General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
after suisei being more successful than before without it and other streams like the <70db duck/pirate collab or luna's electone happening it will probably change over time, albeit slowly.
wouldn't be surprised if they start talking normally during member streams, would make it more "personal" as well, although some probably prefer it simply to make easier to stay "in character" like matsuri put it (take that as you will). over time most of them will probably accept they don't need to use it every time everywhere.

they also have couches for singing already, so they most likely hear about often enough to take care of it etc.
Only fries your chords if you manipulate your voice. I doubt most streamers have to deal with this issue when its just using their normal voice. Snuffy was pretty smart to quit with the generic kawaii uwu voice she had. Also her normal voice is way better.

A couple of them are having problems despite not using a character voice. Marine and Aki already talk using their normal voices and they're both having problems.
With Marine I think you can pretty much hear when she's destroying her vocal cords with raucous behaviour, ragged screams and shouting.

HAG LOVE
I don't really hate Ayame, but Ayame lazy and normie is too good a meme to passed up
To be fair I don't hate Matsuri, she just makes her be ridiculous and easy to poke fun at. Happy anniversary Shishirion!

STARTING!
- Open with "Happy Synthesizer". Minor case of Aloe Tragicfag in chat. Her singing won't be call among the best among Holo, but it sure is damn cute.
- First guest, Doom Doge. Singing "DANZEN! Futari Wa PreCure ver. Max Heart" from Pretty Cure.

- Third song, "Watashi, Idol Sengen" from HoneyWorks
- Second guest, Respawn Sheep. Singing "Tuning Love". Art is cute.

1628940460567.png
- Forth song, "Teikoku Shoujo". At this point I'm a bit surprise. I thought she'll go a variety skit route like Lamy, but this is a full concert at this point. Botan becoming Idoru?
- Third guest, Slut cat House Cat. Song is "Loser"
1628940947995.png
(wtf. Botan's western spy. Insta drop.)
- Sixth song, "Rumor". Never heard it before, but she's cute AF in this song.
- Seventh song, "Umi no Yuurei". Back to back solo with the last song.
- Goods. Standard stuff - Acrylic stand, towel kuu said scarf and I don't know enough moonrune to contest, keychain, postcard.
1628942224644.png
- Botan confirmed that the theme of this live is Idol. My Gaming Lion Can't Be This Cute and Seiso Idoru!
- Last song, "Yuurei Tokyo". Last anniversary live is Polka's, but tomorrow main Hololive channel have event related to Hololive Error, so Polka's live will be the day after tomorrow.
After concert is followed by Botan's first Original Song - "Lioness's Pride". I love the name already.

The dubstep is strong in this one. The mix and visual is good, but nothing ground breaking. Personally, it's amazing enough to see that Botan is going a singer route after all this time, and I hope to see more of what she'll do with it. Btw, I can't shake the feeling that Lamy's short animation and this Botan 3D model MV are a demonstration of MMD model Hololive put up on sale last week, which mean this two thing is fully sponsored by the agency I guess.

Holy shit I missed so much gold while I was asleep, taken me a good while to read everything. Cant believe I missed the based rabbit giving us a mention. Sucks for me being in a peasant time zone, then again it pays off for anything JP related on the weekend now.

Currently watching the Botan Live, glad @Diya is covering it, I want to be lazy today, maybe next time. Also I'm starting to notice Tuning Love is complete free real estate of a song as of late, everyone seems to be making a cover of it.

Ok maybe one, because it too funny not to post now. Watame is just the essence of fun. (Whey Me & Diya got the opposites)

My cute FPS Lion can be an Idol too. Even while squatting.
Huge props to whoever is her vocal teacher. Some of the high notes I've never expected to leave her vocal folds. And the fact that she somehow manages to keep relaxed through most of it too.

"Concert towel". Translator pls. It's a concert scarf.

Also, I fkn love her model for the fact that it actually looks like an adult.

Marine just did this
and first comment literally wrote what everybody thinks.

