Yup, that's the worst part. But people will call you a hater despite it.
If I actually hated the show 100% I would just say "lol, show bad." and move on.
I directly point out its flaws because that's constructive criticism. Even though there's a zero chance Liam will probably ever see it. But nobody learns anything if you never talk about what you did wrong.
Honestly I'm starting to wonder if the obvious audience of small children who are literally too young to understand good writing screaming about how fucking amazing and deep these one-dimensional non-characters are played a part in why this happened. I can't even say Liam might have just maliciously ignored criticism when the screaming children probably just drowned all of it out
From what I have seen, the core fanbase is mostly teenagers and/or young adults, naturally, i mean im literally in the latter group so-
Its a good time to segue into analyzing them.
They seem to be more focused by the pretty good visuals and spectacle of the whole thing, and the fact the characters are visually appealing (sexually), and the music, they all go on the most surface level aspects as a reason to like it.
That's disappointing, very few of these people actually go deeper than that.
I think this is just a larger symptom of the western animation( or actually just animation, manga/anime are also affected by this to some extent) zeitgeist, too many of them are too autistic about their favorite characters over actually analyzing the shows they come from, this leads to a lot of them, even ones with very questionable writing decisions to still be massively popular.
No seriously, it actually kind of frightens me seeing people being so attached to this show and being obsessed with certain characters because they're genuinely so shallow because the show barely ever explores them. I really hope it's all just kids but I'm already cynical so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bunch of retarded adults.
I would call out the fandom for doing this, and I will because sanitizing characters is fucking stupid, but...
...Liam did this himself, think, how many times did the main characters were explicitly shown on-screen to be doing extremely fucked up stuff (not to mention the implied stuff), but then to only be forgiven and even be shown in a comedic way and pretend like it wasn't REALLY all that bad?
He made his characters out to be psychopathic fucks, but because he was too irony-poisoned and couldn't commit to it (as usual), he wound up just excusing all of their heinous deeds, what an absolutely hare-brained retarded move.
The only reason anyone would like these characters is either you are delusional, and deliberately ignored their unsavory side, or you wanted to fuck them, or both.
