For real. I absolutely LOVE the HL/Portal series so I'll probably end up playing this at some point but it being a VR game is a big let down for me. VR is just the new motion controls except it doesn't have Nintendo backing it so the games are mostly either glorified tech demos or ports of older games like Doom and Skyrim. At least with the Wii remote games still played basically the same, but occasionally you'd have to point-and-click or swipe instead of pressing a button, and in some cases it was more intuitive than a traditional control setup. Super Mario Galaxy would be much more difficult to play if you had to use a thumbstick to aim the cursor instead of the remote. VR on the other hand is basically just stereoscopic 3D + motion controls, which would be fine if you didn't have to wear an overpriced stupid-ass pair of goggles on your face and move your whole body around like your playing Wii Fit because tech developers have somehow gotten it into their heads that people want to turn their vidya cave into an aerobics center. Like seriously, I don't want to strap a facehugger on so I can play fucking Call of Duty, I don't care if it's ImMeRsIvE there has never been a time in my life when I said "you know what, I wish my TV was two inches from my face and I couldn't see or hear anything else around me." I don't think the people who design these things and send them to the Giant Bomb guys so they can squeeze their fat asses into these $800 mistakes and tell us how innovative it is actually understand the relationship most people have with technology. Neither I nor anyone I know wants to have one of these in their home because it's not a leap forward for video game technology, it's just an odd sidestep that will soon be relegated to the oddball enthusiast end of the techie field as it should be. I remember this same shit happening years ago with 3D, media companies were pushing that shit hard for years and it never took off because it had nothing to offer consumers besides an excuse to spend more money on movies and games that are overpriced to begin with. I have yet to see anything that convinces me VR isn't just history repeating itself once more and I doubt even a new Half-Life is going to do it for me.
