Goreans - Pulp Fantasy Sex Cult for Unwashed Fatties

After looking into this shit a little more, it's apparent that the central premise of the Gor novels, with a man from Earth being whisked away to another planet were he's stronger than everyone else because of Earth's higher gravity, is blatantly lifted from the John Carter of Mars novels by Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Eh, people ripping off that concept is hardly new. Part of Superman's inspiration was "John Carter of Mars" in reverse.

I used to play Shadowrun with this one dude, he's been on the Internet forever. He's had experience with Goreans since, go figure, they also like PnP, and what I know about them is this, coming from him.

  • They take that Master and Slave shit seriously. Slaves use a gimped way of chatting online that includes zero first person pronouns, typing in all lowercase with no punctuation, and sometimes (put parentheses, brackets, or whatever on their paragraphs to show they're collared or otherwise claimed.)
  • Some of the more delusional Gor 'masters' expect to be treated like masters even outside their corners of the internet, and demand respect wherever they surf. The internet, in the past, present, and future, typically does not humor them and this leads to sperg rage and the inevitable banning of the master.
  • Plenty of them don't even like the books or admit to growing beyond the books, but they still use Gorean practices and philosophy in their romantic and daily life.
  • There's a surprising amount of slaves. With most BDSM communities, it's all thirsty dominants, but, due to it's age, the Gorean community has driven out most of the thirst and has maintained a weirdly even gender ratio.
  • In an attempt to justify it, a lot of the more normal Goreans (the more delusional ones who get tattoos and brands and shit feel no need to justify it) say, 'Well, being a Gorean is just being true to yourself deep down!', an appeal to nature that basically says, 'Well, a lady can dominate, and a man can submit... But, more often than not, they're lying to themselves!'.
Honestly, I'm curious if being a Gorean still means 'being an avid fan of the Gor books as well as being a deviant', instead of just being 'straight maledom with an added fantasy flair'. I think if Goreans are still big into the 'traditions' of the Gor books, it'd be interesting to see how a male submissive and a female dominant who hold the 'rules of gor' to the letter would be treated.

The Other Side podcast had their own theory on why these kinds of people get this way. It's a variation of "jailhouse gay" (where if a guy is locked up in jail with no women, they'll start banging men). Except with these people, they've been so lacking in sexual contact that their tastes suddenly get more and more perverted the longer it goes on.

So this is like Buck Rogers but instead of going forward in time and eventually getting a reboot that looks like TRON: The Comic Book, you instead go back to ancient Pre-Sumerian times and get a lot of crappy erotic fanfiction.

It's all a Conan the Barbarian Frazetta knock-off. Anything related to pre-Sumerian times would be dumped for said crap erotic fanfiction.
