Foolish blunder.

While it's extremely fun to shit on Frosk (and deserved) - it's also worth pointing out the obvious - the channel was doomed from the start.

I didn't keep up super hard on the drama outside of the major stuff, but just looking at their YT channel now - out of the last 24 streams, only 3 of them feature people playing actual video games. Everything else is the boilerplate Podcast/News segments and TV Show/Trailer reactions - which is the lowest tier (and cheapest) of content you could possibly do on Youtube.

Looking down the list at the next 24 YT segments - the same thing happens, only 4 are video games (3 games being played, 1 being talked about). Wasn't this supposed to be a video game channel?

It looks like Frosk (at least in the last few months) isn't featured front and center on anything - not even in the entirely soy filled and embarrassing thumbnails they do for a lot of the podcasts. It also looks like that most of the video game content is being driven by Jirard - which is fine in theory - but if you like Jirard's video game content and can't get it from G4, you can just watch his channel, his streams, or his other collabs (Scary Game Squad).

I genuinely don't know who this content is for or why it's sorted the way it is. There's a channel for G4, but also a separate channel on YT for Xplay, Xplay Live Esports, and Attack of the Show? But all of those channels also break down into other reactions and dumb shit?

Frosk didn't help but it seems pretty clear that G4 was meant to just meant to coast on the name and pump out really cheap content for a wider audience. I cannot imagine anyone who watched G4 back in the day being genuinely excited to watch two nobodies "live react" to "She Hulk" - and even if they were, there's already a million channels that were already doing exactly that.

The channel(s) needed much more focus and an actual touch of professionalism and a sense of class - it somehow feels expensive and cheap to watch at the same time. There are some professional people there putting out the most amatuerish content I've seen on YT in a long while. The esports division is just making fun of men under 5'7, crossdressing as Chun Li, and playing Mario Party? The video games division is watching MCU TV shows?

There's so much bad content that I couldn't even find any "good" content to try and compare it against - and I'm more willing that most to dig through a pile of shit to try and find something worthwhile inside which is why most people likely bounced off and just went back to whatever YT/Twitch/whatever content they were already consuming.

There was a path for success in G4 - to fill the "kind of serious, kind of fun, somewhat professional" content void left when Giantbomb cratered - but this content they currently had is literally the bottom of the barrel, dime a dozen, worthless garbage that already litters the landscape.

I don't know the logic behind it, but several _non nerd_ content creators for normies that I listen to split their channel up into multiples at one point due to the YT algorithm making it more worthwhile. However, most of them saw a reverse in that benefit and collapsed everything back into one channel.

There's a logic to it - you're supposed to seperate different types of content into different channels to keep up up engagement on those channels.

For example - people who are really into esports will probably check out the XPlayEsports channel but probably don't want to watch "Live Reaction - She Hulk" so that gets moved to a different channel. Some people prefer edited down content, some people prefer whole ass twtich VODs, etc.

The baffling part is that G4 separated out a bunch of channels but didn't actually separate out content. Some of these are events, some of them are clips, some of them are nonsense (aka "Which LCS Team is Most Likely to get you Laid") instead of a consistent tone and content; which is why you'd do a different channel. It's also an "esports" channel but it's really just a League of Legends channel with a few other games sprinkled in. The content and format is wildly inconsistent

Worse than that - there's esports content in the other two main channels as well.

It feels very much like they had an idea but no vision - and just made other channels because that's what they thought they were supposed to do and really just made the whole thing really indecipherable to their target audience (anyone who would have stayed after being told to fuck off initially). It really speaks to a much deeper arrogance about the whole affair.

You can't tell me that someone was ignorant enough to look at the video games being played online market and didn't see that it was already over saturated with anyone and everyone. I think it being a big old scam makes a lot more sense.
