General GunTuber thread

Karl and Ian are both people I would never take tactical or combat advice from, he's just being a catty cunt towards a cheap rifle.
Agree, he's well read historian, he's got some experience and knowledge with engineering and machining, and he's got the charisma and clout to make himself accessible to all kinds of wondrous collections of weapons, which he can then demonstrate in detail, sometimes even fire, documenting all this on widely available video.

However, he's not in any way a grunt, and I'm no grunt either, but I find that there's good value in talking to seasoned veterans and hear their opinions on a weapon. Guys like Eugene Stoner would certainly have worthwhile things to say about his designs, but I think that since he never actually did tours of duty with said guns, patrolling endlessly and getting into heated firefights under conditions which may not have been ideal, he doesn't actually have the entire picture, lacking the appropriate perspective.

Ian, also lacking in perspective from combat veterans, defers to the authority he knows, it's because he is a bit of a snob, he knows the history of the guns, he knows the mechanical functions, more than most grunts do, therefore he assumes himself being more knowledgeable period.
My rule of thumb is that he's usually reliable on the academics, but anything he says on practical application is worth scrutinizing.

Tl;dr Fellow Montanans, we should secede from the union to own the libs.

People really are followers and are willing to ignore the myriad of issues and the mountains of information on how dangerous they are just so it can say Made in the USA on it.
I'm waiting for someone good to do it, like say, Ruger, I'm confident they could investment cast a decent AK receiver. They don't even have to do the entire rifle, just sell the receiver for companies and private builders to do the work themselves, Magnum Research buys their Blackhawk grip-frames to make their revolvers, there's already precedent.

The fact that "Gun Jesus" is never solicited for a consolation by a serious manufacturer like FN or H&K speaks for itself. He's just a gun collector that's well read and traveled. Him repeating the old wives tail like the M855 round was designed to penetrate Russian Helmets or M855A1 is an AP round when it's not classified as such like M995 (while scoffing at the round's inability to penetrate modern Russian armor plates) was when I checked out.

It might be lack of sleep, but the I couldn't stop laughing at this segment with the cigarettes in Paul's latest video.
It wouldn't be a Paul Harrell video if he didn't spend 20 minutes explaining his thought process, only for the conclusion to be 10 seconds long.

Out of curiosity, why do you think a manufacturer would consult with him on anything production-related? The guy has no background in manufacture besides kit-building and he's quite clear about it. He's a historian, and as such they contact him when they want him to, surprise surprise... check out their historical guns.

Ian is just a great marketing tool for these companies, and they know it. H&K wouldn't have commissioned the image that later became the Gun Jesus poster if that wasn't the case. They don't need him to do any sort of consulting, they have engineers to do the production work, and blue-haired millennials media managers to do the marketing work.

I'll own the DEF CON - Desert Brutality mix up. I should of relooked it up before using it as an example. That was DeviantOllam's doing and we're not talking about him. 100% my bad, I fucked up.

Concerning the T36. There is a way to get through to people and make a point without antagonizing them. Karl chose not to do that because as a public figure, he gets annoyed very easily and goes off on a tangent to own people in an argument. This is why I think Karl is detrimental. Karl could spend an afternoon reading Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People, implement what he learned, and this thread would be inactive since we would have nothing to talk about since his sperging would come to a screeching halt.

I've seen videos in the past with Karl and he doesn't strike me as that knowledgeable, he is just an enthusiastic hobbyist. He just doesn't make a living in the firearms industry, he reads a lot and he just has a lot of confidence when presenting what he has read. I think his arguments fall flat with forward assist because simply put, he has never been in stressful situations with it whether it its combat or training. When I see someone like Vickers talk about the need for FA, I'm more likely to listen to a career soldier since he has a lot of experience with firearms that have it to understand why it is needed. Not someone sitting on his computer reading old paperwork and then saying "wow, we don't need that; the US military is stupid for having it".

I don't know his exact role with WWSD; I do know Karl isn't an engineer. He can't flip open a material science text book and explain the relevant theory on how it works. WWSD is succeeding because there are smart enough people doing the engineering to make it work.

Concerning his outreach, I'll let the stats speak:

View attachment 2771399

It is almost as if his online behavior has isolated him from the rest of the community and his channel is going stagnant in outreach.

Anyways, thanks for being a good sport and engaging me. I can tell we not going to agree but it is ok.

I'll end this with a compliment, that was pretty cool that you stood up for yourself and reached out to SA concerning your ban. I think a lot of people wouldn't of bothered but you stuck to what you believed was right..
I don't know if those stats reflect anything so much as InRange being kinda niche to begin with. The mud tests and optic reviews are as close as the channel gets to "normie" guntuber content.

I brought up the chart because it showed a notable decrease in Karl’s viewership and a decrease in monthly subscribers. His outreach tapered off while he got in internet slap fights in comment sections.

I bring this up because one of the two guys behind it is literally the guest in the linked posdcast episode but the Art and War podcast is really good, They recently interviewed Garand Thumb.
I actually found Cl through Art and War. They cam up in my recommendations after watching AaW.
