Agreed on all your other points, but what prevents us from saying the same about Flycast, that needs no special fork for arcade emulation (triforce) or lower-end devices (Ishiiruka)?
Heck even Ishiiruka no longer supports older OSes or 32bit devices.
Fair. Same with the "GC is bitch expensive" part, I realized that the DC is also bitch expensive.
Well I'll just expand on my point about modding.
The GameCube never really got much homebrew compared with the others. If I ranked all the 6th gen consoles based on hackability and how much homebrew there is, i'd rank it as
1. Xbox
2. PS2
3. Dreamcast
4. GameCube
Xbox got a ton of stuff, media players, game piracy, homebrew software, the works.
Dreamcast mainly focused on piracy and homebrew, since unless you had a late model, you could stick any old CD in there and games that fit under it would run. Due to that, people could also burn discs with homebrewed games and applications.
PS2 didn't get much until way later, but hey it got some stuff, and by now, you actually have a lot of homebrew to play around with.
GameCube? Basically nothing except burned games with a modchip. Even then, you have to pray that your stack of Mini-DVDs aren't fucked or run the console without the top shell to use regular DVDs.
Personally I think that V with its countryside is really missing a second thematically different mid-sized city (Bakersfield?) and should have been laid out in a manner that allows for larger desert and forest biome 'blobs'. On the other hand, I do think that the prevalence of mountains is really a symptom of the game pushing the PS3-Xbox 360 console hardware while trying to max out graphic fidelity for the era.
I was pretty sure they were wanting to plan another desert place called Majestic County alongside Blaine County (multiple cut police voice lines prove this) so yeah I think they thought so too. My main issue with Vs map is that there's a literal fucking circle of road around it, which means that so much of the map just.... isn't used. There's been places in the map where some of my friends go "wait that's a place, or is that a new update?" and I respond with taking a screenshot of the exact same place on my PS3 copy of V.
Anyways, here's a few in-game photos I took in GTA V on PS3. I'll transfer a few of the others later.
