Gamefaqs - An old gaming website that still exists somehow

There's a thread on CWC when the news broke. How did LUE react? Here are the highlights.

Bless your heart, perfusionman:

Talas weighs in and tries his very best (while getting most of it wrong):

Good question:

eternalrei posted a handful of other rambly posts that aren't really interesting, though this made me chuckle, you can just feel how he's struggling with the concept that maybe Jersh does have a sense of empathy:

Shut the fuck up, The Bard. (he didn't get in trouble, nor did anyone call him out for the post he self-quoted)

Strelok rages about incest laws, and no one calls him out:

TheKonamiMan is mad that people are pointing out the obvious:

A GameFAQs poster warning others about a place being like somewhere from the early 2000s is a serious case of the pot calling the kettle black:

Words on screens are too scary for these sad middle-aged men:

TheKonamiMan shows his impotent rage at Tucker Carlson (the segment covered the dangers of men declaring themselves as women to enter women's prisons, for obvious reasons):

The rest of the thread is either people explaining what's going on, reactions, and other boring posts. Full thread attached:

Imagine being such a social shut in that you're also a shut in from internet culture. That's fucking Gamefaqs in a nutshell right htere.

I remember back in 2013 to 2015 when Current Events would try to take credit for creating certain memes even though they were always like 3-6 months behind on everything.

I'm amazed "Kiwifarms" isn't auto-censored like "Encyclopedia Dramatica" used to be. Maybe "kiwifarms.net" is? I wouldn't be surprised if it's forbidden to link directly to Kiwifarms just like you used to get the mods on your ass for linking directly to 4chan.

I tested some out with the preview feature, and Kiwifarms.net doesn't seem to get you auto-marked. Though, some of the self-censorship in the error messages is funny, like it shows a hierarchy of unacceptable words:

>"fag" or anything similar

"gook" and "kike" actually get spelled out in the error message, but not "nigger":

1630707151768.png

1630706464535.png

"n-word" on its own doesn't get marked, though.

But these are ok:

I like how the recent Texas abortion thing has the Gamefags politics board sperging about "my body, my choice" AND "why anti-vaxxers should be put in prison" on the very same page.

@Pissmaster is there much crossover between the LUE old guard and the rest of the site? Like do the LUEsers (urbandictionary says that's their ethnonym?) post in the other forums as well, or do they prefer to stick to their cool darknet hangout?

It's a shame that forum isn't viewable by anyone under 40, but I appreciate da updates!

I really don't know, I only ever used the forums to any significant degree when I was a kid, though I don't think so. GameFAQs users always tended to huddle up in their own little boards and discuss whatever, no matter the board's topic.

Though it's pretty telling how LUE today is really not much different from other social boards easily accessible to the public, like Current Events. All of these severely autistic people are stunted and forever teenagers. It's an entire forum system full of Peter Pans.

Behold, the current thread list on CE:

Attached below is the whole first page of the "How old are you?" thread, but to not make our own GameFAQs thread a mile long, here's a list of the stated ages:

47
35
33
39
73
28
32
31
25

32

37
32
28
37
30
31
24
36

26
30
33
24

Add 'em up, divide by 30, and you get an average of 33.76, or born around November/December 1987. Sounds about right. Not yet middle age, but far too old to be posting threads like this:

This fag also registered in 2008 and has a smug quote in his profile:

They're also a bunch of mask cucks, of course:

This guy registered in 2000, holy shit. Get an avatar, you fag.

GameFAQs is exhausting to read, it's just milquetoast reddit where everyone's afraid of the eternally overbearing jannies. I guess that's what you get on a forum where every mod has always been a powermod, run by this guy:

At a glance I would assume the age range is 12-20, but this kinda makes sense. Maybe being in that same community and only that community for so long causes you to never really grow out of that teenage state of mind. The site has barely changed in over a decade.

Part of me is wondering why people with the minds of teenagers are making negative threads about Bernie Bros and waxing nostalgic for Hillary Clinton, but I guess maybe teens thought Hillary was cool back in 2002...?

And looking through the CE threads list is, in itself, a bit of a culture shock. Yes, there are threads (lots and LOTS of threads) about why you should never take your mask off, how many conservatives have died because of covid, and "based left-wing memes"... but there's also threads on killing pedos, upcoming South Park movies, and sexy girls. Not very woke of them.

Again, I'm guessing this is because teens in 2002 weren't woke, and being older millennial videogame shut-ins, the userbase has apparently grown up to be broke, Kimmel-watching, neoliberal cattle, instead of angry communist radicals. Which I suppose gets back to my theory that this community is an isolated Polynesian island - they've heard that Republicans are evil and Joe Rogan needs to be put in prison, but they haven't yet got the news that the WWE is barbaric and heterosexual coomershit is literally rape.

Also, Jesus fuck

The hottest thread on the Mario board is about covid, too.

My theory is that GameFAQs, much like Twitter, is inhabited by people who were raised by the television instead of a stable family unit.

That's why so many of them are faggots, troons, and seem to be unable to question the authority of whatever they see from corporate media aka their parental figures.

That's why while they're emotionally stunted at the age of 13 or so, they still have support Hillary Clinton and other Democrat boomer shit you would see on CNN. Also why they're so obsessed with Covid.

Yeah, I think you're on to something there. If you're around 33 or 34, there's a good chance your formative years were spent passively watching television, instead of actively shitposting on some terrible forum and/or getting groomed by weirdoes on a social media site.

A family member had a TV on this last weekend, tuned to MSNBC, and I was actually a little shocked by how relentlessly they were pushing covid - twenty minutes straight about how scared you should be, why it's normal to hate your family because of differing vaccine statuses, how all the kids today are skipping school and the dire consequences this will have on the moral fabric of America, etc. My takeaway from that experience was that the MSM's business model - fearmongering for views, advertisements for money, propaganda for grants - is unsustainable, and that I won't shed a tear when the party ends. But on the flip side, if I was watching that junk every day, and trusted it, then yeah, I think my worldview would be warped to the point we're seeing on Gamefaqs. I'd probably be wearing masks indoors and shitting up a Mario board with vax threads, too.

(don't get me wrong, I know that people like to sperg about covid and vaccines sometimes. Nothing wrong with that! But keep it to one or two threads on an otherwise healthy board, yeah? When half your website consists of users losing their shit because their mom hasn't got the jab yet, something needs to be done)

Anyway, sorry for the rant. Here's a few fun (non-covid) threads:

lol I almost forgot about that faggot Error. It's funny how the more and more his life got worse he was more willing to let being rude slide, as being rude and powertripping on GameFAQs was all he had.

Does he still randomly post "beep boop" and make topics complaining that people expect him to do his job as an entry level help desk representative?

Been replaying GTA 4 after the franchise became relevant again for the wrong reasons and I decided to look up some guides on how the fuck to fly a helicopter with PC controls (still struggling) and I came across this gem of a thread that was surprisingly not made in current year or previously current decade, the years when the gaming community and the internet as a whole seemed to become WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more political.

lol, it goes on for 22 pages https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/933036-grand-theft-auto-iv/42899335

Given all the tom clancy games and all the war games in general, don't you think there should be representation from the left as well? I get tired of playing as the "heroic" americans, slaying the evil south american/chinese/russian/whatever commies. They're just keeping it real.

Interesting thread, nevertheless. It's funny how the lefties there pretty much act the same way they do now, but they're just a hell of a lot less vicious and personal about it. It's also nice to see right-leaning viewpoints not just getting dogpiled and deleted.

Imagine being this based on GameFAQs and not getting in trouble. I'm pretty sure that'd get you banned in a heartbeat now.
