Half Life Alyx and Boneworks - The two VR games that dare to be different. Okay maybe just one, but still. AKA Floop’s shill thread.

Is VR the big gay?

I hope it's a hybrid of VR and non-VR. like Resident Evil 7 is. Those hybrid games tend to do better for VR than the games *built* for VR. The games built for it seem more like a gimmick that you spend $12 on, finish it in an hour, think how amazing it is and never pick it up again.
I will admit we’re still waiting for that killer app. Plenty of VR games show off a cool concept, then you go “where’s the rest of it?” Then the game goes “Sowwy we wan out of budget sad uwu. It was pretty cool though, wight?”
Beatsaber will live forever though.

Am I the only one who finds this more disappointing than exciting?

Nope, it's disappointing, VR is not in the cards for me, not only can I not afford something with such limited use, I'm also not moving my furniture around to stand up or walk around or whatever the game might want.

Hopefully it's like RE7, like Token Weaboo said.

I think over time, as games become longer, we’ll want to relax more, and we’ll see more seated play options.
I’m sorry for sucking boneworks’s dick more but come on look at this

This is peak monkey's paw shit right here.
For real. I absolutely LOVE the HL/Portal series so I'll probably end up playing this at some point but it being a VR game is a big let down for me. VR is just the new motion controls except it doesn't have Nintendo backing it so the games are mostly either glorified tech demos or ports of older games like Doom and Skyrim. At least with the Wii remote games still played basically the same, but occasionally you'd have to point-and-click or swipe instead of pressing a button, and in some cases it was more intuitive than a traditional control setup. Super Mario Galaxy would be much more difficult to play if you had to use a thumbstick to aim the cursor instead of the remote. VR on the other hand is basically just stereoscopic 3D + motion controls, which would be fine if you didn't have to wear an overpriced stupid-ass pair of goggles on your face and move your whole body around like your playing Wii Fit because tech developers have somehow gotten it into their heads that people want to turn their vidya cave into an aerobics center. Like seriously, I don't want to strap a facehugger on so I can play fucking Call of Duty, I don't care if it's ImMeRsIvE there has never been a time in my life when I said "you know what, I wish my TV was two inches from my face and I couldn't see or hear anything else around me." I don't think the people who design these things and send them to the Giant Bomb guys so they can squeeze their fat asses into these $800 mistakes and tell us how innovative it is actually understand the relationship most people have with technology. Neither I nor anyone I know wants to have one of these in their home because it's not a leap forward for video game technology, it's just an odd sidestep that will soon be relegated to the oddball enthusiast end of the techie field as it should be. I remember this same shit happening years ago with 3D, media companies were pushing that shit hard for years and it never took off because it had nothing to offer consumers besides an excuse to spend more money on movies and games that are overpriced to begin with. I have yet to see anything that convinces me VR isn't just history repeating itself once more and I doubt even a new Half-Life is going to do it for me.

but its cool

I really hope the rumours about it being a prequel are wrong.

Is anyone else expecting this to be a VR orange box? They are still working on 2 more games to be announced.

I'm expecting this to either be groundbreaking or a complete gimmick

Get some exercise fatty

When you put it like that it sounds fucking weird. But it really is immersive.

This is gonna be an experience that can’t be replicated with a mouse and keyboard, come on now.

You say that but with some clever keybindings anything is possible...

It may as well beat Hunt Down the Freeman since this is actually from Gaben and his company.

I can't help but get the feeling this bearded man is very salty at gamers not liking VR. Even with all the steps made forward in VR gaming, shit can still be like a gimmick at worst. Also he should realize: much as gaming is an expensive hobby, most people that buy shit that's say 200 bucks or more tend to save up, and I imagine more pc gamers saving up for a better GPU or CPU than buying a headset, especially if the game is for a VR headset that requires you to move around furniture.

"Why aren't you CONSOOMING products like I DID?"

I like Valve and all, but this sort of shillery just makes me suspect that it'd be nothing more than an "okay" gimmick that'd be forgotten within the decade.

EDIT: Also, >I get it's expensive but so is the rest of gaming
:story:

Okay, sperg. I'll just enjoy all this bargain-bin games I got for $5 while you waste your benjamins on these thousand dollars VR shit.

I haven't had hope in Valve since they made that dumb fucking card game. Not to mention that a large amount of people who made HL2 so great are no longer with the company. There's a few still standing, but that's about it. Unless this game comes with a VR blowjob attachment, I'm holding off any excitement.

Also, if it's a prequel revolving around Alyx, then great! ELI'S VOICE ACTOR LITERALLY GOT OLD AND DIED

beat saber is an exception and not the rule. People modify maps like a new aged guitar hero. Valve could do a bit better start with their VR escapades by giving us a VR attempt at Portal instead. Which would be hella fun, but would also make me fall off my bed like EVE: Valkyrie did- or give me vertigo.

Of course I'm not part of their creative staff. So if they wan't to make a whole new game with the intention of VR they can go ahead. My expectations on it being any good won't be high if that's going to be the case.