I'm desperately late, but I have finally watched the Unison video (I was quite busy this week and I left it for the weekend as a treat). It's different, it's exceptional, it cucked most of the other Holomem songs I've heard. My understanding of Japanese is quite poor (probably the worst of all people in this thread who released their nihongo powerlevel so far), but from I could understand, it's also a meaningful song: an emotional statement, but sung with unexpected firmness (fuck you animated avatar of a horny pirate for making me feel feels again). Okay, I'm overthinking silly animu stuff again, but Unison got me a bit emotional - I will listen to it again later and I will try to translate the lyrics (fortunately there are Japanese subs, as the song is quite fast) - I'm sure some sperg has already done it, but I want to do it myself.

tl;dr Unison slaps

Then came debut day, Cali was first and dropped the RIP song which proceeded to demolish everyone expectations.
I had no idea what to expect and I wasn't browsing any websites with vtuber discussion back then, so I wasn't exposed to any doomposting about HoloEN debut. And then the grim rapper dropped her song and I was hooked right away. I had this misconception that Calli will be the type of edgy goth girl and boy, was I mistaken. But the rap got me immediately interested in the whole group, which then casually proceeded to become the face of vtubing in the western world.

Despite the constant shitposting, they are capable of asking the important questions, like this one:

I've heard of this game mentioned here and there, but nobody's playing it, everyone seems to be changing it to something else before the stream starts. Probably the permission is a bitch to obtain and the copyright holder is a fag.

last three tweets on Artemis' account
Thank you, his opinion (?) about mahjong is so fucking cringe I actually got angry for a moment.

After 10 straight days of summer hardcore MC, Elite Miko dies to the dragon with a quarter bar left. Truly heartbreaking stuff.

On the bright side, Miko - Haachama GTA collab starting soon.

This feels like a throwback, I can't remember the last time Haachama played GTA since she accidentally showed titty on stream by not understanding what a lap dance was.
I don't know how to embed twitter videos lmao but this is still one of the all time best clips tbh

It turns out Calli's surprise karaoke guest is Milky Queen. IIRC DemonDice did a song or something with Milky Queen before..

EDIT: Yep.

EDIT 2: Calli says she looks up to Milky Queen, who was her introduction to vtubers. This could answer my question before about Calli's design. Maybe she chose a large-breasted model in imitation/tribute to Milky.

To change topics from the hugbox and numberfag a little. I think ~3 months ago someone had posted about a vtuber who goes by Alicegawa Inori
She'd gained a bunch of reddit whiteknight subscribers over a post that got popular, which of course didn't really translate to viewers. She had a bit of a breakdown on youtube:

Ended up looking into what's going on with her these days. It's an interesting case study for what happens when someone gets boosted without getting the opportunity to build up the dedicated audience gradually. Since then she seems to have gotten to trying to replicate that initial bump in popularity with lots of short clips. Despite her subscriber numbers being pretty good as far as Japanese indies go, her views seem to struggle hard. Given her trouble growing since then, looks like it just shows that sympathy subscribers seriously hurts growth and she's only just barely starting to recover

Makes me wonder how this sort of thing would apply to the phase connect vtubers, since so much of their audience is just from the attention here and on 4chan. Admittedly they're a bit different in that the interest is actually for their regular content rather than the vtuber hugbox circlejerking to feel like they're helping someone.

I was actually going to talk about this the other day (it was me who brought her up initially) but the website was getting wrangled at the time and I forgot.

Socialblade only counts in 100's when you exceed 10K, and 1000's when you exceed 100K. With that in mind, it makes the daily stats look like they're fluctuating a lot more than they probably are in reality. For Alice, she was at 14.6K for a WHILE, dropped to 14.5K, and is now seeing growth at 14.7K.

The website, however, will mark this as -100 subs if she dropped from 14,601 to 14,599, and +100 if she goes from 14,699 to 14,701. What you aren't seeing is the growth or loss on a daily basis, so it's difficult to gauge just where she's at.

THe fact of the matter is that asking a Holo clipper to promote an Indie to 'make her smile' is more akin to the phrase 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions', and we HAVE seen graduations of Japanese Indies who lost their EOP audience and lost the heart to carry on.

I at least respect that Alicegawa Iwori has had that breakdown, reflected, and is going again where others haven't. Maybe she'll get picked up like Shiraishi Yukino did (who had less subs, viewers, and even now doesn't exactly break the viewer count). I think her big problem is that she had unrealistic expectations of herself as the growth was happening, but her numbers aren't really 'bad' for an indie.

EDIT: Fascinatingly, she's actually at 15K. She gained 300 subs yesterday, and her daily video views is currently at 34K (she averages 1-3K). Her cover of KING hasn't gained many views since last I checked, so I wonder where this sudden burst of attention has come from?
