Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Long Live the King

"So you'd want to make Godzilla our pet."

"No. We would be his."

A bit off topic but has anyone else got a Godzilla/Toho collection?

I have one of these fat bastards

It's great.. early Heisei suit was always my favorite. Which is probably why I never saw the 2014 movie and why this new one looks.. alright? For a hollywood CG thing anyway. Not gonna lie I'd rather they blow 150 mill (I dunno how.. find a way) of putting men in rubber suits so they can kick the shit out of each other as per the best of them. I know we're never really going back though. Do a lot of fans even like 2014 very much?

The MonsterArts figures are just incredible.

The Heisei Era is just my favorite Godzilla era all around, I think. Best Godzilla design, best storylines, etc. I recently re-watched Godzilla versus King Ghidorah (1991), and goddamn ... It's such a good movie.

The fanbase tends to be pretty lukewarm about the 2014 movie. For me personally, I think it's an OK movie with a fantastic ending ... But the movie could have easily been so much more. When Shin Godzilla came out in 2016, my positive feelings about the 2014 American movie faded a bit more (because of how fucking fantastic I thought Shin Godzilla was).

I'm excited about this movie coming out, though. I am a big fan of the director, and based on his social media pages, he is a GENUINE fan for this stuff. Plus, after seeing Krampus and how great the cinematography and sound editing were, I am 100x more excited for this film. This is a movie I cannot wait to experience with surround sound.

I liked 2014 Godzilla when Godzilla was actually onscreen. And the stuff with Bryan Cranston was solid before they made the stupid decision to kill him off. The Mutos were okay. And the opening credits and musical score were pretty good. Overall, the movie is kind of mixed bag for me. There are parts of it that I really like and parts that annoy me. I know the director of this upcoming movie listened to fan feedback and confirmed that Godzilla and the monsters will take center stage first and foremost onscreen. If that's the case, I think I'll appreciate the 2014 movie more for paving the way to this new film.

My favorite series of the franchise is definitely the Heisei era. Best version of Godzilla, best arcs and storylines, fave of the rubber suits. And it all leads up to an emotional finale in Godzilla vs. Destroyah, prob one of my top three faves of the entire series.

Shin Godzilla is good and I like the story, effects, and overall destruction but it's my least favorite of Godzilla portrayals in terms of his personality. I like my Godzilla grumpy, confrontational, stubborn, and prideful. Basically a pissed off badass that hates everyone and begrudgingly saves the world because he hates the idea of other monsters claiming it. Shin Goji is more like a zombified eel lumbering around. He's cool and all but I prefer the classic depiction of Big G.

Shin Godzilla was certainly a direct throw back to the 1954 original Godzilla, both a agents of mass destruction with little personality or intelligence. Which is one of the reasons I adore Shin Godzilla as it's a true modern tribute to the original.

I haven't seen a good Godzilla movie in a long ass time. I liked 2014 and I'm glad to see Legendary's back at it. Also is Shin Godzilla worth watching?

I'll admit I'm also pumped for this movie which is rare considering I don't really go out to see movies anymore.

I haven't been into kaiju movies for very long (like a lot of newcomers I was introduced to the franchise by the Godzilla NES creepypasta), but I've discovered that I'm becoming a huge fan. My favourite monster so far has to be Gigan - he's an awesome dinosaur/cyborg that kinda looks like a parrot at the same time complete with lasers and a buzz saw on his stomach. Sure he's portrayed as a bit of a coward in his first appearance but holy hell did he leave an impression on me.

Also is Shin Godzilla worth watching?

It's talky and politically-charged, but Hideaki Anno was a co-director and so his cinematography is extremely reminiscent of Evangelion. To me, his cinematography is hypnotizing so I have a lot of fun watching it for that alone. But even so, it's still fantastic, and the ending shot is very chilling. It's a freaky take on Godzilla that I whole-heartedly welcome. Also the soundtrack is boss, Shirou Sagisu is a god among man.

I want to get hyped, the trailers are great and ma bois Rodan and King Ghidorah's in it so thats a plus, but man the 2014 movie is boooooriiing.

Shin Godzilla was pretty dope and made Godzilla scary again like the old black and white movie. I guess the boring stamp could be placed here too but man its direction is solid and baby godzilla tearing shit up was great until he stepped on that family. Like a live action Evangelion at times during the action scenes.
