Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Long Live the King

I doubt this would be the case but I would not mind if the Godzilla vs. Kong film was the last entry in the MonsterVerse. The inevitable clash between these two iconic monsters would make a fitting finale. It could also be quite emotional if their fight leads to the death of both of them.

I wouldn't mind if Godzilla Vs. Kong is the end, but part of me is hoping that they've got a few aces up their sleeves for the future.

I mean, if Ultraman, Gamera, and/or Daimajin show up in this shit, I will lose my goddamn mind.

Did anyone get to see the 5 minute preview before Shazam? The footage leaks are out and holy shit this movie looks visually unbeFUCKINGlievable.

There is more screen time in the trailers than any of the Godzilla scenes from the 2014 film.

There's supposedly 20 minutes of footage for monster fights, as confirmed by the director. I don't know if that's not including regular monster screentime or what but the movie apparently clocks in at exactly two hours.

I think the reason why I'm confident in this film is that it feels like it was made with sincerity. Director Michael Dougherty, already an avid monster lover with Krampus and TrickrTreat, is supposedly a big Godzilla doof. He proved this when he correctly pointed out that Ghidorah shoots out gravity beams and not lightning. The man knows how to position shots and use color to evoke mood. So even if this film totally blows, I have a hunch that it will at least get to say that it came from a place of love.

...which is why I'm a bit concerned that Godzilla Vs. Kong is being directed by Adam Wingard--someone nowhere near as talented as Dougherty who recently made the shittiest Blair Witch remake in the world.

I heard Dougherty was involved in the rewriting of GvK.

Also they just released a couple of the ost.

Same. Dude has made all the right moves. I get the feeling he is his own target audience and he's making the Godzilla movie HE always wanted since HE was a kid. It just drips passion, care, and devotion. Even the human characters feel like they're going to be a big step up from 2014, which was a very cleverly directed movie that ultimately got a little precious about how DIRECTORAL it was.

The human cast seems to be mixing a lot of Showa and Heisei tropes. You got your kid (Because Godzilla, like Wu Tang, is for the children), you got some psychics, you got your international team of scientists. You got your Ken Watanabe, your Charles Dance, Sally Field, the little girl form that Netflix show thats like Twin Peaks for nostalgic pedophiles. Good cast. (Also just googled Sally Field ans she is somehow 72 but looks like it's been 20 years max since she was a total City of Boners in Smokey and the Bandit)

The soundtrack mixing all those classic themes, even the little fairy twins mothra choir song!

The BOC GODZILLA SONG? Sung by Serj Tankian??? With guitars by the guys from DEATHKLOK?

And that's without even getting to how it looks form trailers, which is vast, gradiose and working in size scales I'm not sure has ever been done in any film.

I have faith in Dougherty. He's done a good job communicating that absically "Hey y'all I love Godzilla like whoa and I just got a stupid fat amount of money to make a Godzilla movie so trust me! We're getting the god damn zilladest goddamn Godzilla we can make."

We've had a solid run from Godzilla 2014 to Kong to Shin Godzilla. godzilla 2014 is like 7-8/10 and it's the weakest of the three.

It's a goodzilla time to be a big monster fan, and as long as this lives up to at leats half the hype i'm experiencing I'll feel a lot better about being assaulted by cape movies, and whatever weak silent fart Disney scoots out to kill Star Wars can't bother me.

Because Sweet Goji is the coolest there is, and god I feel like a giddy child just thinking about this. Not like, a dumb baby being spoonfed shit, but a kid who's happy to see his big cool dinosaur monster friend.

go go godzilla

and just in case some folks didn't click on the link in the post above the post I just posted....

Is anyone else getting some Akira Soundtrack vibes from this?

I saw "Mothra's Song" on the official OST and I was sold.

Since pure moth waifu will probably fucking die, I wonder if we'll see larva in future movies and a grand return at some point. I'd love if we could get other solos like in the old days.

Early twitter reactions say it's spectacular. Here's holding out some hope. Critics were never kind to the Big G so take that with a grain of salt.

I always take early reactions with a grain of salt, but hopefully the positivity is indicative of the film we're in store for.

I know this trilogy is generally reviled but damn if this one didn't get me.
