Can't believe people are going to lap this shit up just because retards can't handle playing a game from 3 console generations back
This industry is in the state it's in because people have 0 standards for anything
Thankfully this comment hasn't aged very well. I'm sure drones will still buy this pile of shit but the general consensus seems to be negative

When even an Irish YouTuber starts talking about the games in a disappointing voice, that goes to show how badly R* botched this release. It's as if the entire video game industry decided to all shit the bed at once (even if they've already been doing it for a while), just to one-up each other.

I disagree with his take that the devs shouldn't be held at fault for this mess though, given how silly mistakes like including the entire game's source code happened.

I blame all three parties for the way this collection has turned out. Grove Street Games for being utterly incompetent (they earned my ire 7 years ago after horribly butchering San Andreas), Take Two for being a bunch of greedy pricks that probably didn't give them a sufficient budget or adequate development time, and Rockstar for allowing their legacy to be treated so poorly.

This is flat out one of the worst business moves I've ever seen. It'd be one thing if the remasters were just incompetently made, but they had to tear down the originals & harass the modding community too.

Harassing the modding community & purging the originals might've been tolerable if the definitive editions weren't reduced to Sonic 2006 levels of glitches & incompetency.

I'll never buy a Rockstar/Take Two/Grove Street Games/Games Workshop product ever again.

Why are modders fixing this game? Take Two bullied them so hard and now they're still obliged to fix the game that was meant to replace them? :stress:

If the Elder Scrolls modding community has taught me anything, it's that modders are some of the most exceptionally autistic individuals to exist.

And it runs so, so, so badly. See earlier in the thread for Digital Foundry’s analysis. Resolutions are so abysmally low, frame rates so unacceptably janky, that the game is basically totally unplayable on the vast majority of consoles. My favourite part was when they highlighted that there’s a performance and a fidelity mode for Series X. Some reflections and volumetric clouds are omitted in performance mode, and to get them back requires a 30 fps lock.

Fucking what? On a goddamn series X? Hell even Cyberpunk, broken as it is, looks and plays WAY better on a series x. This is probably the most unoptimized pile of steaming shit I’ve ever seen, doubly so from a AAA studio.

I think it's getting to the point where modders need to stand up against take-two and Strauss zelnick and keep making the mods even after being threatened cease and desist. They might have billions of dollars at the best lawyers money can buy but we can cause an outrage enough that can that could worth media attention. We could probably get it through their thick skulls that this is not how you treat the consumer by giving them something half-ass and expect people to eat it up.

This is the reason why people view capitalism as pure evil due to scumbags in the higher-ups using business strategies like this.

Modders ignoring a C&D isn't going to do anything but hurt them.

The modding community is still super niche within the GTA fanbse. Not nearly enough people will care for the outrage to do anything.

The best thing you can do to send a message is simply not play the game. Getting DE and/or playing it for free still shows them that there is interest in the game. It needs to be a total disengagement from the franchise going forward. This has been the same thing people should have been doing with GTA Online as well.

shit makes sense actually
And, unfortunately, it likely means the game will remain a steaming pile of shit, because ain’t nobody got time for a complete codebase rewrite.

Sounds like this project suffered from poor management from directors. I would bet that they suggested this “make old code run again with plugins” shit very early in development, but a competent project manager would have shitcanned this attempt when it became apparent that all this spaghetti code runs like dogshit. But nope, we get a Switch port that runs at basically 640x480 (probably the same resolution it ran at back on the PS2) and a completely bastardized regurgitation of the classic games.

The incompetence on display is absolutely staggering.

I assume reverse engineering the original games means having the source code accessible. I doubt GSG has access to the source code.

At best, they copied and pasted all of this together and made ... Well, this.
