This is why I'm not a fan of the Cyn-Tessa chimera's design,

From what I can tell it's somehow the design he's the most proud of if the chart gag from the epilogue is any indication considering it more or less implies the show was dogshit because he was too eager to get to the part where the design is revealed, which explains a fair amount in all honesty.

I have to agree. Liam's artistic ability shines when he's not doing anything related to monster girls. This is why I'm not a fan of the Cyn-Tessa chimera's design, to be honest; Liam clearly considered his dick first and the horror elements second. All Glitch needed to do was get a co-producer for MD so somebody could tard wrangle Liam.

I'm mixed towards Cyn-Tessa chimera's design. I'm a guy who loves me a good monster girl, so I do see the vision lol. It's a character great design all things considered.

The thing is, whenver I look at the zombie drone wearing a human child(?) as a skinsuit, I really can't see it as a host for an eldritch monster, the way she express herself makes me feel that Liam want us to think "Cyn-chan is so quirky and relatable uwu. She's so silly and cute rawwwwr xD".

And again, it's not like he's incapable of designing great horror elements, just look at Cyn's many appearences when she's not doing the turbo autismo dinosaur arms in both episodes.



But that's not what people think when they see this character, it's all about that silly girl appeal >:3



I might be strawmanning at this point, and also again, I do think it's a great design, It's just that when most people look at your robot-made horrors beyond comprenhension and don't find it remotely unnerving, then there's probably something wrong with it.

I've been following this Russian guy who's building a real-life worker drone (J, as seen in the episode 5 flashback) for quite a while now. Now she is capable of semi-independent movement and following voice commands.

Honestly, mad respect for this guy. Imagine having a deep knowledge about robotics that could rival many different expets, and rather than working as a well renowed specialist in the field, you chose to built a character from a children's cartoon in your basement.

I say this genuinely, there's nothing more wonderful than doing something for the love of the game rather than monetizing it.

I always felt like her Cyntessa design REALLY did not properly convey the fact that she's an eldritch robot corpse walking around wearing a child human corpse considering she had the exact same quirky mannerisms. Both of her designs have a far more "Look at how cute and quirky my OC is!" vibe over something you'd see as the main antagonist, which is probably why so much of her fanart just has her look like a girl with weird eyes and extra hands.

Well, since we're talking about Cyn I might as well say something too as the resident Murder Drones complainer I guess.
I still don't entirely get why she killed and skinned Tessa honestly. It felt really contrived and I feel like it wasn't earned if that makes any sense. Cyn's entire character is honestly kind of dumb, like again she does pretty abhorrent things, literally murdering and wearing the skin of the one human who showed her kindness is just one of those things.
I don't know man, it REALLY feels like Tessa was purely created to be the source of Cyn's skinsuit and literally nothing else. Her entire existence feels pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of the plotline.

That compounded with the fact that Cyn almost never acts like this evil robotic eldritch being who has basically genocided the human race instead as others have said acting all "UwU I'm so quirky!" really just doesn't make me like her as a villain. I'd honestly say she's probably one of the weakest written villains I've ever seen. Mostly because we never really get any reason why she's doing any of this other than just "lol I like to kill people." I'd be fine with it if they put in the effort to showcase that Cyn is this evil being that doesn't really care about anything besides destruction. Her weird favoritism towards N is also weird and never really explained either.

Her design admittedly isn't terrible in a vacuum, but applied to this specific character it IS terrible because it just adds to all the other issues Cyn's character already had. Basically you can REALLY tell Liam just designed her with his "UwU cute monstergirl fetish" instead of... I don't know... logic? Reason? Whatever term you want to use I suppose. But you can tell.

I have mixed feelings toward Cyn, because I like the design, powers, and personality, but not what it's actually trying to convey, because she feels a lot more like one of those OCs you see that have a big deal made of how evil and powerful they are, but are never shown actually acting evil or powerful so you just get silly memes that are just "lol, time to kill some more people, aren't I so silly uwu?". The whole centipede monster thing just feels like an effort to make her look more intimidating than the knockoffs of Glados and The Lich.

Also, I don't check the fandom at all, so I've very recently just found out that people insist Cyn and the Solver are meant to be different characters despite it basically being impossible to tell? What's the point? Why did she care about N, but kill and skin Tessa?
I never really got into MD because the characters came off as too memey and sociopathic, and its pilot struck me as the type of series to undercut all its interesting moments with "lol, that's crazy" and honestly I'm pretty sure I was right, especially with the 2 quieter more sympathetic characters being brutally murdered offscreen and forgotten about.

You explained it in a less autistic manner than I did. Yeah that's basically it. She just feels like a Deviantart OC made by a 12 year old who just says they're evil because they think it's funny and it's not much deeper than that.

