Maybe I'm just not used to GarandThamb's style, but how that's different from his usual on-screen awkwardness? The guy is stiffer than concrete at the best of times.
TL;DR the corpo Sig guy had no personality/rapport with GT and made it feel awkward AF despite GTs efforts
God, there is a lot of moments in this that are awkward as hell. And its not really GTs fault, its that the Sig guy just gives him nothing to play off of throughout the video. So, throughout GT will make what would be one of his usual jokes, the guy completely deadsticks him, and GT ends up having to throw a quick caveat to keep the thing moving.
Like the exchange:
"I want to go ahead and takes this like we always do, what the Marine Corps loves, tip to butt"
(Sig guy stays completely stonefaced, GT looks towards the crew to save the bit)
"We have a Marine here, so I have to harass him"
(Sig guy stays stonefaced, video awkwardly continues on)
It's just the awkwardness of someone hiring a comedian to perform for a small audience, and then no one in the audience laughing when the comedian tells the jokes. Seeing a guy make jokes and get totally sandbagged is always going to be awkward as fuck, even if the comedian is making good jokes and the audience is just being weird.
Also, random points where the Sigbot plows over GT doing a decent job directing the conversation to rattle off the Sig corpo copy:
Sig should have probably sent one of their marketing guys in for the video, since those are usually the 'personable' people in any corporate structure. Instead they sent in the ex-ranger guy Sig uses to give the M250 cred while shopping it around, that they've kinda beaten Sig corporate culture into. Like, you can feel the parts the guy has memorized to recite, pretty much.
Like, St. John deffo has the credentials:
But he just always feels like a guy that Sig hired because he checks the boxes of "decorated Ranger veteran" that they hand scripts of Sig corpo copy to memorize and recite:
It just feels really....artificial? Sterile? To me, at least. Like, if you interjected with a joke or a question in the middle, he'd be awkward as fuck about it. It doesn't even have to be some slimy marketing employee, it just would be nice if their main rep for this thing had some personality. It's not an impossible ask, since someone like Pat McNamara would check all the cred boxes to, but actually has an engaging personality (imo):
But Sig probably wouldn't hire someone like Pat, because Pat would have too much risk for them, on the chances he goes 'off script' and says something that hasn't been approved by Sig exec leadership and then signed off on by the marketing team. They're willing to lose the charisma factor to mitigate risk, which is very corporate of them.
So, yeah, TL;DR the Sig guy is awkward as hell and feels like a souless corpo drone in the video.
