General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

I think one too many people knew about all of it for it to be an issue of incompetence, it seems way more likely to me that him and a few other higher-ups in the company embezzled all the money.
I just want to know how they convinced all these talents to join.
Was it because he was considered the "creator of twitch"? Or at least what came before it?

They were sold on "We just take merch cuts and only provide, you keep your IP and everything else." It's not really a sustainable business model but dollar signs cloud everything in their vision

Not only that, the business model was the pinnacle of idealism (keep everything you earn, total freedom!!!), and they seemingly funded some of the characters (rigging, branding, art) atleast until proven otherwise, since other companies ask for IP buyouts once they leave, and none of the initial "graduates" have said otherwise, so depending on the person that could be a sweet deal.
And lets face it, if Shylilly's testimony is accurate, i can see retarded enough women falling for the handshake promises, Shylilly is bitchy as shit when it comes to business, in a slightly admirable way

Dunno much about Nux, but he posted a 1+ hour vid on VS.
He frequently drops the high pitched screechy voice he usually does, so he is taking the Vshojo thing more seriously than usual. I've got the impression that something about this is hitting too close to home. He's still angry at Vshojo management for telling him he could post the video about the swatter without notifying the talents about it. Which is understandable.

Vshojo learned the hard way why the other corps lock down their characters as IP.
Its more that they didn't take a real cut of the profits, but I guess they're intertwined since a lot of the talents used them to get popular then left as soon as their contract ran out. But there's nothing to say they couldn't maintain a revolving door system doing it this way.

Made 11 million, was 2 million in the hole

Make it make sense, where's the money fat boy, we know you embezzled that shit.

I hope one the girls sues so theyre forced to open the books before they die
I think that we're going to find out it's a lot more than $2 mil. I think $2 mil was surmountable so long as it didn't have insane repayment terms (it may have had positively Yakuzian terms), this seems worse than that.

According to Clio, she still owns the Clio character.
There's no way Phase is going to take the Clio or marimari characters, but what it sounds like is that they retain ownership of the latest Vtuber model.

I know marimari got a new model right when she debuted as Phase, and I assume Clio did too. Retaining the rights to the new model - that you paid for as the Phase company - seems like a good balance between creating an incentive to stay and granting them the freedom to leave.

All the talents have to do is rollback to their previous model if they decide to bail.

I was watching a clip of Geega talking about some of the situation with them, and cut into the clip was a bit from Connor talking about those pillar ads Vshojo took out
1753448478146.webp
(timestamped from the Geega Clip)
Prices listed on the site Connor pulls up place it at 40 million yen per pillar to run adds on, or 200 million yen for the whole place.

If we low ball it and guess that the ads were only on the 4 pillars you can see them on in that photo. That comes out to about 800 thousand dollars. If they had them run in the whole place, and the photo just didn't capture it all in one shot, 1.3 Million dollars. And that's just if they only ran the adds for one period and didn't book them for an extended time.

Which is to say, they had that big initial investment, yes, but they weren't exactly spending frugally.

Looking forward to further NDA "breaking", since the company is now dissolved with a non-practicing lawyer (maybe he has a balldo as well). Also, if the COO really is/was Melody's boyfriend, that makes the talents crying about being called Neposhojo infinitely funnier :story: The weekend is definitely going to be interesting.
It would have been more explosive if they hired Nick Rekieta as their lawyer. You just know he would pay one of the talents to have sex with him.

There's something I want to voice that I'm not sure how to word.
While he definitely fucked up on a legal level in some places, the "VShojo has failed" statement is MUCH more introspective than equivalent 'responses' you get from people or companies under fire anywhere else. Usually when a company or a person fucks up, their response is some variation of
  • Other people made a mistake that affected us, but we did everything right (Ex: Sinder)
  • There may have been some minor growing pains, but overall, we are doing better than ever (Ex: Blizzard)
  • There is no problem, all the negative PR is lies and slander made up by racists and sexists who hate us because of how virtuous we are (ex: Ubisoft)
  • This thing you say is bad is actually a good thing and you are a bigot for implying otherwise (ex: Nick Rekieta)
It's always deny that anything went wrong, pretend the problem doesn't exist and attack anyone who says otherwise. And here's a statement that actually acknowledges that mistakes were made. It's a breath of fresh air and the fact nobody acknowledges that feels weird to me.
If this were anything other than vtubing, people would at least commend them for admitting that there's a problem.