That's my primary complaint about the Cyn-Tessa design. Based on what the show has been building up to, a design like that doesn't make sense; it looks too nice to be scary. The concept itself is pretty good actually, but the problem is that it is more girl than monster. I study at a medical university, and I have seen worse, both dead and alive. If you try to design something with body horror in mind, you have already failed if you cannot outdo medical gore.

I did think of one way to redesign Cyn-Tessa to make it more creepy. Technically, if we tried to shove a child-sized robot inside the body of a teenage girl, we would end up with quite a few broken bones, right? So why not have Cyn-Tessa have a bunch of broken bones visibly bulging under its skin as if they were displayed by the body of the drone? I mean, imagine its head with fractured skull pieces between the skin and the drone head. That wouldn't only look way more grotesque than what we got, but it would also imply the process of shoving a large robotic head inside a small human skull. You could probably also play around with the other organs, like having a beating heart right under the skin between fractured rib pieces or having parts of the skin and muscles torn apart and having them barely attached to the body. The current design looks like the Absolute Solver just neatly scooped out all the insides, leaving almost nothing but Tessa's skin in prime condition; my proposed redesign implies violently shoving a drone inside a teenage girl without being concerned about keeping her in one piece.

I believe the show did tell us that the Absolute Solver wants to consume the universe. The problem, as you said, is that the AS's personality doesn't reflect such ambitions. Toning down the quirkiness and giving it an extreme superiority complex would've worked a lot better, in my opinion.

I've begun to notice that despite their being no signs of a conflicting personality within Cyn any time you speak as if Cyn and the Solver are the same thing or that Cyn is evil or fucked up in some way people will immediately begin reeeing at you and then spouting their retarded headcanon about how Cyn used to be normal before the Solver even though the show presents no evidence of this. Like yes, okay the show does imply that Cyn made a deal with the solver and willingly allowed it inside her but we know literally jack and shit beyond that, we don't know any details, how much this...

This was proven by a nearly impossible-to-notice detail that could have been done a lot better. I think the Absolute Solver being a bodyless supernatural entity could explain why it can possess other drones that can use its powers; CYN just happened to be the first one to get possessed.

Yes, I am aware. But what I'm saying is there's no reason for it. It's even weirder when the things she says in Episode 5 makes it sound more like she's mad at the humans for treating the drones poorly, talking about how they cannot be thrown away anymore only to then begin genociding other drones anyway after humanity is fucked over.

I agree however, if you're going to make a villain that is this evil force of nature whose only desire is to consume you have to do it right or else... well, Cyn happens. I've cited the Flood from Halo before as a similar concept that I feel is done well. Liam could've taken some notes there on how to properly write a galaxy consuming eldritch horror that can also infect hosts.

Also the fact that it's more or less confirmed Cyn can directly control any infected drone when she wants or just straight up put them in zombie mode and tell them what to do like in Episode 5 makes it really, really fucking weird that Cyn never just commands N or V to just kill Uzi anyway before she hacks them in Episode 5. She had no problems doing it beforehand to force them to destroy the earth so not sure why she'd be hesitant to do it now. The writing is a mess.

Or fuck why did she never just make Uzi kill herself? She didn't really need her alive for... literally anything actually come to think of it.

Hey everyone, here's something I discovered.

You see, I was doing some research on other indie studios/creators, and I checked out one I hadn't looked at since last year. Have you heard of Lumi and the Great Big Galaxy? No? Well, this is supposed to be a spiritual successor to Wander Over Yonder, but you can tell Steven Universe is a big inspiration for it too.

Of course, it can't be a 2020s indie web show pilot if Michael Kovach isn't shoehorned in some way.





So why am I bringing this up? I just found out that the series creator, Evan B. "starteas", got a job at Glitch Productions: He became a writer for Modern SMG4.

If you recall my previous posts, Modern SMG4 is a series that suffered a terrible decline in quality since Luke Lerdwichagul stopped writing for it and it was handed off to a bunch of other people. And I hate Modern SMG4 so much that I avoided the newer episodes like the plague, so I haven't kept up with most of what the series has done since 2024. So, to my surprise, when I checked the official social media accounts of Lumi and the Great Big Galaxy, I was literally shocked. What has this series become? How does Modern SMG4 manage to get worse every year? What's going on in these people's minds to think this is good storytelling? What's wrong with Luke Lerdwichagul that he keeps approving shitty stories for his longest running work? Is this the type of writing Lumi and the Great Big Galaxy will have if the series continues?




Rule of thumb: If a post-2018 SMG4 episode is titled "Mario (insert predicate)", it's very likely to be bad.





Ah... forced weeaboo stuff, one of Modern SMG4's favorite things. Just a reminder, Luke and Kevin are very proud otakus; the 2019 Anime Arc and the mere existence of Saiko and Melony should be proof of that.





