You want to tell me that Jeremy Blaustein, who (in)famously added random philosophers' quotes and lines from the NKJV translation of the Holy Bible (New Testament completed in 1979) to the translation of SOTN (takes place in 1797) is involved in botched translations? Shocking.

Blaustein did whatever he want with the script of MGS and SOTN, and was fired from Konami when Kojima caught wind of several of his fan-fiction insertions. He's always been a hack who was lucky to work on some of the greatest masterpieces in the history of gaming doing the heavy lift for him. To this day he still believes MGS wouldn't have become such a success in the west without his liberal interpretation of it.

When you compare the script of the original MGS to the more literal translation given to The Twin Snakes, there is clearly some effort to make it seem more natural for an overseas audience (and one with a different language syntax).

I will grant you that replacing the fictional Zanzibar Land with the country Zanzibar was a legitimate screwup (they're separated by an ocean, for crying out loud), but only because "Zanzibarland" would have been a better translation.

I never bought this explanation. 99% of text for any language is either very obvious meaning, or said so, even if you missed a word, you can understand what people said by pure context. The only exceptions is archaic speech (that just misses a lot of context) and poetry (which is true for every language). And even the slightly more problematic proverbs either tend to have a near exact match in English (As long as it doesn't depend on some pun), or the localizer can just outright write the proverb in the text with an explanation.

It's not the snes era where localizers didn't want to put japanese mythology since they were afraid it will be incomprehensible to the player.

You can really tell this translation was written by millennials. Every translated line of text is trying to be funny regardless of context and\or there is an over use of vulgarity were there was none.

In one translated line, they imply something is about to get raped because the skin is smooth and in the very next line they are complaining a thread is "pervy" instead of rude. Single standards need not apply for troons when it comes to rape.


It's also really telling they're trying so hard to be hip and cool, and down with da Gen Z kidz when they're using modern lingo that didn't exist in the early 2000s.

Any partial truth the statement has is ruined by localizers own action. If the characters are shouting "Merry Christmas" a english word and you change it to "Happy holidays" there zero excuse other than you being a Godless bastard that cannot handle even the slightest of phrases that contradict the leftist's worldview. Localization is meant to bridge 2 languages together. Since there are words that cannot be accurately tranlasted into other languages, localizers gotta bridge that gap and make it make sense to the other language, that at their core is their job.

Then we got whatever the fuck is going on in this, admittedly weird looking game. Seeing how they turned basic bitch phrases that require no real change beyond a little touch to not make it sound boring to turning it into some political/tranny sperging.

This isnt the first or last time, but it really highlights how fucked the industry is that now localizers(translators with extra steps) are blatantly adding this shit. Cant fault the nippon niggas for not knowing shit since they tend to leave things up to the localizers and they only intervene when it is some egregious shit that clashes with their game.

That's the demand side solution of voting with your wallet. The supply side solution is getting studios to really WANT to enact TTD by hitting them with your decision not to give them your money. In this case the trannies overplayed their hand so badly that the people who actually wanted this game for whatever reason only had to express their discontent with the mess of a localization.
