Goreans - Pulp Fantasy Sex Cult for Unwashed Fatties

Wait, if the books' setting is "sword and sorcery" fantasy, you'd think their diehards would simulate more than just the bizarre gender roles if they wanted to live the fantasy out. What would the fun be of being "Gorean" if there weren't monsters or aliens around to fight? You might as well role-play Lord of the Rings without invoking magic, orcs, or anything else from Middle Earth. It's an oddly incomplete form of escapism.
Considering that, Goreans could of had their fantasy be focused more in being like a Frazetta painting on Deathdealer. It would be more fun fighting a giant lizard or a group of cavemen as a barbarian than having creepy slave sex but the Goreans wouldn't care about anything but their own sexual slave fantasies.

If you find some dead links in your journeys across Gor, don't despair. If you run them through the Internet Archive, you'll find they're often there. And it's worth it to try this, because a lot of these pages are from an ancient and primordial era of the internet, back when people hadn't figured out how to take unflattering photos of themselves.

And on that note, behold the Masters of Gor.

So is the world of Gor some kinda brainfucked social experiment conducted by aliens?
The motives of the Priest-Kings are inscrutable to us mere mortals.

Serious answer: it's just an excuse for the author to have a setting for his fucked-up theories on the Biotruth of the Weaker Sex.

I think his fetishes are more important than his theories, which just justify the fetishes.

While this may sound unimaginative, I'd prefer to live in a modern, technological society with scientific medicine curing me from diseases that would have felled an iron-age man within days, technological agriculture and genetic engineering bringing me ample food, nuclear reactors supplying me with cheap electricity, aircraft to carry me all over the globe and a digital communication network allowing me to discuss lolcows with people from all over the world... and, of course, Women's Rights, LGBT and ethnic minority rights too.

Please allow me to sperg out a bit, but the Goreans have "Stabilization Serums".

They have developed what they call the Stabilization Serums, which prevent deterioration of cellular replacement activity. In other words, once the Serums have taken effect, the person no longer ages. The Serums provide no other benefits – persons who do not take care of their bodies can be and are corpulent, unhealthy, and subject to death from any number of other causes. Nor do persons who have had the Serums have any unnatural resistance to disease or injury. Because the main focus of Gorean medicine for centuries was development of the Serums, lesser illnesses were not studied as hard by Gorean Physicians. Therefore, people subject to them were quite likely to die of them, with the result that the population of Gor is highly resistant to disease. Plagues are known but are very rare: epidemics are almost unheard of. The Physicans of Gor have diagnostic and therapeutic technologies equal or superior to those of modern Terran doctors.

And the only reason I know this is because Something Awful did an article about Goreans.

And why is it that the people who are most into wearing skimpy barbarian / slave outfits are people no one would actually want to see in said outfits.

So they don't die of natural causes and constantly have unprotected hankypanky. How come their planet isn't completely overcrowded?

(I know I shouldn't invest so much cognitive energy into this...)