Lot of heart?!?!? Excuse me, have you even seen the classic episodes? Does this person know about the rape jokes and homophobic jokes in Classic SMG4? SMG4 has about as much heart as Drawn Together. I still can't believe there are people who find the forced emotional moments in Modern SMG4 touching.

Imagine how sad and pathetic it must be that your first exposure to SMG4 was Puzzlevision; that overrated special that introduced Jingling Keys: The Character (a.k.a. Mr. Puzzles), and for some reason, some people thought the show was getting better again (?), but they were in for a big surprise when the next wave of episodes after the special were absolute shit.





And.... he gave us another useless OC with no personality. He'll join the list of Modern SMG4's useless OCs alongside Jeeves, Ramensay, Fuego the water bottle, JubJub, Rob the scarecrow, Depresso, etc.

In this screenshot, you can also see Viclis, a.k.a. "No Context SMG4", one of the most intelligent, yet controversial, figures in the SMG4 fandom (brief context: he's one of the few major public figures in the SMG4 fandom who admits that the newer episodes are bad, but since Modern SMG4 stans hate criticism, he became disliked by the community. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, SMG3's VA hates him. You have to do something really bad for someone who works at Glitch to hate you).





He is one of the few people on Earth who finds "Leggy" genuinely funny.

Anyway, Glitch Productions wants you to waste money on a plushie based on forced running gag that was never funny to begin with.

What the fuck is this? Why are they trying to make SMG4 Hazbin Hotel? I knew that Modern SMG4 had an identity crisis, but pretending to be a Vivziepop show (minus the swearing) is a new low. Is Hazbin Hotel so groundbreaking among these people that they now want to imitate its electroswing music numbers?, and yes, I know that Luke and Kevin had crossed into Vivziepop territory before; Meggy's current VA, Elsie Lovelock, was also Charlie's singing voice in the Hazbin pilot, Michael Kovach began working for them by voicing Niles, a villain in the 2021 SMG4 videos, and the rest is history. And don't forget they invited Vivziepop herself to GlitchX 2023.

God, I hate the forced emotional moments, they're easily one of the things I hate most about Modern SMG4. I'll give them credit for using characters appropriate for the scene and not fucking Mario. I detest it when they make forced emotional moments with Mario, they always come across as out of character.

By the way, if you're wondering whether this guy is going to pull a Lackadaisy and have Glitch buy his show, it doesn't seem to be the case. He doesn't explain it very well, but it seems he left Glitch when he stopped writing for SMG4. He doesn't say it outright, but he seems to imply it, I'm not entirely sure.






As I mentioned before, he's OBSESSED with Mr. Puzzles, so much so that the Community tab of his YouTube channel is full of Mr. Puzzles fanart. It's almost as if this guy has a crush on Mr. Puzzles, something I wouldn't doubt considering he posted this.

As someone who lived through the rise and fall of SMG4, it saddens me greatly to see this series decline so much. It's very painful. It's like having a close childhood friend who got into drugs and you witnessed their downfall as it happened. If you showed these two images to someone who's never heard of SMG4, they wouldn't believe you said they were from the same series. And as I said in an older post, they really don't feel like the same series.




(Gotta give them credit they remembered Mr. Monitor's existence. It would have been a wasted opportunity if they didn't acknowledge Modern SMG4's other TV-headed guy who existed before Mr. Puzzles)

Digital Circus: Episode 7 is next week now, any predictions?, also Glitch posted a new teaser image in their channel of the exit door reappearing once again after being absent since the pilot episode.

Anyway I'm thinking several major new plot developments will happen in this episode, whatever was going on with Ribbit and Jax will be revealed to Pomni, most likely by Ragatha, Jax has been made purposefully absent from most of what's been revealed so far, which probably means he's the central character and main source of drama as usual, Caine has also not been shown that much too, this could be the episode where he finally breaks down, and I don't know what the reappearance of the exit door means.

Now that I think about it, what the hell was up with the exit door doing in the circus just appearing , leading to an "unfinished" map?, is that a thing that just happens that it just wasn't questioned ever again after?

Funnily enough, the castle wasn't originally gonna be destroyed at all. That one Colin Rodgers guy i mentioned before actually pitched an entire Arc before the whole "It's Gotta Be Perfect" Saga was made called "The Meme Lord Arc".

He even wrote down entire scripts and ideas for it.

And the fact that SMG4 isn't as popular as it used to be. SMG4 is no longer profitable for them, but that doesn't matter, Glitch can now survive financially without it. It's far less popular than their original productions. The fact that the Murder Drones pilot surpassed in views, after years, "Who Let the Chomp Out?", the most viewed SMG4 video of all time, makes it very clear.

