I think calling it a thirty caliber was a good marketing move. Thirty caliber is a strong number in the American psyche.

.30 is a very popular rifle caliber but almost nonexistent as a pistol caliber. However the .32 have been a very popular self defense pistol caliber but barely exists as a rifle caliber.

It doesn't need to be popular in a pistol caliber, it's all about word association. We're talking marketing here, not logic or reason. The term "30 caliber" is ingrained in most people's psyche as being something that denotes strength and ruggedness.

I hate to bring something up from memory without a video to back it up, but I distinctly remember on one of the rambling videos on his own channel him talking about copyright claiming meme videos of his dad. The specific one he brought up was a video of hickok on a bike with an uzi. I wouldn't doubt if all the copyright claims sent from the hickok channel were solely the work of his son abusing the system.
