Nothing wrong with those. The Wraith Spire is perfectly adequate for any 4- or 6-core Ryzen and the Wraith Prism can handle the 8-cores with even some light overclocking.
I had the Wraith Stealth and it's Intel levels of tiny.
amd_ryzen_wraith.jpg

I just installed a Noctua NH-D15 which is massive overkill but I had to consoom something and as long as they make new brackets for it I don't think I'll ever have to buy a new air cooler in my life, but I will because of consoom urges. Writing this and having a youtube video on the other screen and the CPU is 7 degrees celsius above ambient and the computer is on top of a radiator, in Scandinavian winter. With the stealth I idled at 25c above ambient.
It was easier to mount than the stock cooler as well. Now I just have to re-learn overclocking and voltages to justify buying it.

I built this computer around this time last year and before that the last one I built was a hot hot Core2Duo, after that I've only used Thinkpads and Dell/HP/Fujitsu desktops, and I have to say that it's super easy now. It wasn't necessarily hard back then but instructions were shitty, things could go up in smoke, information could be scarce if you were on the absolute newest shit all the time and everything was both flimsier and much sharper. Old front panel connectors can kiss my ass.

I would like some advice from someone who knows their stuff, since I cannot currently get a 5700XT for love nor money is it better to wait or get a 5600XT if available? I'm in no hurry and only play at 1080p but would like it to last a fair few years.

GPU market is fucked again due to miners so 3 year old cards are going for twice their MSRP.
Probably better off waiting a bit.

The GPU market is so completely and utterly fucked it is hysterical. You have 1080 Tis going for over 1k and you have 2080 Supers going for 1.5k-1.7k. Honestly, your best shot would be to join a discord and get notifications. It is actually easier to pick up the 3090s and the more expensive AMD ones because scalpers and bots don't typically go for those.

The exception to the GPU market is ebay, though you run the risk of buying a card from a former miner so the shelf life won't be long. For new GPUs? Forget it. You're going to be waiting until April at least. I cannot believe how insanely lucky I picked up my processor for $300 when the 5600Xs are going for almost double now. I did want to try and sell it and get a 5900X but I am so tired of playing the Discord and waiting games, I'll stick with the 5600X for now. I don't really need the extra cores for content creation and if I want to stream it should be fine.

Shit, really?

Scan tells me that my 3080 arrives this week. Assuming it works (if they sent me a card that needs RMA-ing I will quite possibly unironically cry), might be worth blasting my faithful Founders Edition 1080 Ti out with some canned air and a spot of isopropyl alcohol and sticking it on Greedbay.

Maybe he saw 1 go for that...it's much closer to $500 which is still a great price.

Last 150 sold cards are $500-$600 with some outliers on both sides. Good time to sell if you got a new card.

If you're going to buy a GPU today, I'd only go cheap used like RX570 to bide some time. Everything else is a ripoff now. Shit's just fucked.

I have a Scythe Fuma 2 cooler and it's silent. It's not as good for heavy overclocking like the very best air coolers, but for $60 it's nice. Breeze to install, also.

If cryptodicks only went for the absolute high-end it would be one thing, you and @Ginger Piglet would have to slum it with us plebs, but it's so completely fucked from top to bottom. AnOnimous wanted a graphics card that would cost $100 at the most and for that you get a box of crayons to draw shit yourself.

It must suck donkey dick in eastern europe where €100 can be a tidy sum. Putin should put money into designing cheap domestic slav-jank GPUs with buggy drivers that leaks memory and make everything you play into slav-jank.

It might be different on ebay, but new unopened ones are going for that. It is fucking absurd. Like who cares if they launch a new product line these days, they always seem impossible to fucking actually buy.

It's a Founders Edition (specifically, Scan's ex display model from 2017 which I lucked out on getting) so it's guaranteed to be well built. Has a blower cooler which gets the job done but is attractive for SFF users because it ejects the hot air out the back rather than dumping it into the case generally.

I'll wait until the 3080 is I. here, II. plumbed in, and III. confirmed working before I flog my old card. And I might do the latter as part of the old system which I still have and which would still get the job done for a 1440p or even 4K with the details lowered SFF gaming system (Ryzen 1600, 16GB DDR4-2966, GTX 1080 Ti, Asrock B350 board).

There's really no love lost between cryptofags and gamers:

That's why I don't really feel bad when this eventually craters.

Performance wise: the 5600xt will be perfectly fine for 1080p for years to come.

Price wise: I wouldn't spend more then msrp on one. Given the insane prices right now I'd wait for the market to cool off. If you can, find a rx 570 or 580 on eBay for cheap, sometimes they go for under $100.

Wow, y'all weren't kidding. People on eBay are bidding up towards $600 on used cards like my little Pulse 5700xt. Its almost tempting enough to break out my old lead brick of a Fury Nitro and make some money. I think I'll just hang tight and play games though, there's no telling when I might be able to reupgrade.

unless you want 1440p or 144fps there's no need anyway. you can play most stuff released these days on 1080p just fine, especially when you got a freesync monitor.

Tell me about it. I have two vega 64s and a RX 480. I'm very tempted to sell both the vega 64s, especially as they are going for near MSRP right now, and using that money to nab a 6800xt down the line.

1080 ti is still better than some of the Turing cards. Quick Q. Has anyone noticed if Nvidia went RTX 3050, or is it GTX? Would be suprised they would even bother with RT architecture in the budget range. The Tensor cores that enable DLSS would be amazing on low core count cards though, would make a massive difference in performance on the cards that don't have 10k+ CUDA cores.

Anyone else interested in seeing what AMD is planning with the chiplet GPU design? Will a single card with multiple chips connected by Infinity Fabric actually work, or will it desend into 295x2 again?

It wouldn't run in to the same headaches. Imagine splitting the screen into an upper portion and a lower portion and using screen space reflections. The object you want to reflect in a puddle on the bottom is partially on the top portion of the screen being rendered by another GPU and residing in its memory on the other side of a bus that have a fraction of the VRAMs bandwidth. Even if they could only run their chiplets using crummy split frame rendering it would probably be similar to what they did with the 360 except transparent to the user/programmer. Modern GPUs are geometry monsters so it wouldn't have the same performance penalty. And even if it doesn't scale perfectly for rasterization purposes it will probably work extremely well with raytracing. Maybe they're betting that it will take off soon.

Fun coincidence; Intel Xe GPU die layout popped up right after I posted.

Sounds an awful lot like chiplet design. Especially with three different archs on one... chip? Die? PCB? 10nm finfet, 7nm intel, 7 nm tscm.

I keep seeing all these articles about the performance levels of the rtx 3000 laptops at really smol power consumption levels

all I want is literally just one of those underclocked cards with a display output

nvidia pls