And yes, SMG4 is losing popularity, Viclis/No Context SMG4 confirmed that the channel's views are on a decline.

Mr. Puzzles has become so overused that even characters like Saiko and Tari have become neglected. I found it ironic how many people I see on the SMG4 subreddit complaining that characters like fucking Whimpu no longer appear because of Mr. Puzzles, given that OCs like him replaced older characters like Toad, Yoshi, and the Teletubbies.





It's so surreal for me to see Melony, Melony the fucking watermelon anime girl, included on the list of neglected SMG4 characters, because at one point in the series, the show was VERY OBSESSED with her.





I want to talk more about this Viclis/No Context SMG4 guy. At first glance, this appears to be a normal gimmick account that posts out-of-context SMG4 clips, in fact, he allows submissions and will accept Modern SMG4 clips without any problem. But when you start looking more into No Context SMG4, you realize that he also uses this account to express his opinions on the current state of SMG4 and the fandom, and he tends to be biased towards Classic SMG4. Since Modern SMG4 fans have either never seen videos prior to Meggy or outright hate them, he has received a lot of haters over the years because of this.

If you are wondering: Why doesn't he create another account to express his opinions and leave the No Context SMG4 account as a out-of-context account? Why doesn't he rebrand the account so he can upload whatever he wants? Well, he doesn't give a shit about that. He knows he wouldn't get so much notoriety if it weren't a gimmick account.











Here are several screenshots of some of his tweets expressing his opinions about Modern SMG4 and the fandom (by the way, all these screenshots are pre-TADC, as I wanted to avoid seeing Mr. Puzzles. Mr. Puzzles and Digital Circus appeared around the same time).

This has aged a bit, because first, one of 2021 Meggy 's livestreams confirmed that Meggy is 19 years old (although her age is still ambiguous in the series' canon, but we can assume she is not underage) and second, Mario's three birthdays were decanonized in "SMG4 Origins".












This one is sad now, because I've seen so many people in recent years associate SMG4 with the waifus, and in many crossover fanarts, they choose them to represent SMG4 instead of Mario or SMG4 (the character). I mean, we've reached the point where a generic TV-headed Tumblr sexyman is the first thing that comes to mind for many people when they hear the name SMG4.










This has aged a bit too, because Axol was permanently killed in 2021 and Saiko became very underused in recent years.





This was written around the time Nintendo sued SML over the Mario plushies.









A little context here: Since Sunset Paradise and Meggy's livestreams were uploaded around the same time, people joked that Meggy had to be in Port Aurora and streaming at the same time. And while Sunset Paradise is canon, the canonicity of Meggy's livestreams remained ambiguous.










To think they ended up milking the "Mario Reacts To" series for a very long time.






It's surreal to look back and remember that there was a time when Murder Drones needed the obligatory association with SMG4 to be known. These days, most people who get into Murder Drones have no idea that SMG4 even exists.

The Modern SMG4 fandom is full of simps, perverts and gooners.







Looking back, it's hilarious how much they restricted SMG4 from swearing in the early 2020s, now that Gaslight District and Knights of Guinevere can literally say shit whenever they want. I guess Vivziepop gave them the confidence to swear again.

Context: Around April 2023, SML's creator Logan Thirtyacre was accused of grooming, and the SMG4 fandom celebrated that. The SMG4 and SML fandoms have always had a rivalry (don't ask me why, I don't know either, and I never understood why this rivalry exists).

He also used to reviews of SMG4 recent episodes. His reviews prior to 2020 are lost media, but thankfully he made PDFs of the ones after. However he stopped after WOTFI 2022, because he absolutely HATED it. He had the "brilliant" idea to do live reaction. I couldn't find the live reaction, but judging by the comments he made defending his position afterward, I'm guessing it wasn't very good.






Look at the dates, it's hasn't even been a month since SMG4 got redesigned. I know that's the joke but he really seems upset.

Reading this review in retrospect makes me imagine that this guy would be murdered by the Glitch fandom for the things he says about SMG4 and Glitch here if he said them today. He says this year's rap battle is the biggest ego-stroke he's ever seen from SMG4's channel, that its ends up being nothing but them flexing the SMG4 channel and hyping up how good and amazing it is, and it has wholesome people, which is something Glitch genuinely thinks and its not just some sarcastic statement. He states that the redesigns feel corporate, and that it's ironic how Glitch prides itself in being an indie studio and not like corporations, yet they create a character design that feels like it followed every rule in the "corporate mascot" playbook.

"Corporate" is the word I want to emphasize, because, as you know, I've said many times that people see Glitch as THE anti-corporate icon and the best indie animation studio ever. You won't believe what popped up in my YouTube recommendations today.
