So I just watched I believe season 4 ep... 5 or 6?

Goddamn do I feel bad for Tyrion. I realize he said some pretty hurtful things to his girlfriend, but it was for her own good. Seeing her outright lie about him and throw him to the dogs in the trial just made me really pissed at her.

But it felt awesome seeing him tell off everyone and then demanding a duel to decide his fate.

I thought he was a dickhead the moment he gave in to that God-bothering harpy and started killing people based on superstition.

Which was pretty much since the beginning, I guess. Davos was cooler, imo.

I have no clue as to who to root for at the moment. I was a Lannister fan up until the death of Tywin, but now that he's gone I can't support the Lannisters anymore, they're too pathetic. Daenerys is a a giant Mary Sue and I can't root for her, so I became a Stannis man by default, but after last episode's shit I can't support him either. I guess that I should be a Carcetti Baelish supporter now?

I also dislike what they did with Meryn Trant. It's not that I ever liked the character or anything, it's just that turning him into a pedo is so corny and was done solely in order to stress the point that he's evil, as if we didn't get it before.

Yeah, that bugged me too. You easily could've cut the scene down, or removed it entirely, without impacting the plot at all. "OH THIS CHARACTER IS A KID DIDDLER, HATE HIM" he's already a cunt, we get it.

It's also really hard to care about the Winterfell plot, not only because both Stannis and the Boltons are irredeemable at this point, but because it honestly doesn't matter anymore. Whoever wins, they're going to be assaulted by Littlefinger and the forces under the royal banner. It's not even the fact they killed Shireen that bothers me- it's the fact they killed her in a manner that completely undid character development.

I could believe it if it was Selyse and Melisandre, since they've been at best antagonistic and cold to the kid, but Stannis? C'mon, you've literally spent the last two years building up Stannis' awkward, but affectionate, relationship with his daughter. It makes no sense.

Doesn't help that the circumstances leading up to it- Ramsay somehow managing to destroy basically all of the weapons and reserves without being noticed and riding out without being noticed- is shitty writing.

This whole season, outside of S508 and a few scenes here and there, has easily been the worst. The pacing especially has gone to shit, and they seem content to wreck characterization. I'm hoping it's because they're trying to build up plot threads for S6 and onwards, and that the series will rebound in quality next year.

Also fuck 'em for cutting Young Griff, that would've made the Dany plot actually interesting.

When I saw Stannis burning his daughter, I saw someone ready to sacrifice his blood to be in a position to defeat the white walkers. Sacrificing his daughter to save hundreds. And having the honor to look at her when she dies by his fault, assuming entirely his actions.

This. I'm aware that show Stannis differs significantly from the book Stannis, but as someone who's only seen the show, what happened was consistent for me with the portrayal of Stannis as an increasingly desperate and driven leader who's willing to sacrifice everything dear to him.

For better or for worse, Stannis and Jon are the only leaders in the show who have any idea what's actually coming, and Stannis sacrificing Shireen felt like an appropriately twisted reflection of Jon allying with the Wildlings- they were both really desperate, unthinkable measures taken in the face of an impossible threat.

Also the Greek mythology allusion was cool.

I agree with just about all of your post expect for this part. Remember that Shireen was sacrificed in order to summon the forces of The Lord of Light. This black magic has shown itself to be very useful before (i.e the death of Renly Baratheon), and it might be just what it takes to defeat both the Boltons and Littlefinger.
 
Holy shit what a season. Everyone who is still alive is completely fucked except for maybe Tyrion.
 
Hoping Podrick and Brianne discreetly set something up for Sansa and Theon to jump into?
Also, Theon finally grew the pair he had cut off

Bookfags are laughing right now over Jon, probably. Got my hopes up for Benjen, though.


- I'm looking forward to next season's Meereen plot- Tyrion actually getting to run shit again is going to be fun, especially since that was the highlight of season two.
- A bit annoyed that Quaithe didn't show up in the Dany bit, but I doubt she'll show up in the show again at all.
- The Myrcella scene was kinda dumb, which is the problem with the entire Dorne plot in this season. Especially since Ellaria killed her in the most cliched way possible. I really fucking hope we don't see the Sand Snakes again next season, but I know better.
- I'm still a bit surprised they got Lena Headey to do the Walk of Shame. I like the make up for what we see of Ser Robert Strong, too- the Dawn of the Dead-ish, 'comic booky' vibe is neat.
- I don't believe Stannis or Theon or Sansa or Jon are dead, we're going to see some shit next year. I'm thinking the 'they axed Stoneheart so the Jon Snow revival is more surprising' thing is going to happen.


All in all, this episode was a lot better than most of this season was, and sets up the next one pretty strongly.

I really didn't like any of the Sand Snakes, none of the actresses were good. The line about "bad pussy" was the worst dirty talk ever, it made Emma Sulkowicz's dirty talk ("fuck me in the butt") sound like Shakespeare.

I still see some chance of Stannis being alive... but something tells me it's a safer bet to assume he's dead. With Theon and Sansa I see a greater chance of survival, it's somewhat more believable that they would survive such a fall than Stannis surviving Brienne's sword. But then again maybe Brienne was remorseful and decided to spare Stannis? If Jon actually resurrects it will be with Melisandre's black magic. Remember that rogue priest of the Lord of Light who managed to repeatedly resurrect his friend? I can see Melisandre somehow pulling the same trick, possibly doing it to Stannis as well (if he's indeed dead). Then again her black magic doesn't seem to have much of a promise lately. I've thought that the sacrifice of Shireen will end in a rerun of Renly's death or something even worse, but apparently it only inflicted damage on Stannis's army.
