After playing through hl2 and all the episodes in celebration of the 20th anniversary, I have come to the conclusion that the gravity gun is really fun and usually the best weapon for almost all of your engagements. The fact that you could beat both the episodes using almost nothing but the gravity gun is a testament to the skill of the developers.

Their ability to intuitively train the player is something that really gets taken for granted. The method of tutorializing without removing the player from the narrative is something I sorely miss in a lot of more modern games.

All in all I had a great time playing through the games again, nevertheless Valve are a bunch of nigger-faggots for blueballing us for two decades and for bootstrapping Half-life: Alyx to expensive VR hardware.

The Gravity Gun is the sigma male's choice of weapon.

Its been "Maybe Next Year" for over twenty fucking years

I bought from a steam sale and I played the first couple of minutes and feels pretty HL ish but in the unreal engine (or at least I think its the U.E). Havent played to its entirety but its very clear that the atmosphere and tone is very HL2 inspired.
And again according to my brother it'll be another twenty. HL2 was 6 years after HL1, so for now by that logic were still 2 years away. That's the metric (cope) I'm going by anyways.

"Patience, brother!"

P.S. Is Borderlands any good? Handsome jack seems funny and TFTB is good from what I've heard. I refuse to touch anything past that point though.

Im going to give an honest quick "review" of the entries that "matter".

First of all, try to play these games with co-op, preferably friends, these games are built around that.

B1- The most bare bones and basic of the franchise tho I would be lying if there wasnt some charm to its simplicity. The plot is literally you getting a treasure. The DLCs expand on the lore of the setting a bit more (and are referenced surprisingly quite a lot in the future entries). Just dont come into this one expecting the best of what the series has to offer (tho its far from the worst)

B2- The "best" entry of the series and the series peaked here. Handsome Jack is still the most iconic anything of the series. This is where the series solidifies its "identity" for better and worse. The humor is very early 2010's, which can either be nostalgic or annoyingly dated. There are some legit good character development in it tho thats sadly not as appreciated, especially nowadays that it became "cool" to hate on this series (not undeservingly). The DLCs are all great. The playable characters all stand out and, again, play it with a friend that it will still be an unironically fun time to this day.

BTPS- More of the same from B2 but in space. I really think the humor started to show some "woke" cracks here tho it mild compared to what the series becomes. The playable leads are all at least still fun to follow and control like B2. If you are invested in H.J and want to see his rise, this game will keep you satisfied.

TFTB- Evidence that with competent writers, you can tell a good story in this universe. The jokes did age pretty well as they arent mostly relaying on references. I wont talk about the plot except that it is legit good and you should at least play it once. You dont NEED to play the other games but it does help.

Anything after this is dead on arrival. I guess you can play B3 for the gameplay and nothing else. Do not play New Tales from the Borderlands unless you want to put yourself in a cringe induced coma.

Nothing happened, big surprise
Valve can't count to three, when will you learn this?

Another day, another mod played. Dark Interval Part 2 released after being in development for like 6 years. It's really, REALLY good. Everything here is polished beyond belief and except for how long it took to come out you'd be surprised it was mainly worked on by 3 people. I don't know if I'd say its better than RTBR but its for sure on par and both succeed for different reasons. If you like the beta, play this mod. If you like half-life, play this mod. If you like shooters, play this mod.
I forgot to take some pictures of the borealis, so here's the new CitadelCremators are present and fightable, no sign of children however. You'll notice by the Hud that you don't have a suit. You actually don't get a suit for a good 1-2 hours before hand, instead having some unorthodox gameplay segments in place. City 17's industrial sector, powered by a vorticell.I'm assuming this was a replacement for the stenographers chasm.Abandoned hotel.Squatters.He's watching.Consul Plaza, with giant statue to match Breen's ego.Arcade entrance.Interior.Yes, you can play the minigames! While short its still very cool. There's also another game called versus.Equally as trippy as hackmanYou'll encounter some new passive xenians along the way.Helmetcels force their disgusting ideas unto me, unluckily for them I have the power of God and Blender on my side.Resurrected teleport.Yes, there is friendly fire! This npc wouldn't stop harassing me so I found out in a fun way. Even more, you can also kill Barney and Kleiner with next to no downsides!Every mod post-Alyx feels the need to have baby barnacles in them for some reason.Xen-infested canal. There are various newsstands around to help with world building. The vista of City 17 before leaving for the Wasteland. The Wasteland itself, yes this is all one map. It's also not even 1/3 of it.One of the new passive xenians, if you can get past the fleshy exterior they're actually kind of cute.Scrapland, present near the end of Part II.There are a couple dream-sequences in the game. possibly foreshadowing later events.
Not a screenshot, but some of the tracks in this mod are great.

finally playing through alyx, and holy shit the millennial writing is draining my willpower. they really should've stuck with a silent protagonist...
