In general Ecchi would have been anyways since people like their T&A. But I never understood why people treat ecchi as a bad thing, it's not like a bad anime would become better with no fanservice. Or a good anime is brought down by fanservice.
Some people blame Ecchi (and Hentai as well, although that's another story altogether) for the current degenerate state of today that is Clown World. And even if Japan gotten nuked even harder to the point that Ecchi wouldn't exist, the degeneracy would have manifested elsewhere.
Going back to the topic at hand,
Forza Horizon, for all the success that it has in the open-world racing genre, also provided just as many detriments to the entire racing game genre as a whole. It, along with its sister Motorsport series and Gran Turismo, have all pushed for graphics and car physics being the focus, with gameplay being put on the back burner. Some wokeness is noticeable in FH5 (i.e. pronoun options, voice options, prosthetic limbs, and the player characters don't look that attractive), and Keira Harrison (who owns the Horizon festival in FH3 and 4) doesn't make an appearance, although in that case, it's mostly limited to the player character options. And the dialog in the game is cringy as hell, which will again be a trend in future racing games to come. The game also showers you too easily with cars, as I would prefer to have a nice happy medium between car showers in Forza Horizon, and the massive grindfests to get a car in Gran Turismo.
The focus on player character customization that FH introduced to racing games in 4, i.e. clothing, while I don't mind it, does also seem like it takes away some of the focus from the actual racing, i.e. victory emotes, which specifically I would not miss at all if they were to be removed in a future game. It would be nice to be able to customize clothing like how Gran Turismo allows you to create custom helmets and race suits.
Racing games have also become increasingly focused on Photo Modes, again seemingly while neglecting the actual racing gameplay. Gran Turismo even added a feature, Scapes, where you can take pictures of cars in various featured locations. The Crew 2 (I think) has a feature where you can rewind time in Photo Mode, to get the shot of the car in just the way you want, which is pretty impressive that they managed to add that feature. And FH5 added being able to take photos with your player character either in the driver seat of the car, or outside of the car, which again I don't mind, but it was an odd and random feature to add. It's gotten to the point that some people only play racing games, just to take photos.
And the open-world racing game genre has gotten so narrow, with Horizon's dominance, that new competitors would most likely flop if they tried, and the ones still remaining are just hanging on. Need for Speed had at least two recent okay games in Heat and Unbound, but that's after the massive amount of stinkers that they put out before them. The Crew also exists for PlayStation players, but TC1 will be shut down this year, and it being always-online means that you can't even play it after the servers shutdown. Motorfest turned out to be a decent game, given that it had a much lower budget than Forza Horizon, and the dialogue in the game was somehow less cringy than FH5's, and that's inspite of Sweet Baby being in charge of the writing. There is also the upcoming Test Drive Unlimited game, Solar Crown, but the severe lack of recent news, along with 2 years of delays (the release was pushed from 2022, to 2023, and now 2024), really makes it sound like the game is massive vaporware.
I would like to see how Kazunori Yamauchi and Polyphony Digital take on the open-world racing game genre, by making a Gran Turismo spin-off, and would give some real competition to Forza Horizon. The setting would absolutely hit all of the autistic marks that Kaz focuses on in his games, i.e. the cars themselves and the culture, photography of them, going to landmarks, and the campaign where you climb up from using shitboxes, to hypercars, that past GT games had. And since it would most likely to take place in Japan, that would finally answer the cries of weeb racing fans that want a game that takes place in GLORIOUS NIPPON! And maybe that would move a bit more PS5s for Sony, although with Sony CEO's statements about expanding to other platforms, maybe not, if this GT spin-off were to get a PC port.
